Actually XShock, Dr. Lee said Blue was mean at first because of his level of pain. I've been in animal rescue for 30 yr. and presently have 2 rescue dogs and 3 rescue cats. The very best dog I ever had was a Dobe! She helped me raise my boys after their dad died. She died from bloat at almost 13 yr. old; I grieved for her for 10 yr. even while fostoring and adopting other pets. You just cannot do any better than a Dobe for intelligence, sweetness and comic relief!

Great work with getting some meat on his bones. Any time I see y'all working with dogs that skinny I worry about refeeding syndrome complications. If the foster family can get him some social skills & table manners he'll be a WONDERFUL family pet. I miss having my dogs around, but it still hurts too much to even take on a foster yet. In the mean time, I'll keep watching & supporting all that you do for our furry friends Thanks Dr. Lee for showing us a happy ending and a beautiful, lovable Dobe.

People can be cruel but they don’t deserve hell. They may have grown up in a different belief. Some people grow up in harsher conditions and it just causes chain reactions. Not everyone can recover from abuse or have there mind change from they grew up with

I dont think anyone actually "did" rhis intentionally or directly. Its possible that he ran away from a home that his owners had just moved into. He could have gotten lost. They did say that he was found wandering the streets.

That's what dobies look like without the "show" alterations, the tail docked and the ears cut to stand up like that. I would really like to smack the person who came up with that whole thing, btw. My friend has two rescue dobies, one with the alterations and one not, and before that it simply hadn't occurred to me that they do that. To puppies. I mean, why???

@@abbyiswatching2046 from what I know, docking and cropping is traditional, though it may have once been necessary. Dobermans were bred to protect (Mr. Dobermann had some very dangerous jobs), and short ears and tails can help prevent someone getting a hold on the dog. Nowadays it is just cosmetic. Also, this procedure is done to puppies, since it is apparently easier to perform on younger dogs compared to older ones, especially in terms of post-op. That's just my two cents. Hope it helps!

@Scarlet Fisher: If you can believe this, they actually had a vet office next door to the shelter and said that "minimal legal care" was being administered to the animals, therefore the shelter was compliant. Further, their policy was euthanasia for very sick animals (therefore I wasn't supposed to speak up). We e-mailed the lap dog rescue in my state to get the sick little guy we saw, I couldn't take him because my current animals are vulnerable (have puppy too). The real tragedy I'm told is our state used to have a non-profit where prisoners trained rescue dogs to be companion dogs or medical helpers. They ran out of money and stopped the program even though it was saving dogs and helping reform non-violent offenders. It was such a great idea and got the bigger dogs out of the shelter quick. Now the shelters are over crowded and we have all the bad that goes with that.

Once an extreme mental disorder makes its way into your life it is impossible to escape it without help. These killers and abusers are victims. They are being attacked by their own minds. This is in no way an excuse for their crimes, but imagine having your mind force you to do things that you would never want to do, imagine it tearing you apart and turning you into someone society calls a monster. The cycle will only repeat for the person and the animals that they abuse if we don't help both.

The statement in which I said earlier is and once again I will say, " is in no way an excuse" it is simply an explanation. And yes there are many people who are born without the ability to feel empathy or compassion, but there are more than several other mental illnesses that can cause such abuse that are treatable. I know this because I had a very similar illness that was treated. Yes, not all cases are treatable. The ones that are can be almost impossible to treat, but I believe its worth a try. Without help who knows what I could have become. Those people are worth a try not just for them, but so that animal abuse can lessen. But of course you are more than entitled to your own beliefs. And as a person who also has strong beliefs I can only respect that.
