@@Arkaner3 Before throwing shade, look at the details. They're two completely different studios. Dishonored, Prey and Deathloop were all developed by Arkane Lyon. Redfall was a brand new studio in Austin with completely different roster of developers behind it, with just Harvey Smith having some power over the game's creative direction, as usual. Possible a couple more devs from Lyon on it. And it's not just that they're different studios, save for the name, but Bethesda were also aching to dish the game out as soon as possible after Deathloop, the game that Arkane Lyon were developing.
@@beforcial well, yeah... To begin with, waaaayyyy higher level of quality 😂 no offence meant to op, but badger's running a full body suit for his videos... As for humour - also up a few notches
One example of how deep the game is: Later in the middle of the game, after you saved Emily, Calysta the carer, will ask you to find Emily cuz they were playing hide and seek and if you find Emily, she will give u a rune that she found in the river mud. And if you pay attention to what Outsider says in the second mision when he would tell u about an old city under the Dunwall he will mention the runes and: "Children still find them washed up in the river mud"- he predicted this from the beginning.
16:28 I assume this is a trained AI voice model or something and if it is then you have discovered its true and only purpose. I laughed so hard at that, damn😂
Also if you keep trying to "talk" to Emily when she is sleeping (after the Sokolov mission I believe) one of her lines is her asking someone to stop talking to her and asking why his eyes are so black... Makes you wonder if he meant for her to find the rune, not to mention the foreshadowing for Dishonored II
Also, I'm pretty sure he explains that he doesn't see time linearly, but instead gets random jumbled glimpses of the world. He isn't just predicting it, he has already seen it.
Rest in Peace Daniel Licht. Composer of the OST for Dishonored 1 and 2. Just listen to it, even if you haven't played the game. You will feel the game just through the music.
Fun fact: The reason young me actually played through it again without killing is because how samuel reacted during the last mission. He was one of the strongest bonds since he's been around since the beginning, and how he reacted made me want to redo it and keep him friendly :)
I remember playing this as a kid (i was like 11 lmao) and thinking the Tallboys were indestructible because you couldn't swordfight them. Accidentally drop assassinated one by clumsily falling off a ledge and button mashing in a panic. I was truly the stealth of all time😂
Fun Fact: If you decline Samuel's offer to immediately leave Coldridge Prison and then dive into the water, Samuel has specific dialgoue to warn you about the hagfish. You can also find a sunken chest with loot nearby. I've played Dishonored 1 to death, and found out only recently.
THIS IS WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS GAME ... I am STILL finding out stuff that I did not know! It's astounding how deep and unpreachy about that depth this game is!
Also: if you accept Slackjaw's second side-quest in exchange for non-lethally dealing with the Pendleton twins, kill the twins, and report back to Slackjaw after finishing his second side-quest, he has unique dialgoue where he outwardly wonders about what kind of man the Masked Felon is.
The goddamn Outsider Pickle Rick joke absolutely killed me. When he said "I saw a man once turn himself into a pickle" I was like huh never heard that line before in all my playthroughs but it kinda fits the outsider character, then the punchline kicked in and I had to pause the video to die laughing, and then liked and subscribed. Also thank you for talking about my all-time favorite game with more passion and thoroughness that I could ever put to video.
0:22 Imagine how terrifying it must be for Corvo to just see this entity standing here ranting about how his world is a stealth action game, and Bend Time doesn't even stop it.
Something I've noticed over MANY playthroughs of varying chaos and playstyles is the number of Samuel's reactions on the final level. From "you make me sick", "I don't like what you've become Corvo. That's why I'm telling them you're coming." and firing a pistol into the air, "I'm a bit disappointed in you", to "you never let it get to you" or "You're a hero to these people corvo. Bring her home." It was a lot more than just good line/bad line and I still haven't been able to find any source of every one of his reactions.
Honestly yeah, I've head of him doing that as well but never managed to get it on my play throughs. Might have been an hidden severity to the chaos if you went extra brutal.
i believe "I don't like what you've become Corvo. That's why I'm telling them you're coming." and firing a pistol into the air" happens if you kill a punch of civs ontop of everything else
Can confirm. I forgot which one I got on my "medium" chaos first run, but I got the "You're a hero" on my max diff clean hands + ghost + shadow run, and then when I speedran the game on easy murdering everyone for the high chaos ending he fired the gun. I was shocked like "samuel you bastard! 😧"🤣
Dishonored 1 and 2 are among my most replayed games. Some of the best world building in gaming, nothing forced it just teases you into wanting to know more. Playing it as a no kill, no detection and no power is one of the funnest ways to play it.
Arkane creating games they want to create like Dishonored and Prey is such a treat. Atmosphere and level design are probably some if not the best in all of gaming for me. Just how you can tackle a level and go through it in so many different ways is just crazy.
