you have to admit that disgaea games openings really are something, they don't just do the main characters justice but also the side characters and pawns and stuff.
Disgaea plot Disgaea 1: Laharl - Daddy issues Disgaea 2 : Rozalin - Daddy issues Disgaea 3 : Mao - Daddy issues Disgaea 4 : Romance of a vampire topped with seafood with a side of side character daddy issues
Harukachan6 True. I mean, I love every Disgaea game I played, and I think every single one of them would make good anime. I kinda wish Nippon Ichi would let a company make them. Even if they were different a bit like the last Disgaea anime, I'd still be happy.
Disgaea 2 opening is still the best. Disgaea 4 however helped me understand what kind of relationship Valvatorez had with Vulcanus/Artina before I started the game.
Every time Valvatorez does the little animation to throw out his cape I think of Zero from Code Geass. That and I love the way he puts emphasis on the word "sardines" Val is definitely going up as one of my more favored characters of all time.
Probably my favorite Disgaea to date (I'm still trying to finish Disgaea 5 but got burnt out a bit from playing 3, 4 and D2 all back to back, so im just taking a break). The characters are all so lovable. The story has the most parallel to the first one, but arguably better -spoilers ahead-, I love how the team basically have everything, humans, angels and demons.
The finale of this intro still shoots me right in the heart-soul whatever!. I still remember the first time seeing this intro. Damn man it sorta reminded me of the same feeling of Clannad. I didn't even need to understand the lyrics at the time to know how it was going to end. Didn't even read about the game, just bought it because I like disgaea. (Except disgaea 3). I remember seeing the first part instantly made me realize that Valvatorez falter from something. Then when it showed him in his Tyrant form,I was confused for a second. Then as I listened and interpret more,it made sense. It was a tragedy, something happened to make him falter. It was the ending scene that brought everything together. This was really the only Disgaea game that gave you direct insight into what the game will revolve around. Oh yes,Fenrich is gay,yep...I found the lyrics to Naked Requiem it is incredibly homosexual. Though well sucks for Fenrich, since Valvatorez is lenient on Artina lol. If I remember right Valvatorez did not like dishonesty. Though well even though Artina was dishonest with him. He never held any resentment towards her. Rather oh I spotted something else. He sympathized with her pretty much in the same way she sympathized with him when they first met. Damn...how did I miss that?. There are many evidence pointing to his leniency as well. Like the tournament,he was tricked into fighting, yet he accepted it without a dispute. Fenrich doesn't show it either, but he even realizes that Valvatorez has a soft spot for her. Though I still laugh to this day. Valvatorez becoming carried way in his speech where he pretty much confesses. At that point everyone knew when he was lying whenever he tried and changes the subject to,"Sardines".(Oh yeah,on a game lol I trolled players. Tons of them wanted to know why my character was so strong and I told them it was because of sardines and gave them a whole crash course explaining all the benefits of sardines haha. The even more hilarious part is that it was so stupid that it was completely logical).
No offense to the other game, but this gets me pumped way more than the Disgaea 3 opening (which was all right in its own way). Looking at this, I just think "wow, we're gonna do stuff, something's gonna go down, it's gonna be crazy". Sold.
So I showed this to a friend, whod never even heard of the disgaea games. Afterwards he told me that he had no idea what was going on at any point. Looking at it again... Yeah, if you havent been keeping up with the series, this appears completely insane. But to those of us who have been playing, it makes perfect sense.
He may not get the references and context to the guest characters but every disgaea is its own thing for the most part IMO. Kind've like final fantasy, you can jump into almost any installment without worry.
My older sister introduced me to Disgaea through the first two episodes of the anime. Those two episodes alone made me think that Disgaea isn't *supposed* to make sense. I then went on to watching the cutscenes for Disgaea 1, Disgaea D2, and Disgaea 4, as well as watching the majority of the anime on my own. I got the references and a lot of the jokes were absolute gold. I still don't think it's supposed to make complete sense, not that it's a bad thing. In my opinion, I think it was meant to be a little chaotic. It feels like it's part of the charm.
I got this games out of mare curiosity a few months ago. Boy I don't regret it one bit. Now I'm playing the first game and having a blast. I think the only thing I regret is not checking the series before.
Whenever I play this game and yes I am the Disgaea fan that watches the opening every time before I play, my cousins say, "Were not watching it, are we?" And I'm all like, I wish.. I want there to be an anime for this..
Worst opening I ever saw was disgaea 3. Cannot say on favorite though,I like part 2,part 4,and part 5 intro. I never skip them as well heh. Out of music wise sinful rose would be my favorite. Though the last few lines of last engage, and somewhat towards the center. That building and that climax it was flawless. If the intro was adjusted to the tragedy it was,it could have been better. Yes I read the lyrics, but I suppose the right words may or may not have been used,it may have just been poorly executed at those points making the series seem happy but when it really is not. Disgaea 5 intro now though,an all out war heh, though towards he middle I think when that memory scene or whatever,it is clear to say that the game will have a great impact.
This entry will leads have a special place in my heart for restoring my faith in the disgaea franchise. I skipped out on D3 because of no Laharl after being disappointed with 2 having No Laharl either. But I decided took into 4 after hearing some buzz and I'm glad I did, I love this series!
