Discussing the Barbie Birthstone Collection 

I love these dolls. The dresses are pretty, but at the time that these were on the shelves, it was just becoming more common to combine some of these skin and hair tones. Like, finding a very pale skintone doll with really dark hair, for instance, was pretty darn hard. And I finally felt represented. The other thing that is really wonderful about them is that they have some pretty dramatic eye makeup! Wish we could go down that path once in a while again. Barbie so often seems so bare-faced anymore.

I think they came with a real stone in the necklace. The Dolls are all beautiful. Make the dress the same just in different colors probably kept costs down, and it is glitter on them. These dolls probably retailed for under 20 dollars so they are great for what they where. 😊

Even with the same dress they are still so pretty. I cry when I see the quality of Barbie from the mid 2000s and earlier. Like these would be $75 easily now. My birthday is Dec 1 so mine would be Turquoise, I saw other photo with an AA version of the doll and she's so cute.

August and October are my favorite! 😊

Born in January and man I loved it.

I think many of these are really pretty and in person, most of them do look better. My mother was born the 1st of January and her stone was a Garnet, but she loved Rubies better. I never saw a bright garnet before. Most of the ones she had were a darker red, and she even had some brown garnets. My birthstone is Aquamarine. I think they did a good job of my doll and it's a really pretty color of aqua. My favorite stone is also Opal and I love the doll. In person she is really pretty compared to the photos. The Pearl one is also very pretty. I actually like the Topaz and it makes me think of a light caramel in some of the stones. I think her doll is pretty. The ones i don't like are the Turquoise and the Peridot. I like the stones, but the dolls were not executed the best to me. Maybe at some point, you could consider doing a video on all the Christmas Barbies? Since we are near that time, it would be cool to see what you think of them and how they were executed. I know it's a bit different than this video, but it might be fun. Anyhooo, have a great dolly evening

Birthstone Barbies are very beautiful

Love the March one. She's my month. She looks like a mermaid. The doll wearing the diamond dress looks less than enthused about her dress too. Somehow I like pearl better than diamond. Maybe it's the presentation. Wow. Ruby might be my fave.

They need to do something else to differentiate these dolls. I don't think id mind that it's the same dress if they were colored more accurately and given unique accessories. They should have different jewelry, crowns, and clutch bags that resemble the stones.

These are beautiful! I found them on eBay a few months ago. The problem is there are so many I can't decide which I want most. For each birthstone they have several versions with different hair colour and skintone. The birthstone for me is Sapphire but I don't really like that colour.

They are so pretty! Great video! Did you ever come across the star sign Barbie’s? They are really pretty too imo, they are still pretty affordable and the screenings and quality of dolls were very good for pink label. Thanks for sharing!

So here's my jeweler thoughts on Barbie's gemstone interpretations: Garnet can come in a more purple tone, so I think the color choice for the Garnet Barbie is just fine! I can see them trying to save a redder red for Ruby. Amethyst Barbie looks nice. 🤷‍♀️ Aquamarine Barbie has a fantastic color. Diamond Barbie does feel boring, looks a bit more like a pearl imo [you were thinking of the word 'fire', I think. That's what we use to describe the rainbow]. Emerald barbie is fine. Pearl Barbie could've been so much better; they could've done so many different colors and they chose... white. Ruby Barbie looks lovely colorwise. Peridot Barbie was a choice; I understand why they picked that green, but they couldve gone more yellow.❤ Sapphire can come in all colors [including red, but then we call it ruby], but I'm not surprised they picked blue. I do wish they went darker blue with her though. Opal is hard to recreate, so I think they did okay with her; they def did a softer white opal. I really like Topaz Barbie; I think the brown was a nicer choice instead of a vibrant yellow. Turquoise Barbie...that's the wrong color. They could've added some black glitter to the dress to represent the inclusions found in the stones. *I will mention that sometimes stones are cut to display multiple colors.

My birth month is May, I was surprised about the Emerald (where I live, the stone is usually rose quarz). But I think she is pretty.

I also feel extremely passionate about opal so I appreciated your rant there, it was like hearing myself lmao. As for turquoise, I think they were trying to go for what is known as sleeping beauty turquoise, which is a vibrant blue similar to that. It's the one most commonly used in Native American jewelry. That said, I do agree that it doesn't really capture the stone, most of these really missed the mark. Opal looked more like pearl than pearl. I guarantee you that they designed it this way because they couldn't come up with great ideas for some of them and didn't want it to look like certain stones were favored, so they brought them all down in the name of "fairness" instead of letting a few stand out.

I discovered these earlier this year and i have the emerald and peridot on my wishlist for my daughter and myself. I think these dolls are beautiful. I feel like in online listings for peridot it does look like a more yellowish green. The stock photos look different and I'd be pretty disappointed if that's what it actually looks like.

Have to say I like the 2007 versions (short dresses) better than the 2002 version (long dresses). The 2007 version seems to showcase the stone in the necklace better. I’m an August person and always hated the stone, but have come to really like the peridot….have come to appreciate its light green color. This was a fun video…thanks!

My birth month is also April and I always am bummed we got stuck with Diamond, I feel like it belongs to everybody so doesn't feel special and I would love some COLOR (I know it technically has all the colors, but you know what I mean lol).

I had the same reaction to the turquoise Barbie. She's simply not turquoise! btw the G3 ponies had a line of birthflower ponies and birthstone ponies (both Toys R Us exclusives) if you wanted to do more birthday themed videos! (G1 also had birthflower ponies but the US ones are all white + pink . . . There's a variant set from the nordic countries (I think?) that are more interesting.)

The garnet Barbie is very pretty but doesn’t remind me of garnets; my mom’s birthstone is amethyst and oh, I definitely thought they’d be different dresses 😂😂😂 I’m glad you didn’t back down 😂😂😂 but it reminds me more of amethyst than garnet so there’s that 😅; oh I love the raw aquamarine! Oh the aquamarine Barbie is stunning! Oh Aquamarine, I remember that movie!!! Yeah that diamond dress is disappointing. I love your idea of a black dress with white rhinestones! Poor emerald Barbie, my birthstone is emerald and I don’t care for her. Huh Pearl isn’t that great either, they really didn’t try with a lot of these, did they?! The sapphire Barbie is very pretty 😊 My mom used to have an opal dream and it was so pretty. Hmmm I guess they did try on the Barbie but it just doesn’t wow me like actual opals do. My birthstone is Emerald because I was born in May.

They also had another birthstone barbie with a shorter dress and came with a puppy right? I think that one is more beautiful than this gowns.
