Thank you ladies!! This is a blessing to me. I have family that suffered during the early days of the Saints. I know they suffered much. Their example and courage has been an inspiration for me in my life. My life hasn't been easy, but I know who I can look to strengthen my faith. I love my Savior for his example and sacrifice. This makes me feel guilty about not keeping a better journal for my posterity.

The part I find disturbing about Helen’s journal is when she talked about women wanting to see an angel, so they got together and fasted, but the babies that were there were possessed by demons. Then Bishop Whitney said it would have worked had they killed on of the babies. Then the babies never recovered, so one of the moms ended up sacrificing one of the babies. 😢 so sad and satanic! So I understand listening to the women and trying to get to know them. We have to consider that they’re in the middle of nowhere and through Brigham’s made up D&C 132, women are threatened with destruction if they don’t accept polygamy. So we have to consider the religious abuse that happened and the fact that they had trauma bonding. Why can’t we trust Joseph for what he said? That he was innocent of any claims that he was practicing polygamy. That he excommunicated men for abusing women with polygamy, and sued people over it and canonized D&C 101 (the original not current) to make it clear how against polygamy the church was. Then if we’re going to pay attention to the women’s what about Emma who said that they were innocent of the evil, very, very late rumors (with motive to want to gain possession of the temple lot) rumors that Joseph and Emma were evil.

Thank you for sharing this interview. It has some wonderful information and perspective. While I am going to be contacting them about this, I would like to share some important historical and sociological context. It is very important to know that the idea that there were minors/teenagers involved in polygamy is completely incorrect. Like all age categories, adolescence is a social construct that was not developed until the early 1900's. There were two age categories at this time. There was childhood and adulthood; the age of majority ( age that a person is viewed by society and the law as an adult) was physical maturity (puberty) This means that Helen, at 14, was an adult in addition to all the other great things about her.

Can someone tell me how can "plural marriage" be validated/justified when not then not now there's a legislation that allows such a practice. And if polygamy was "divinely restored" why then there's no records that the early christians under the new covenant ( Heb.chapters 9 and 10) never practiced polygamy. Hellen was only 14. Can a child conscientiously/willingly take such a big step in life like getting married?

This is the final dispensation of the fullness of times. The restoration included all keys and the restoring of all principles. Doctrine and Covenants 132 goes into the laws of Eternal Marriage and it also goes over the laws and bounds of plural marriage. Now I noticed that you danced around the polygamy in the Bible which multiple prophets practiced. The answers are in the scriptures.

Legality of a religious practice is not really a sound criteria for determining truth. For instance, in China, it's actually illegal to preach the Gospel of Jesus. So missionary work, which is essential in Christianity is illegal in China and other countries but that doesn't change the commands of God to carry the gospel to everyone. There's quite ample evidence for polygamy in the old testament, which makes sense since it covers thousands of years of time. The new testament is much less a history of the people and religious practice as it is a testament of Christ. It's time span is pretty short. My question to you would be, since god seems to ordain polygamy in the old testament among some of his best prophets, if there was a mention of it in the new testament, would you follow it? For example, there is a mention in the new testament about baptism for dead. In fact, the practice of baptism for the dead was used as evidence for the fact that people will actually be resurrected, otherwise baptism for the dead is a pointless practice. And yet, Bible believing christians deny the need for baptism for the dead as revealed in the bother the Bible and the restoration by Joseph Smith. So....even if the new testament joined the old testament in showing gods positive attitude towards "divinely authorized" polygamous relationships, would you even believe it? People often talk about Abraham, David and Solomon as exceptions to God's laws of marriage and that God simply turned a blind eye to it. They willfully ignore in 2 Samuel where the prophet speaking on behalf of God says he gave David his wives and would have given him more if it had been too little. They invent in their own minds a character of a God who makes mistakes and changes his mind on things as time goes on. That's the only way to rationalize those things away without confronting the reality of his attitude towards polygamy. The restoration of polygamy was commanded to fulfill the restitution of all things. Do we know everything there is to know about it? Nope.

This is a topic I wish I understood better. My first wife died, and I love her a lot, then I was remarried and sealed again, so now I am sealed to 2 wives. The Book Of Mormon says flat out that God prefers monogamy but then all through the history of Israel is full of multiple wives, as well as the early days of the restored church. Now I am sealed to both, and I cannot conceive of eternity without either of them. But NO ONE is willing to talk about this now days, and I just want to understand it. I am currently praying to God for clarity, so I know it will come, but this topic has taken on a new meaning to me.