***** not as a main character. Laharl IMO is the embodiment of Disgaea, and playing 2 wasn't quite the same as the first disgaea story-wise. The second was entire too tame in comparison to 1 and 4
Player One I don't think having Laharl is a must in these games, but 4's story is just that great. D2 did refine the gameplay alot with Laharl as the protagonist again, so these 2 are my current favourites.
Player One D1, will always remain the best, but it did have it's own fair share of issues. D2 improved on many of the mechanics for the game and world lore but the plot was a tad weak. D3 I'll just call an experiment. D4 however, was a beautiful masterpiece that perfected D1s story and writing and D2s combat and mechanics.
+PacManAction Yeah, that's kind of what I mean. I liked Disgaea because the entire theme was the embodiment of absurdity. When you're playing, you can't tell if the game is trying to be a parody or not. D2 was too tame in that aspect. D4, while having a more serious story in general, it still kept the overall absurd characters and stories that the story is known for and proved that Disgaea as a series wasn't just a one hit wonder
I kinda wish they retained the first game's style in the way of like the sound effects, the crispiness of the violence and stuff. I mean, I hate the sound that the sword makes during normal strikes and I liked how the Warrior looked like in the first installment. I do like the Angel class in D2 but I wish they retained the kind of style they had in the first game but besides that, I love the franchise.
The one thing I really like about this protagonist is his resolve to keep his promise. Like he can even overcome his own nature with just sheer will power like its nothing and still enjoy what he is doing despite it being something that everyone else views with distaste.
Yeah, Valzy is so stern with promises. I mean by the end of the game you almost forget that the main reason he took down the corrupternment was just so he could give some Prinnies the sardines. Though when it came to the human blood issue, I felt a lot like Fenrich in that I wanted him to give up on that promise to a dead person.
Damian Freeman Well, he didn't need to give up his promise because sardines... but seriously this was probably the most successfully romantic plot in this franchise.
That's the point,it's his loyalty more or less towards Artina. The game would not have gotten the title,"A Promise Unforgotten" if it did not have a critical impact on Valvatorez. It also would not have gotten the title if he broke the promise to her. Gotta read the story to understand. Stop skipping through it,and you'll see that everything makes sense. Ignore Fuka/Desco and pay attention to the three important characters Valvatorez,Artina,Fenrich. You will see that those three intersects quite a lot. To simplify it would go. Valvatoez>Artina=\Fenrich>Valvatorez. In meaning gotta go with worth towards the protagonist. It's pretty obvious that Artina is more critical to Valvatorez for many reasons. Though he would not forget his promise to Fenrich. If you haven't noticed the irony, which I spotted out recently. Is that Valvatoez believed all would have to face their sins eventually. So his punishment ironically, was 400 years of guilt. Which in the end made him out to be a better person. Fenrich understands Valvatoez, but not why he is so committed to his promise. All of this is explained in the story if you take the time to read and interpret.
@93SuperSonic 1. Axel isn't playable in the main story, so he isn't a main character in this game. 2. Flonne being an angel again did NOT come out of nowhere, if you had played Disgaea Infinite you would know that she started to absolve a speacial training to make up for her sins and becoming an angel again even before the events of Disgaea 3.
I believe the first 2 games are on the PSN as PS2 classics. 3 and 4 are on PS3. 3 is also on Vita (with all the DLC+ more) and 4 is getting a Vita port as well.
I don't know, i'm pretty sure the fight against baal in his real form (strongest overlord) on disgaea 1 is canon, making him the strongest by disgaea d2, but no matter the strength, there is a legendary power that will make anyone into the strongest ever, the power of main characterness.
What chest? She's still as flat-chested as always. ... and that's why she still remains my Disgaea waifu. But yeah, that animation of her destroying the world is awesome.
he used them as weapons, and even if we give 2 magichange monsters to valvatorez too, it would still be 8 against 1, and i also meant loyal friends and comrades, not 2 random monsters like laharl... and he still had the power of a main character... that goddamn and semi-invincible power...
Hello anyone passing by. Its 2019 as of now. We're getting a Disgaea 4 port to Switch and PS4....I'll he honest Valzy for smash don't @ me. Idc if Laharl has a bigger chance I need him in that game. Idc if its an anime sword fighter. This game transformed me into the weeb I am today growing up
I'm glad I didn't watch the opening before playing, because they fuckin' spoiled the fact that Flonne shows up. Also, lol at Axel posing at the end like he's part of the crew XD
hmmmm i dont know i just have this special connection to laharl for some reason since it was my first disgaea game, then i played 3 then 2 and so far 1 and 2 have been my fave the only character i actually truly liked from 3 was the blue haired dude with red scarf, he was funny and pretty cool
Is this worth buying? I loved the first disgaea because the characters were funny, the story was pretty beautiful, and the hidden secrets (like the ones about Laharls parents) were really mindblowing. but the later 2 games just didn't do it for me, it was missing what the original game had. does this one have what i am looking for?