Too bad Bethesda forced them to sell the company and now they lost their creative freedom. Redfall total feel like a project sent to them from marketing
My type of humor, straight forward and not overly wordy, doesn't treat his audience like senile old people who aren't familiar with the times Subbed my dude 👍
Not everyone enjoys watching 30 minute videos, or perhaps just videos on a game they dont care about. Good video but i can see why some wouldnt watch it
It’s a great video. Maybe even one of the best dishonored videos; but (and this is a fairly heavy qualifying statement) this style of review is ripped directly from nakeyjakey. Like it’s almost exactly the same. Originality speaks volumes in a world where I can abstract that most of this content is attempting to play off the viral potential that Jake’s videos maintain. It’s a disconnected, almost aloof style of diving deep into the structures of certain games or gaming ideas.
@@iWork3d Dang I missed Jakey for a while there. He's back now, but there was a long time without any uploads. It's understandable though. Yeah I can see similarities, but art doesn't exist in a vaccum. People are going to take influence from other artists, and it makes sense. I like Jakey's videos, and I like this dude's videos now too. (I just discovered this channel)
The powers that mess everything up being the tempting and cool ones is kind of the point. The story, world, and gameplay reflect the fact that blind destruction and the pursuit of revenge at any and all costs often make things worse. The story and gameplay tempt you with power and revenge, because it is making the point that power and revenge are innately tempting things. In real life, it is easy to give in to bad decisions because of greed or anger; doing so usually makes situations a lot worse. This would not work if the powers were not interesting enough to be tempting, and the villains hateable enough to want revenge on. Essentially, it is like how the game tells you the story of the world through indirect means. This is the game giving power and credence to its theme through indirect means.
Exactly, while Dishonored 2 blows chunks it's team went out of their way to basically make the game about nothing but how the Outsider's mark is a curse not a gift. And Knife of Dunwall was literally written around that axiom. The amount of people who call themselves "stealth game enthusiasts/fans" that harp on this game for punishing you for using the badass powers never paid attention to the story because they were too busy jerking themselves off for how cultured they were at turning their noses up at the game. It's pathetic With all that said, playing the entire game without using any powers at all(without killing people) except the one time you're forced to when you're put back in dunwall and have to scale that one building to the east of the start point to give the finger to The Outsider is one of the most fun playthroughs I have ever had in a game.
Nah this video actually made me emotional lol. There's nothing I love more than a beautifully crafted video game made from people who love what they do. Dishonered is one of my favorite and most replayed game ever. This is the first video I've seen from you, i subscribed immediately and I'll be binging all your other ones. Amazing work.
haha thanks dog. that twilight princess one was the most scuffed, backwards abortion of an edit to make that do what i wanted it to lol. been loving your souls videos man
Loved the editing on this one. I don't know if you motion tracked yourself frame-by-frame into the environments or if you did it automatically but regardless, it must have been a pain to get right.
The scritping, the editing, the commentary, everything is just spot-on and seems to fit perfectly in your style, or "brand". I wish your Twilight Princess video to be only the first in a series of over 1M view bangers. I'm an instant fan.
Every minute of these videos are stacked with insane quality. I'm always looking forward to the next one. It's not the only cool effect, but the lighting effect at 15:10 is sick.
watching this on my Switch where comments aren't available. had to pull this up on my phone just to point this out, but saw that it was already done so.
How the actual fuck are you this good at editing and structure? I followed you from the beginning and I swear you were always godlike. You deserve more subs
20 secs in and I’m already wanting to play it again. Such a love for the game one of the first games I ever 100% because it was so good and I fell in love with every aspect. Gameplay, visual style, MUSIC, LORE, characters, omg it’s just a masterpiece it really is
So sad hearing how they overcame the power struggle in the industry just for the same industry to come back ten fold and shut them down without warning. All that effort to be without job security after getting forced to make a game they didn’t want to. Hope the employees move on to better games and companies
Its poetic that a game with such a high attention to detail deserve a review with the same treatment. The editing in this video is genuinely impressive. Good job sir.
Only days after I discover your channel, you make a top-tier video essay on one of my favorite games of all time. Thank you for diving into this game Manley, what an awesome watch. You deserve more viewers and I know you're gonna get them.
Seriously top notch entertainment. When the outsider talked about pickle Rick, I think it was the first time in a very long time that I laughed out loud from a RU-vid video.
Seeing a shaker bottle on one of the tables at the Hound Pits had me in hysterics, thanks for that. This is one of those games where I used to know it in and out, up and down and sideways - every coin and conversation and bone charm. The way the game illustrates the lore of its world, and how much it leaves for you to put together between the fragments it leaves out for you to find and its beautiful environment design, still holds up as one of the best self-contained examples in the industry. Super cool to see someone who's still so passionate about how much they like this game.