As someone who is also very passionate about the role of women, and is an active LDS woman who loves the Church, I wonder if you are willing to consider if marriage between one man and one woman is actually God’s law, without exception? For the last many decades, we church members have attempted to defend the doctrine of polygamy because our ancestors said it was of God. I think we have relied far, FAR too much on these testimonies. I know they believed it, Helen Mar Kimball included. But their testimonies do not prove Truth. They also believed it was essential for exaltation, and the highest law of the celestial kingdom, but our Church now explicitly teaches differently. I think we must be willing to look-without fear that we will lose the Church and all its blessings-into whether polygamy itself is of God. I recently published an essay, “An Enemy Hath Done This: the Seed and Weeds of Polygamy” and I would love for you to consider this perspective, or at least show me where my understanding is incorrect. I very much admire your efforts to defend the faith.

The other thought on this wonderful effort to elevate women’s voices is that, to me, it makes sense to include Emma’s voice, as she was the woman ordained to expound scripture and exhort the church. Helen Mar Kimball and other women weren’t, so why would we elevate their voices above Emma’s? Emma always condemned polygamy and denied that it was part of the restored gospel.

You realize that each plural marriage was performed between one man and one woman, right? The "plural marriage" sealing ceremony was not a group marriage but one-at-a-time; at its height, the previously wed wives would've been present to show their support or consent-not to join the new couple at the altar.
@gwendolynwyne
@gwendolynwyne Год назад
@@mattctr Yes I get that some men believed they could work around the monogamous command given to Adam and Eve, Noah and his wife, and Noah’s monogamously married sons and their respective wives. I know that some men thought that when Christ said “twain” it meant they could be “twain+twain+twain+twain (without end).” I fully believe men persuaded themselves that “the law” Christ gave to the Church in 1831, where He commanded individual men to “love thy wife with all thy heart, and shalt cleave unto her and none else”-incredibly, men somehow persuaded themselves that Christ must not have meant that… I know the justifications men have given for polygamy. Those justifications don’t hold up to the law of God in scripture. Our Church believes in absolute, divine truth, truth which does not change. The likelihood that marriage is this changeable thing seems far, far less likely than the likelihood that we are no better than the children of Israel, who sometimes were righteous, but sometimes followed idols to their sorrow and destruction.

Jacob: tricked into polygamy, super upset about it because he had been taught the correct law of marriage by monogamous parents. Did not intentionally abandon the covenant through polygamous marriage like his brother Esau. Covenant language alert: when Jacob becomes Israel, he only has children with his covenant wife, Rachel. When Rachel dies giving birth to Benjamin, Israel has no further children. It is entirely possible for covenant Israel to have been monogamous based on the scriptural record. God? I am sorry that you are implying that the only way Mary could have possibly become pregnant is by consummation with God the Father. We humans have a long way to go before godly omniscience and omnipotence, and yet we know how to use technology to impregnate a woman without her having sex with the man. 22:00 i’m sorry but you’re very wrong on this. an example of “free will” would be going down to the deli and picking ham or turkey on your sub, or choosing between a chocolate or vanilla ice cream cone. Helen was placed in an arranged marriage done by her father Heber C Kimball to ultimately seal the two families through the marriage. Joseph also told Helen that the marriage would guarantee the exaltation of her entire lineage so long as they stay faithful. and this all happened when she was very young as we all know. the amount of pressure she had on her not only from Joseph and her father, but mentally imagining possibly an infinite amount of intelligences being granted a state of Godhood suggests that she didn’t have total free will in this situation. According to LDS belief, the fate of literal souls teetered on her decision. So i’m curious as to why you say she had free will in this choice?
@elizabethvidrine7936
@elizabethvidrine7936 Год назад
In the LDS belief there are a lot of things that have eternal consequences, but we have the free agency to make our own decisions. You're saying because someone has a certain theological belief, that strips away the individual's free will somehow. It's like saying people don't have the free will to choose to be baptised or not because in LDS theology baptism is necessary for salvation and there could be negative eternal consequences if you won't repent and be baptised. Certainly the theological beliefs of an individual affect what decision someone will make, but that doesn't take away their freedom to make decisions for themselves. In early church history there were plenty of women who didn't accept marriage proposals from the 12 or even Joseph himself if I'm not mistaken. Clearly they could choose what they wanted to do. Clearly they had free will.
@jc72outdoors

@@elizabethvidrine7936 Helen has as much free will as most 8 year Olds facing baptism. When I was 8 I was told how proud my family was for making the choice to be baptized. Honestly the choice wasn't mine. It was expected and I followed because I trusted my parents and the system in place. If I had said no I would have faced some uncomfortable consequences for an 8 year old with my family and even my friends in the ward. So I did as I was instructed to do. Never giving any thought to saying no. I think the same could be said for Helen. Although her circumstanc was obviously much worse. She faced pressure from her father and Joseph. How is that free will? So many people have followed along blindly in all kinds of groups using so called free will. Not just Mormonism. Other groups are much harsher. Warren Jeff's group for example. Free will is a tricky subject. It should be available without the fear of family consequences if you say no. Pressure from family and ward members is a strong motivation to tow the line.

