Discovery ED-PRS 5-25x56: the BEST Budget Precision Optic
looking to pick one up? (USA and Canada)
www.cdnprecision.com/shop
Likely the best Budget precision optic, and especially for the Canadian market.
There has been a lot of competition in the last few years to come out with the best high value precision optics geared toward the entry level PRS or likely more the NRL22 community. and the discovery ED-PRS does exactly that
with the following features:
- 5-25X Magnification
- Over 30 MILS of elevation (my test unit has 35 mils)
- Zero stop
- Hoya FCD 100 Glass (ED glass)
this presents a great value, especially for Canadians: while in the USA it retails for approx. 500 USD (See link)
in Canada it retails for 560 CAD see link below:

Got my Discovery ED-PRS just over a week ago from cdnprecision. I just did my first prs 22lr match this weekend and I absolutely love the scope. I also texted them a question on shipping times and got a response in minutes. I really recommend the scope and cdnprecisions customer service is awesome. Only issue is just like he said, the scope rings are crazy high and so I had to buy some different ones.

Hi. Just a quick comment. After ordering the NEW Discovery PRS GEN II only 6 days ago, it showed up today, in perfect condition. Amazing. This may be the first one here in the USA. To show that Discovery listens to the customer reviews, the box is slightly smaller, due to them only sending 1 sunshade! Who needed 3? Also, they have added an ocular flip-up lens cover, in addition to the rubber disc everyone hates. All the rest of the accessories are there. As I mentioned, it has replaced the $800 Vortex and a quick look through the glass was just fantastic.

Got one of these based on this (and other) reviews. Scope is built like a tank, massive turrets and very nice reticle. Clicks are very tactile and audible. From a quick look only the Glass looks at least on par with the strike eagle 5-25x56, or better. Mounted but still need to shoot it... Looks to be excellent value

If you are looking at picking one up (for Canadian's and USA) you can find one on www.cdnprecision.com/product-page As mentioned this is my website, after Discovery sent me this sample model in Nov of 2022, I realized this would be an amazing push in the right direction for Canadian's. Rarely do we ever just see price differences with the exchange rate from the USA as they usually come with lots of other inflationary fees. but not today and not from me on this product. so if you want to support me and the channel and have an excellent optic with exceptional value consider picking one up. (also I verify the fit and finish on all the optics that leave my place) thanks! feel free to ask me any questions!
@EpikArms

also If you are near the Alexandria On area (halfway between Ottawa and Montreal) and want to have a look before you buy, you can come by in person and compare some of the competition to this optic before you buy. just message me on the cell number on the website.

Hi. I've been enjoying your channel for quite a while. I have a bunch of Vortex Vipers, a new Strike Eagle 5-25X56 etc. Also have 2 new Arken EP5s and this Discovery model. I feel the Arkens and the Discovery are better than the Vortex SE in spite of the SE being more than 2X the price. Today, I may have received the very first Discovery 5-40X56mm (35mm tube) scope in the USA. I bought it directly from the factory i n China. If you think the PRS is big, the 5-40X56 is its big bother! The package included the 3 sunshades, a set of rings, etc, just like the PRS model. The supplied rings seem to be equal in quality to my Arken rings, but may be too high for my taste. Luckily my box of spares provided a set of new Millet 35 mm low rings. Good thing, these are NOT cheap! I don't hunt and only target shoot on my private range, so size is NOT an issue for me. The parallax goes down to 25 yards also. I did a quick look through the scope at 40X and as expected, the eye box was tight. I'll never run it that high. Bottom line? I can't decide which of my 7 precision rifles is gonna get this bad boy, but I could NOT be happier!!!!! ron

Hi Apocalyptic, glad to hear! There aren't that many difference from the gen 1 to the gen2, the main being that they reduced the size of the parallax dial to a more normal size, although due to that the paralax is a bit stiffer. Other than that the changes are esthetic.

I really think you're better off spending just a little more for a Nightforce NX8 4-32x50 instead of a 5-20x50 Element Nexus. We already did an ($999 sale price and past recent sale price was $1099) Element Optics Nexus vs $1800 (sale price) Nightforce NX8 4-32x50, $616 (sale price on Amazon right now) Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27x50, $450 (recent sale price) Arken EP5 5-25x56 specifically at 5-20x and they all were either equal to if not better than the Element Nexus in turret tracking and feel and image quality. Another buddy tested this new $399.99 Discovery PTS ED 5-25x56 and it's clearer than the Nexus at 5-20x magnification and turrets felt better too. Resale value on the Element Nexus is extremely bad too. Another buddy had an extremely difficult time selling his Element Nexus and was lucky to sell his for half of retail cost.

keep in mind there's a Bias/perception of bias since I decided on selling them in Canada. then again I have code you can use I you buy from Arken. that said I find the fit and finish on the Arken EP% better, magnification/focus adjustment are just a cut above the Discovery (keep in mind i have examined 7 Discovery ED-PRS units and the fit and finish is very much consistent one to another) for the Arkens well ive only ever used the demo versions sent to me. the turrets on the discovery are very sharp and very audible its easy to skip over where you intended on going due to the resistance, the Discovery not so positive and audible but not as much resistance. (for turrets discovery) regarding glass quality and eyebox I would say discovery; i have the Arken ep5 and the discovery side by side for a few days outside trying to look and see wich one was superior optically, while it is close I would say the discovery has a noticeably more forgiving eyebox, while both have some chromatic aberration the discovery appears to have somewhat less. so theres that and theres company support Arken has a more established presence in the USA while Discovery is still working on it . For Canada its mostly Rangeviewsportsimporting every 3-4 months and they sell out quick, also I have no idea how arken is doing its warranty support in Canada. while with Discovery in Canada warranty wise they would ask for proof (pictures of the defect (or have people sent them to me to verify) and they would send a new one from china. hope that helps!

Got one of these a month ago and just noticed that the reticle isn’t centered in the scope. It’s close enough that it took me a while to notice it, but once it’s seen, it can’t be unseen. As I zoom in, the left of the reticle (at the 9 holdover mark) falls off of the field of view about two, full register marks before the right side does. Hopefully this is a one-time defect that the warranty will address.

What's the USA Discovery Optics contact info? I have had an issue with my totally garbage Discovery HD 5-30x56 that has absolutely the worst image quality from all of my high magnification scopes. It's like looking through waxed paper when set on high magnification 30x really no joke. Image quality starts to get bad past 20x it's totally unacceptable. I have the Discovery HD 4-20x50 and 5-25x50 and they're fantastic and how in the hell their more expensive HD 5-30x56 monstrosity is so unacceptably terrible? I compared all 3 Discovery HD scopes at only 20x and the most expensive 5-30x Discovery HD has the worst image quality at 20x. Bear on mind the much cheaper 4-20x50 HD was maxed out at 20x and was still crystal clear while the 5-30x at 20x was pretty awful. I used to rave about how good Discovery scopes were and own at least a dozen Discovery scopes of different models up until that last Discovery HD 5-30x I spent the most money on really soured me and quit recommending Discovery brand and switched to Vector Optics for budget friendly Chinese made scopes. It's been sitting for a couple of years since the glass is too terrible to use. I really pity everyone who owns the 5-30x56 Discovery HD.

Wow that is awful. Few questions: Can you forward me the conversation between you and the supplier. Also is the supplier a retailer or a Discovery employee themselves?