I already bought it, and am currently only missing one trophy. I'd say it was worth my money, but the first game still had a betterstoryline in my opinion. but i guess i jut like the story about Laharls parents more than the story about the characters siblings
klausiboy kristensen To be honest I feel that the Disgaea team has done a very good job with the Disgaea series. All protagonist is relatively different from each other while keeping to the dark comedy and various different storyline that shows love overcomes all. Well, I use that as a very loose term.
klausiboy kristensen IMHO, Disgaea 4 has the BEST plot in all series, Every character holds his own story and secrets, which are revialing in the second part of the game. And every character has own charisma. Valvatorez is the best protagonist in all series - brutal and comic as hell. Adell was good, but he had no humour. Mao and Laharl are just selfish kids, annoying tsunderes(exp. Laharl is Disgaea D2 was horrible in a bad way)
LoLProRocker Laharl and Mao are both overlords in Netherworlds where all that matters is being powerful. Of course they'd be selfish, they're DEMONS. Demons are very rarely nice people in general terms. Valvatores and Adell are strange exceptions - the former because he felt guilty over not fulfilling his promise, and the latter because spoilers.
They should really recall this game and redo it better. Using scenes from the intro in the time leap would have made it much better. On top of that, leaving out Fuka and Desco from the past would enhance it even more. To put it short,Artina and Valvatorez development could have been executed a lot better with some common sense. The main story was great, but could use better work as well. Still the best one I've played with D1 being one of my favorites. Mistakes to be redone would be. 1. No Fuka and Desco in the time leap. 2. Take it down a notch with Fuka and Desco in the main story. Focus more along the lines with Valvatorez,Artina, and Fenrich. 3. Have Artina a bit more appealing in the main story. I mean if she was feeling guilty and uncertain how confront Valvatorez. Then there should have been quite a bit of inner thoughts about her doubts. Then at times bringing up the subject, then retreating from it etc. That would have made the revelation much more appealing. 4. Add Nemo into the Time Leap. 5. Show after Artina's demise how Nemo lost his humanity. 6. Elaborate a bit more on Valvatorez falter from being a Tyrant within time leap. 7. Make Axel a bit more appealing,he was more annoying than entertaining. Disgaea 2 was the game for him,but not 4. 8. Cut it down a bit with Fuka and Desco being love fanatics. I mean sure if they know about it,then don't go saying it all the time literally,it kinda kills the mood. 9. Intro song does match, but actually have the vocalization match the tragedy that the game is. 10. Seriously? The moon? I get it has to do something about Fenrich and Valvatorez promise. Though let's be rational here,it's plain ridiculous. What should have been done was to stick to the point that it was about Artina's demise. Then for plot reason, have the final battle right in the Church she perished in. That would also impact Valvatorez plot wise as well, and make for one hell of a finale. Now if Nemo was thinking to destroy everything, then like a villain,he would have had the final showdown to try and destroy Valvatorez in a familiar ground that chained all the events together, etc.I think that's about it. Number seven really isn't that necessary, but for the rest, just remaking the game and making all of the corrections could not only boost it's ratings, but completely give the game a new feel. It would,1. Maintain the tragedy that the game is. 2. Show the developments of the characters better. 3. Actually make the comical scenes even more hilarious when it arises. 4. Lessen plot holes. 5. Actually create a better atmosphere. Yeah I played this game enough to spot out the problems -_-. Really good, but can use some major modifications.
Disgaea 4 is such a good game. While it's not my favorite (Disgaea 2) It's a damn close second, while not my favorite game, it was easily the for me the funniest and had my favorite cast of characters as well as protagonist and I loved the way the reused older characters such as Aexl and Flonne with purpose, they weren't just there just 'cause. hell, the only real reason this isn't my fav is because of the story, it felt like they threw the story out the window past chapter 7 and I hated the like 3 false endings -_- I also wish Axel had more of a potent role in the story as an ally instead of joining in the post game. I'm super glad I got my hands on a vita copy of d4! I can sink a ton of time into a game that deserves it
@93SuperSonic I don't see how the fact that Flonne is still a fallen angel in Disgaea 3 disproves my argument. She started the training in Disgaea Infinite. Of course it took her a while to become an angel again. Uh, what do you mean by "if you see Disgaea 1". I played through HoD several times, so ... ? A fighting game spin off? You mean like the gameplay from something like Tekken but with Disgaea charas?
Playing it atm its pretty fun game a-lot of interesting mechanics still gotta a-lot to learn. The main character seems kind of meh though i mean i understand the game doesn’t take it self seriously so that cool.
why was flonne (it looked like her in normal angel form) bombarding earth with meteor? also i heard this game was the one that "confirmed" mid boss (vyers) was laharls father
Yoshi Stover if you played the first game it gives you a lot of hints, and if you like disgaea game syou should have already heard of it, also this game is relatively old you know?
@PiZzAfReAk456 !. I konw, but they put Axel with Val's team in the manual, trailer, and intro here; come on don't you think it's kind of misleading? 2. I played infinate, saw the ending and Flonne's still a fallen angel in Disgaea 3. Besides if you see Disgaea 1 you'll understand BTW, if there was a fighting game spin off for Disgaea, what would u think?