@JC72 Outdoors Considering Helen's own writings and interpretation, which is about all the details that we have, it seems to be that she herself considered it a decision she made freely. This includes what she said after years of experience and retrospective to draw upon. Of course, we could have a philosophical argument about what is truly "free" will, but no matter how the cookie crumbles, there will always be one side or the other enticing and encouraging and "pressuring" us in one way or the other. To zcut the semantics the way you're doing, you're implying that we don't have free will until we have all the facts, all the information, and the problem with that is that we never will have all the facts, not until the second coming, or possibly later. Having said all that, to say Helen had no free will is, in my mind, drawing ourselves into a corner. If she didn't, then we really need to reevaluate what free will actually is.

You can’t understand how sex brings a husband and wife together emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, not just physically , and not just to bring children into the world. Heavenly Father makes it very clear in Jacob (BofM) that the feelings and chastity of women are sacred and important to Him, that polygamy isn’t the normal way of doing marriage, but the exception to the norm, to be practiced only when the need arises. I’ve had people attack me with insults, because I am Lds. One thing they bring up is plural marriage. I’ll tell them that there are a lot of biblical prophets that had many wives. Does that mean the Bible is false? They don’t reply after that. I do know the principle of polygamy is not well known or understood, but I have a feeling it is for the after life, when our earthly mind has the veil lifted and ego, emotions and sex drives are out of the way

@@hollayevladimiroff131 are you trying to say only the Old Testament is trustworthy? We should disregard anything in the New Testament if it doesn’t repeat what the Old Testament says? Is it possible that the principle of polygamy is righteous if used righteously? It has been painted with a very corrupted brush, many using it for sexual gratification. I think after death when our bodies are purified of the fall, or natural man, the principle of polygamy is used somehow. It’s just my belief. Personally I don’t think it’s necessary nowadays, but right after Noah’s Ark I can see how it was needed for repopulation. Perhaps it’s a tool and is pulled from the shelf by the lord when needed. Maybe it will return during the thousand years of peace after the wicked are destroyed? We will see.

When it comes to plural marriage (as well as everything else that's been altered) we really need to stop putting other people's testimonies BEFORE the words of Joseph Smith himself. Joseph Smith very adamantly stated that he never taught, lived or taught anyone else to live plural marriage-not in secret, not in public-EVER. He denied every single accusation placed against him constantly and yet we just don't seem to care in this church because other people say "Oh no he was lying."??? How can we really say that we believe in and honor the prophet Joseph Smith as an honest man and a true prophet and then treat his words on this subject like they're nothing compared to what others say? This is one of the most hypocritical things we do in this church. Also, difference in culture and laws or not, it never was and never will be ok for a 30+ year old man to marry a 14 year old girl. Just because it was acceptable by law back then does NOT mean that it was right or ok at all.

