Most people make it so complicated But you seriously made it simple to how to change the water 👍👍👍

I never even thought about something like a guard on the end of a siphon, I should probably get one. Turned round to talk to the wife while doing a waterchange and a Cory got his face stuck in the tube. Pipe to the drain is very crafty!

I am also a discus keeper, and I do not do water changes unless there is a major issue in the tank. I use the planted, deep substrate method. I have only done two water changes in the last 3 years.

i do 30% twice a week ,i like the hobby and maintenance side of fishkeeping ....i like doing things more than i enjoy watching the tank lol if i changed water once a month i would be bored stiff plus my ocd would be screming at me ....all my tanks are heavily stocked and very well filtered ,in a large tank with a few tiny fish you do have a lot of leeway
@Jackal799

Recently started using water lettuce in my sump. That combined with anoxic filtration has really improved my water quality. I still run a drip to keep minerals coming in but I couldn’t be happier with the results.

Are you changing with water straight from the tap? I keep a barrel, about 32 g, that I preheat and keep active with a pump, because sometimes our water can see chloramine spikes from the municipal water supply. When it's water change time, I fit a pipe onto to that activating pump to refill the tanks. Works great, and is really not much effort. 4 beautiful blues and turquoises in a 55g with tetras, corys and fat happy bristlenose

From the tap but through a HMA filter, which removes chlorine & chloramines 👍

It’s interesting to have another take on water changes. I’ve been doing scheduled water changes since my return to the hobby. If you have a stable tank which all inhabits are healthy then why change.....there is Ye old saying here I’m sure

@theflossingfisherman7925
@theflossingfisherman7925 Год назад
@@AquariumAdventures Why is that. I have always been led to believe that you cant use tap water. Or does this depend on the area you live in
@AquariumAdventures
@AquariumAdventures Год назад
@@theflossingfisherman7925 I use a HMA filter which removes chlorine, if I didn't have that I would use a water conditioner like seachem prime or similar. Other than that I don't do anything special. RO water is not needed to keep Discus - breeding, maybe, but not just to have a display tank.
@TikTokPCTech
@TikTokPCTech 2 года назад
In your video you mentioned a little about trace elements. Do you think Trace Elements by Seachem is necessary for a discus tank? Going to be starting up a discus tank and trying to get all the info I can. Thank you for your time and great vids.
@AquariumAdventures
@AquariumAdventures 2 года назад
This is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string answer' but it really all depends on your existing water. Products like 'trace elements' in my mind are mostly for people who use RO water, then re-mineralise. If you have horrible water and need to use RO, then re-min products are absolutely required and very good. If you aren't using RO, I think they would cause more problems than solutions.

I have a discus with cloudy eye who sight is not good. I have been doing 25% water changes and using Melafix pond at 1mm per 10 gallons. I have 6 large discus in a 150 gallon tank. So far after 14 days I am seeing no real improvement. Water perimeters are okay . Help needed. Is it possible to insert a photo on this sight?
@dipenr6766
@dipenr6766 2 года назад
Great another video. Do you put your water directly into the tank from the tap and dechlorinate, or do you keep it in a bucket and dechlorinate, then put it after a few days? Do you think the dechlorinate machine is better? Thank you.

Just wondering about your set up, do you refill with plain tap water + a 'prime' type conditioner, or do you use an HMA filter for this tank?

I do 99% biological filtration with the only water change being filter maintenance so a 10 gallon water change per 2 weeks on a 65 gal. Have lost 2 fish in 2 years both were box store buys.
@MrSkeedle
@MrSkeedle 3 года назад
personally, i believe, you can tell when you need to test your tank, not when something is wrong. an experienced keeper can identify when their tank is different, eg fish behaviour etc etc. that will lead you to knowing you need to test. also another note. i have a page from aquatic science, which talks about nitrate and how they are not so important to worry about. basically they have been proven to be nowhere near as an issue as we may have previously thought as fish keepers. drop a comment if you want the link :) its very useful lots of pages about proper science behind fish. facts not peoples opinions like the hobby is full of haha.
