Gotta love this guy, makes the best instructional videos out there. Still won't get me using backhand though hehe, just too sucky with it I can't do it. Every sport I've played(including golf for 17 years) has been with "forehand style" so backhand feels awkward and theres no power at all. Lucky to get 100 feet with backhand, double with fore while standing still.

I am a dominate forehand driver like Mr. Ellis. My backhand drives are terrible. Split fork grip and I get tons of spin. Average 430'. Best thing about forehand drives is that it doesnt take as much movement to get the disc out. I've been recently working on a forehand hyzer flip which looks fantastic when thrown low to the ground.

Mark Ellis,Nice Video...Thanx for the pointer on 9:30.On my forehand throw I usually throw it going left an it'll head right and when I thorw an release it,I let my right knee touch the ground,.That style of throw just gets me exhausted. All I wanted it to do is to go straight an flat...My game has improved.Farther thows an alot of birdies..Friends say "Where the hell did that come from?! :-) ...FROLFING!

Got to get back to Disc Golf, been too long. I have known Mark Ellis, back when we played Disc Golf weekly in the 1990s, at Kensington Metro Park in SE Michigan. I like Disc Golf better than geocaching. This is a good video.

Hey kjetle. I've only been playing for a couple month, but I'm forehand dominant, and I snap every time. Having the last minute snap will help the disc have more spin and stay stable longer. If you are having a problem with the disc constantly going over left, try not to roll your wrist over. Keeping the palm flat to the sky after release is key in keeping your directed path.

i disc forehand only. ive disced so much forehand that ive lost almost all my usual backhand talent. i love the forehand for distance, and backhand only for approach and putt.
@forehandturkey
@forehandturkey 13 лет назад
@reyno1fan619 Keep your wrist pointed up on the follow through. pull your fingers through the shot, a forehand is more in the fingers and less in the arm. if your throws are turning over, you are turning your wrist over too much on hard throws without relative strength wrist snap at the end. a disc golf won't turn as hard as an ultimate disc, if it does just get an ape or a boss. good luck turning those over.

This is some good info. I have been playing for a week now and I go with the forehand throw, I am horrible with the backhand throw. I will extend my arm to the back, then pull in bringing my elbow in close, then bring my forearm out and snap the wrist at the end. Doing it this way does cause a little pain but it is getting better. Im still going to experiment. Thanks for the info.

One thing I have learned from playing disc golf for awhile is that if you ask 20 people how to throw a disc drive or how to putt,you will get 20 different answers. I think you take all those answers take little bits and pieces from each and then work on the drive or putt that works best for you. whether it is exactly what they say or drive or putt of your own invention. Above all practice,practice,practice! and when your through with that....practice some more.

Usually, you'll need to play with a distance driver, a mid range disc and a putter. The putter is one that more resembles a "normal" frisbee that you would throw at the dog. Discs, are stated above, have sharp edges as shown in the video but the putter discs are more round edged. You really cannot play well with a big clumsy frisbee, it wont drive well and it wont get you much distance when it is needed, but it will serve well for putting.

i only put one finger under the disc. i get alot more distance like that . i can probley throw about 425 ft. with my side arm. im jus now figuring my backhand out. only been playing for a year now but disc golf is my life. it probley has saved my life cause the road i was on was a bad one but now i have the greatest game to turn to. oh yeah discraft has the best disc ever

@okamasphere u know that snapping a towel is a classic way that baseball pitchers work on there pitching? its just a very goot day to work on flickin your wrist
@spikesmth
@spikesmth 16 лет назад
Also, I notice the Backhand Dom (r-handers)step the right pivot foot BEHIND the left foot. The key to smooth sidearm is to step over & in FRONT of that left foot like a quarterback or pitcher keeping your weight forward and starting the snap from the hips thru the spine, shoulder, arm to fingertip.

@NintendoZest Yes a forearm is the same as a sidearm. It is also commonly called a flick, and I know some that call it a "rope" (not sure the meaning/origin of this).

@cpjackson79
@cpjackson79 14 лет назад
A good thing to think about, backhand or forehand: Try to feel the weight of the disc as you go to throw. If you don't relax your wrist and arm, you won't be able to. This idea is essential to turning your arm into a whip, which leads to snap. Practicing with understable discs will enhance you control, too. They'll want to turn over when you overpower them or throw them with any flutter. Sometimes, overstable discs mask bad habits.
@BlueDevi1s

I was thinking the same thing on 400 ft. being limited. Being close to 300 ft your first time out is really good. You should be able to improve the more you play by changing the flight path (slight annyhyzer) is great for most discs and perfecting your technique. I started off with drives around 250 a couple years ago and now can get around 350. Keep practicing though and you should see improvements!

@forehandturkey
@forehandturkey 13 лет назад
@NickDelaney123 Well, in Ultimate, it's more beneficial to have your left foot as a pivot, to reach out farther as a righty. But for the pull, it doesn't matter. I throw right handed, leading with left in both ultimate and disc golf. ultimate, i throw a forehand pull ~100 yards and disc golf around 500 feet. My throw is like swinging a bat as hard as i can with a wind up and an uppercut. just put a disc in your hand with a hard snap at the end.
@BeataDrumm
@BeataDrumm 9 лет назад
Mark - where you have elbow issues with bending too much, I have shoulder issues from keeping my arm straight and pulling back so much. My distance is suffering by changing to the bent elbow, but at least I can still get out there this season!
@blargy7283
@blargy7283 9 лет назад
BeataDrumm I'll say that for me, if my elbow hurts, it's because my timing was off between my arm and my body. I can feel it when my timing is off, my arm whips through awkwardly and it puts more pressure on my elbow and shoulder. I've done rounds of a mere 12 holes that lead to elbow pain, and long days of 54 holes with no pain at all. As far as I can tell, it's all in the timing of my swing and making sure my arm and body are moving together. This is just how my body works and reacts to being a forehand dominant player, I don't know if you experience the same thing.

technically, frisbee is a brand name, like band-aid and kleenex, that has been generally adopted as the common name for a product. the discs are discs, not frisbees. they are smaller, heavier, and harder to throw/control but will fly so much further than an ultimate disc.
@dvannooski
@dvannooski 10 лет назад
I'm a baseball player, and this is the shot that is missing from my disc golf game, because I'm so used to throwing a baseball, and swinging a bat right handed, and it causes my disc to wobble a lot, or turn over way too much, and fly way off track, or end up a roller, when i wasn't even trying to throw a roller.

Hey, i just started disc golf, and im having a hard time throwing forehand. I had some good one, but it only seems to come when i have a real snap in my wrist (pushing my wrist back before the throw), and as i seen in other videos your not suppose to do that. But if i don't do it, it just lean over to the left, and start a freaking roll. So saying all over i can't get it to be straight, and tips, or earlier experience?

No. I don't really fully understand what you're trying to say, but I'll explain it to you. Forehand - Hyzer: fades right, Anhyzer: fades left (opposite of hyzer; all there is to it) Backhand - Hyzer: fades left, Anhyzer: fades right See that wasn't hard was it? Hyzer just means the predictable fade on whatever throw style you throw the disc with.

400 ft. is limited? Damn! I just started today, only have about 90 minutes of playing time to my career, but I'd KILL for even 300 ft....Actually I may have gotten close to 300 feet today, but I don't think I'd be able to get 400 feet ever. The course near my house has a 427 foot hole and with my forehand throw I got within 150 feet of the hole, after 3 times through the course. How much improvement in distance did you guys see in your drives after the first few months or first year?