One way we know Hannah is teaching the truth is by people attacking her with false accusations. A member was a guest on another Utube show that wrote a book Hannah has covered, and I made sure she got credit. Someone attacked Hannah with a false statement. I went to cut and paste, so to speak, to prove they lied, and of course got interrupted in my efforts to defend her. Which I plan on correcting. On the subject of polygamy. We are incredible as spirits. Job records that we sang and shouted for joy at the laying of the foundations of the earth, Jeremiah was ordained and sanctified a prophet as a spirit. We fought a war as spirits. The rich man suffered as a spirit, while Lazarus was comforted in Abraham's bosom as a spirit. We can see, hear, travel, love, hate, repent, of some things, forgive. Christ created heaven and earth as a spirit. The Bible teaches that everyone's body of flesh and bones will be resurrected and immortal. Why? We are so awesome as spirits, why would we even want or need a body? We would have to be able to do something with a body that we cannot do as spirits only. That something is eat, drink and copulalte. We cannot do those things as just a spirit. Considering the ability to eat and drink is not an ability worthy of a mortal test, in otherwords, God could have transitioned us strait from spirits to immortals if we only had the ability to eat and drink as immortals. It is our ability to copulalte that requires a mortal test. The very reason for an immortal body is to be unified for eternity with an eternal companion of the opposite sex. Adam and Eve had sexual organs. There will be immortal men and women during the Millennial reign of Christ with sexual organs, like Adam and Eve. Did God need to make our bodies with sexual organs to create bodies for His spirit children? No. He created Adam and Eve without childbirth. God is giving us the opportunity to be like Him, a righteous parent of spirit children on worlds without number, worlds without end. Will he give us an immortal body that has sexual organs, like His, that has the power He has, that cannot be killed to a person who has not repented of all sins related to the law of chastity? No! A Celestial body is an immortal body that has sexual organs. A Terrestrial or Telestial body is an immortal body that has no sexual organs. Male and female is an eternal identity, not created. There is an opposite to everything. We are begotten sons and daughters of God, but we were male and female intelligences before that. Joseph Smith taught that intelligent spirit is not created, otherwise who created God? So, through free agency, will more women or will more men live the law of chastity in mortally? If you have to question the answer to that you are not paying attention to life. But to give you statistics, 25 percent of married men cheat whereas 15 percent of married women cheat. Because there will be more women than men in the Celestial kingdom there will be polygamy. Does that mean all marriages will be polygamy marriages? I don't know. What I do know is far more people throughout history will earn a Celestial body that were not members of the Church than who were in mortality.

You must use critical thinking to see this through before I move on to sexual organs; else, you risk being caught up in an illusion. There is no other God; there is only one, first and foremost. You choose not to acknowledge this as reality. It is your belief that Joseph Smith is a god, and that any man can become a god by rising to the highest rank in the temple. That's where the rites of Freemasonry originated. The belief that there are numerous gods and that anyone can become their own god was instilled in all members by Joseph Smith. Despite being in opposition to D&C and PoGP, BOM is true. A man can become a god, but the BOM makes no reference of this; in contrast, the D&C makes note of this possibility. This, then, is the point of extreme delusion. The Mormons are conditioned to accept both beliefs in spite of their inconsistencies, thus it goes without saying that they will never be able to see that layer of deception. The conviction that any man can become a god is the third and most important red flag for Joseph Smith. His repeated visits to God yielded no resolution until much later in adulthood, which is the second cautionary tale. His assistance in advancing the Mormon faith came from Freemasonry. An additional warning sign is the Golden Plates, which are nonexistent as God has taken them inexplicably. Though none of the old manuscripts that were used to construct the Bible were taken by God, they are still held by the Vatican. The concept that Native Americans may have had the Golden Plates and were killed for them is one of the theories regarding the origins of the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith is credited with making the Mormon faith seem extraordinarily real. The Freemasons gained possession of it and utilized it as a platform to develop the Mormon church. Ultimately, if you spell Lucifer backwards, you'll get Reficul. Reficul is Latin for "refuel" or "recycle." Though an extremely strong angel, Lucifer is far from God. In order to enter the Garden of Eve, which he was not allowed to enter, he transformed into a serpent. After entering, he tempted Eve. Next came Adam. God no longer provided for them after they disobeyed him. Lucifer recycled feces by splicing DNA and inserting anus to digest and defecate. Adam and Eve's penis and vagina were also implanted by him so they may have sex and be lustful and contaminate all future generations. They covered themselves in shame as a result of being shocked to discover they had privates. A potent tool for turning away from God is lust. We didn't inherit the rectum, anus, penis, or vagina from him. Why do you suppose God made a woman from one of Adam's ribs? Sex was nonexistent until the serpent entered the scene. There isn't a bathroom in heaven. Avoid using tampons. Absent digestive organs. a lack of sexual organs. Absent sexual relations. And definitely not any lust. Love is only flesh. Merely earthly flesh exists; our heavenly bodies function very differently from earthly flesh here on Earth.

When you seek answers from the Book of Mormon instead of the Bible, God can't help you because you have turned your back on Him. Therefore this leaves the door open for Satan (II Corinthians 11:14-15) to step into your life with a false christ or prophet showing you signs and wonders to lead you away from the real Jesus of the Bible who is God the Son 2nd person of the Trinity. God Himself warns us about this in: MATTHEW 24: 23-24 "Then if anyone says to you, Look, here is the Christ! or There! do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect..." Mormons teach and believe that their jesus is the brother of Satan, which contradicts what God says in His Bible that Jesus is God the Son 2nd person of the Trinity. So Mormons, which Jesus do you believe in? A. Your jesus of the Book of Mormon, who is the brother of Satan. OR B. The Jesus of the Bible, who is God the Son 2nd person of the Trinity.

