Great topic! Thank you! Yes, the fear of leaving the house alone is real! I used to 'overthink' all the things that could happen. Now, I just get out and do things more often; pay attention to my surroundings at all times, plan ahead, and enjoy life as it is. A good friend kept saying, get out there, it'll get easier with practice. They were right!

Great topic. Agoraphobia is definitely real and it can be very limiting. It takes a conscious effort to work through that.

As I have gotten older, I have become more of a homebody. And this was before my vision loss. I used to laugh at my Granny for being a homebody and I turned into her. I think for me though, it comes from the fact that before my vision loss, I was a courier and drove 350 miles a day. So when I got home, I wanted to stay there. Today, I force myself to get out an do. I do some public speaking on something that is near and dear to my heart and I’m active with a group that has the same interest. I’m also active in my church. I’m taking a two night a week ministry class in hopes of starting my own RU-vid channel for those who deal with chronic illnesses. You and Sam do an amazing job of covering the blindness aspect, but I also know what it’s like to struggle to breathe due to asthma, or want to do something, but be stuck in the bathroom, to have a cough that just won’t go away, or to have lyphadema and balance issues. So I know there’s a whole lot of hurting people out there. But I WON’T go into a crowd if I can avoid it. When I had full vision I didn’t mind. But not now. My husband and his family love to go to Walmart on a Saturday morning. Not me. I’ve worked too many of them and I don’t h have to go into that crowd. I do miss being able to go places by myself.

Love you vids brother. But, you have got to keep your wife on here with you because the discussions yall have are sometimes more beneficial. Mainly because our spouses are a hugh part of our lives and always having her input should be a great benefit to all V.I.P.s.

My fear is in a crisis or emergency I won't be able to respond. Or telling someone in need that I can't assist them. Having RP, it's not what I see that's a problem but what I don't see right next to me.