Your jokes and your edits made my day. I’m so glad their are others who genuinely enjoyed the dishonored games. I felt the passion in this video as much as I did when playing dishonored. Thank you!
Easily one of my favorites. Its sequels were good, but even then this game never really felt outdated by them, and was always worth coming back to time and time again. Even then, I still had no clue about details like the painting changing based on whether or not you take the item - such an insane little detail. And the editing and jokes for this? Insanely good. I was cracking up with how seamless you got the voice edits in, and your dedication to those constant greenscreen effects is just wizardry.
You‘re unironically the most underrated channel I‘ve seen yet, your humor is an exact copy of what I love the most. Thank you for your effort and content, I genuinely appreciate your content and especially your time
I replayed Dishonored 1 + 2 cause they were free with epic games a while ago and fell in love with them again. I haven't played since the original came out on the PS3 and they still hold up!
"the betrayal that EVERYONE soo from miles away" :) 18y old me didnt.. and it hit me like a truck to this day one of my favorite games. dashing around taking out any guards i thought were in my way and letting the rest go, jumping from ledge to ledge firing the crossbow... this video just made me go get it on pc aswell
I'm happy you brought this to the plate, When I played this for the first time thinking why is no one talking about it This game is really well designed the art style and had a great story line... Hope they make more games like this. great video!
The editing in your reviews is always super clean, and you always pack them full of so much interesting info. Also pretty rad hearing Periphery at 14:30 :)
Fr that was super unexpected and extremely rad, hearing one of your favorite bands in a video unrelated to them, just shows they are getting larger in audience
This is one of those few times when I'm immediately sold on a channel, normally I'd watch a few videos before subbing but the quality of this video is so good (and about a game I already love) that I didn't even get halfway through before I subbed. Looking forward to binge-watching the rest of your stuff
ngl. seen tons of reviews for the game that made me love gaming again.... this one is the only one that truly expresses what i felt and had the same criticisms I experienced. Amazing job.
I've had this game in my backlog for so long I felt personally attacked by this video, good stuff man, you outdone yourself with the editing in this one! It's superb!
Having very recently played through Dishonored 1 and 2 doing ghost and clean hands. This feels like a damn near masterpiece in production quality like icing on the cake
I really enjoyed your informative, overlayed review style. I was able to watch the WHOLE thing without skipping. That's a big win when you have ADD. Bravo my man. Bravo.
The production value of this video is insane! I love the dedication and entertainment of the video on top of a great deep dive into one of the greatest games to date!
the greatest game I played without knowing what it was about (literally saw the mask and said ok) but that story stuck with me and this video depicted everything I love about Dishonored
Absolutely one of the best videos on youtube. The editing, the scripting, the pacing everything on point. Very laid back, at the same time very high quality...and that's commandable. Dishonored is one of my fav games and I've watched literally every retrospective video on it and this is definitely in my top 3. The only downside I thought was length. I would've loved to listen you for 2 hours...I think that's also a compliment...or we could say you made it very crisp which nullifies my knit-pick. I rarely comment but your video forced me to and Dishonored is so close to my heart..So I had too. This video skyrocketed my mood. Please never stop making videos. You're the creator that people NEED! Edit- will definitely be binging all your videos.
This video made me actually go back to a game that I purchased and played through a decade ago. Thank you for your exceptional videos, keep on going in what you‘re doing, it is great!
This is one of the best essays I have ever seen. Love it so much. Now I gonna binge every single one of your videos, I'm addicted. This is really one of the hidden gems that you find once in a thousand years.
Wow you are going to absolutley explode more in popularity with content like this. This has to be one of the best videos I've seen in a long time, subbed can't wait for more!
Your videos just keep getting better. Still one of the most underrated reviewers on this platform for such high quality content. One day, you're be up there with Dunkey and NakeyJakey for sure.
Crazy to imagine these were the types of masterpieces Arkane made back in the day. Now we get garbage like Redfall. I don't know how you go from this to that, it just doesn't seem conceivable.
If Xbox would've just allowed Arkane to be Arkane we could've gotten something special. I heard that roughly 70% or Arkane's staff quit during Redfall's development. Pisses me off to no end that MS buys Bethesda/Zenimax (aka the corporate overlords that pushed Arkane into Deathloop (aaka Dishonored For Dummies)) which *could have* given Arkane breathing room to make Arkane Arkane again. Instead, MS tasks Arkane with making a Far Cry style shooter (but "gracioulsy" allows Arkane to include --supernatural-- --elements-- vampires) with micro-transactions which were only taken out a few months before release because they knew --how souless the game was-- Redfall would be doa.
Marketing idea for a video game: make a 6 year old boy talk about his favorite things (make sure he likes explosions and dinosaurs) then just show gameplay of your game.