23:11 It displays a deep lack of understanding and compassion to imply that people suffering with trauma bonding are weak or lack intelligence. That is extremely insulting and hurtful. Tell that to Elizabeth Smart, or any other number of traumatized and abused women and girls. What an unfortunate thing to say. Trauma bonding is a natural response to being treated as if you don't matter -- as if you are a means to an end for someone who has power over you, which was absolutely the case with Helen who claimed her father "sacrificed" her and willingly "laid" her "on the alter," despite it breaking her mother's heart as well as her own, for his own purposes -- to be connected to Joseph Smith and ensure his own exaltation. By the way, that is a bizarre theology that we don't begin to support today. In this comment, Hannah is referring to this video -- for those who want to gain a far more complete and full understanding of polygamy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RJVHQMebLXY.html

Hey Michelle. So first off I'm confused as to how you can be discussing Helen's "trauma-bonding" when you reject the historocity of her own testimony and lived experiences. Hannah didn't say people with trauma bonding are weak and lack intelligence, so don't put words in her mouth. She said these weren't women with trauma bonding. Furthermore being willing to "lay all on the alter" is a doctrine of the gospel. Do you think Jesus had trauma bonding? Or Isaac? They were both the "one ewe lamb" whose righteous fathers literally "layed them on the alter." Also Joseph Smith didn't say it was a necessary step to ensure "Heber C. Kimball's exaltation", he said it would ensure the exaltation and salvation of her family and kindred, this he said directly to Helen Mar Kimball. We have her record of it.

@@elizabethvidrine7936 I don't understand your first sentence -- it seems illogical. "These are not women you walked over. These are not women with trauma bonding. These are not women that are psychologically damaged. Get to know these women. They're intelligent. They think for themselves." The implication is extremely clear. It is not an insult to point out that the elements of trauma bonding are present in a girl's or woman's life and should be considered as we seek to understand her. And, are you honestly comparing 14 year old Helen to Jesus Christ, the son of God and Savior of all mankind? It sounds like you are basically saying that his willingness to allow himself to be sacrificed means that it is okay for polygamist fathers and leaders to raise their daughters to believe they are obligated to marry whoever and whenever they are told, and then to marry them off at 14 for their own gain. It is an extremely dangerous thing to claim that Jesus's sacrifice justifies fathers in sacrificing their children. I would recommend staying very far away from that line of reasoning.

I have relatives that practiced celestial marriage (plurality of wives), and none were forced. I have spent many years defending Joseph Smith marriages to Helen Mar Kimball. I read and listened to many historians on the subject. I have not seen anything where she was forced into the agreement. I did find some statements where she was disappointed she would not be given to Joseph Smith (after the ceremony) but remained with her parents. She later bore her testimony of her sealing to the prophet and encouraged her husband (married for time) to be sealed to other wives. What an awful topic. No wonder there are more men on here than women. A loving Heavenly Father would never put his faithful daughters in such an awful situation. He glorifies women and polygamy is an abomination in his sight. It is miraculous that the Joseph Smith papers were "mostly" revealed that allowed people to see what Joseph Smith actually believed and taught. And, that the first Book of Commandments published stated the revelation that given that was standard for marriage is monogamy. There is not one shred of first hand evidence otherwise until Joseph Smith was killed. Then conspiring men brought this evil into the church and changed JS's historical writings. We need to keep in mind what situation these women's circumstances were and that they had to do "and say" anything they were told or they would be ostracized. They had no rights. Section 132 was written AFTER JS was killed and it contradicts ALL scriptures when God states man should have one wife. There is not any scripture that state that God tells any man to take more than one wife. And in Jacob, the scripture that has been misinterpreted by polygamists everywhere since Brigham Young, when raising a righteous seed, it states that God has to explicitly command there should be no polygamy allowed or if He doesn't, the people will do otherwise.

The foundation actually posits the theory that Joseph Smith and his brother, Hyrum, are the two prophets spoken of by John in Revelation 11. It's either a very sloppy interpretation, or the Stoddards were trying to sell their awful collection of DVDs by baiting them with sensational claims. It doesn't matter which is worse; the JS Foundation was distributing DVDs that clearly were designed to sell them to an ignorant population. I listened to all of its DVDs and, in each case, talking heads were babbling heads. The two prophets clearly are _not_ the Smith brothers, for the Smiths were never in Jerusalem, nor were they killed and resurrected in Jerusalem. I suspect Ms. Stoddard has either a book or some DVDs to sell. As it is, I don't trust anyone connected with the JS Foundation.
