G10 ranks higher in all durability areas, including tensile strength, compressive strength, and flexural strength. Even though micarta and G10 are both resin-based composites, G10’s glass properties give it an advantage over the cloth properties of micarta. I recently had a custom canvas micarta scale break under minimal use on my TOPS TIBO.

@Dutch Bushcraft Knives do make an updated video on knife handles!

Talking about handles melting, if your knife is getting that hot your gonna be losing its temper! I’m more worried about the blade itself losing hardness then a handle repair 😂

It's very easy to clean matte micarta. I've had no problems with that or sanitary issues.

I am about to buy my first knife and was between wood or Micarta. You are right, the wood looks very vintage and classy, but better to got with canvas Micarta. Thanks for answering the question I had that many other videos couldn't.

What about bone and carbon fiber?
@shotgunlobotomies2352
@shotgunlobotomies2352 5 лет назад
Dane Ison well carbon fiber knife scales really only exist because some beginer knife makers or buyers will jump at its name but black micarta looks very similar arguably better Bone is generally reserved for custom knifes and custom knives using bone Usually are not bush craft knifes because your more limited with what you can do artistically but I’m so glad he didn’t mention parachord handles at that point just stop go home find another hobby

@@shotgunlobotomies2352 why you think paracord handles are a bad option?
@Sugardaddy501

I do not care about scratches on wood; its a tool not a pretty toy.
@shotgunlobotomies2352
@shotgunlobotomies2352 5 лет назад
Then why bother with wood get a g10 handle or micarta
@francor2263
@francor2263 6 месяцев назад
Well, if you prefer being an efficient tool rather than a "toy" get G10, more durable, efficient, lightweight and grippy.

I'm looking in getting a bark river bravo 1.25 in S35VN or CPM 3V. If you can have a choice in the best wooden handle or any handle material, what would you go with?
@DutchBushcraftKnives
@DutchBushcraftKnives 7 лет назад
I personally don't go with the fancy handles these days. The fancy handles are the most fragile most of the time. For the bravo 1.25 I would choose something that would survive it to hell and back. Black G10/linen micarta and CPM-3V. I just like 3v better than s35vn but both are great steels.

Dutch Bushcraft Knives would you say that the elder burl handles are fragile? I was looking at the gold and green one!

Dutch Bushcraft Knives just bought it in black linen micarta! Thanks!
@DutchBushcraftKnives
@DutchBushcraftKnives 7 лет назад
They are not that fragile but the wood will chip if you drop the knife on stone. Also water can get into the little cracks between the burls making the handle more prone to cracking. Overall the bark river handles are great and made with care but wood is still fragile to the elements.

Hey, what's your opinion on the arctic lizard handles from Bark River? They are some form of acrylic. For a knife used in varying hard use conditions and will get wet and cold. Want something with good grip but can also take everyday life, I know Bark River aren't know for great grip finishes.

Do you get any hotspots from prolonged carving with the F1 or F1 Pro?
@DutchBushcraftKnives
@DutchBushcraftKnives 8 лет назад
I can't say anything about prolonged use with the f1 pro yet. I never used it more than 1 hour straight. The regular f1 never gave me any hotspots so I would say the f1 pro shouldn't give any hotspots as well. The metal fingerguard is very well polished so it shouldn't be an issue.

My wood handle is really oily, so my hand always gets wet whenever I use the knife
@paulie4x1

Say Heah M&M,, Even though the Canvas Micarta has a better grip when it gets wet, because of its microscopic nature,, I still like my G-10 better because it's very similarly made as the Canvas Micarta but with Fiberglass, so IMHO it's stronger. Yeah, a bit heavier, But that doesn't bother me at all. Infact ALL my Busse Combat Knives that I use are non coated and with Black G-10. Handles. I only have a few Wood Handle Knives. I have a piece of art made by John Bradley his World's Finest Camp Knife that he specifically made for me in Desert Ironwood, It's Simply TiT's, Beautiful. I also have a Oak Handle Puma Eiche Wolf, a Handmade knife made in Spain. Then my Stromeng's my KS-9 is the same knife Lars Munson used when he crossed Canada, my KS-5 a 5" Leuku in Stainless 12c27, and my Bhuku STAK also in the 12c27, all three have Bitch Handles. I also have a Vintage Mora Military Knife with Birch and my Mora Forest Exclusive #277 Handmade with a Hardwood Handle, one of my Fav's Neck Knives. Yeah, It's a small stable. But your right they are Purdy.,,.p
