Ive had a pair since around 2001 i think it was when i bought em. Never had a problem with them. The only thing that isn't quite the same is the leather has cracked a bit with age, so no big deal. So 10 years on and they still kick ass to this day!

break music in my Sony's while watching this......nice choice of music.

Did you ever break down the headphone even further? I would like to upgrade the cable as well myself....

Replacing the original wiring because the left speaker was going on and off due to loose connection from fraying at the corded base. Any advice on passing through two thin wires through the headband to the right side? A slight mod I'm trying later will integrate a 3.5mm stereo plug on the left side so I can easily replace the cord when defective. Was not happy with original wiring connectivity. The cheap wire has plastic threads in it making it hard to make simple twisted connections, Better quality wires should improve durability and maybe sound (though that was perfect when new).

I have the sony mdr 1a! Do you think that i can desemmble them the same way as you did here in your video? Im afraid to brake them. I have to open up thhm because the right side resonates on heavy basses. You think there isma way to fix this?
@MicheleGuido
@MicheleGuido 11 лет назад
Hey, I have these headphones and 3 years after this video I'm finally getting around to figure out how to fix all the leather peeling off. But I'm afraid to pull off the first spongey part from the earpiece because it feels like i'm ripping it, how did yours come off so easily? helllp
@CustomCans
@CustomCans 14 лет назад
@selearemus Use a circuit tester to check the cable. It is normally caused by a break in the cable eather by the jack or in the headband. The jack is easy enough to replace just buy one and solder it on but the headband is trickier.

Excellent video Jason.. how would you repair one side of the wires, as the left side has stopped working and thus has no sound coming out.. is it possible to replace the wiring? or is it too difficult Thanks

I've got some that need bringing back to life.... The head band, ear piece and cables are worn out... How much would that be to sort... I'm contemplating custom paint too...
@CustomCans

Unfortunatley we no longer repair or paint the V700 as we can no longer get hold of the parts for them

@mycamguy Hi There, When I started out I used enamel ( like humbrol ) as it is cheap enough, easy to get hold of , designed to work on plastics and most of all tough. Now I am using Auto-Bourne custom car paints and a specially formulated clearcoat. But I would stick to the enamel as it does a good job just takes a long time to dry

It is the same processing for all the same type of Headphones ?
@CustomCans
@CustomCans 12 лет назад
Tru-dat :) as long as you don't over stretch the hinges the real ones last many years. I have just had a pair in to get resprayed that was so old the head pad had almost disintegrated and the hinges had not cracks at all.

Great vid, but the only real difficult part to take off is the arc that holds the speakers from the rotating device attached to the head arc.

Thenks... The mix is one I did for the movida corona DJ Championship a couple of years ago. It's not perfect but I may have had too much of the free corona they were giving away on the night ;-)

so with this, can you replace the 3.5mm cord? Mine is all janky, i have to play with the cord to get the sound to come in both ears.

Hi, my right ear sound has gone in my Mdr-v700s how much is it for you guys to fix and possibly pimp them. :)
@CustomCans
@CustomCans 9 лет назад
Hi. They probably just need a new jack soldered on them to sort the issue. We would not be able to pimp them though unfortunately. On the V700 the can develop hairline fractures in the plastics over time and may not survive the process. As they have been discontinued for a long time now we no longer have spare parts so it would be too risky J
@nozz71

Jason Rhys-Thomas I would love another pair of these, left cup fell off completely severing the connection to the right. I still have them but they have the standard wear you would expect a 13 year old pair of the first generation of these cans to have (all cracked right through and looking like they were blown up/set on fire)
@CustomCans
@CustomCans 14 лет назад
@djtitoluv Yep a lot of people get that but I know PRO DJs who have had them for 7 years or so I suppose it is how you look after them. The HDJ-1000 have the same problem but the HDJ-2000 and HD25-1 are pretty bulletproof
@netsendjoe

Hi again. Does anyone know how to thread new wiring through the headband without breaking the thin plastic pieces that are on both sides? I could really use more info for that.

@DJJENKO Hi There, Firstly I would recommend not posting in all capitals as it makes you come across as a bit shouty and probably makes people less inclined to help you. The easiest what to tell if you have real or fake is to remove one of the earpads. The real ones have a disk of foam underneath covering the center of the driver ( check the start of the vid to see how it should look ) the fake ones have no foam disc under the pad
@nozz71

tracklist please, kthx Also, i've had a pair of these for about 11 years now, a bit battered and held together with cable ties where top hinge section has cracked, sound quality same as when they were new and just as loud, cups dry/cracked and falling apart but i'm gonna get another pair when the cups go completely.

@DFer96111 The sonys are good value for money and block out more noise. The beats look the nuts but are a little over priced for their performance. If you are looking to spend beats money and are not bothered about looks check out the Sennheiser HD25-1 or aiaiai tma-1 which are both great and v-strong

everybody complaining about these breaking or sounding like crap need to stop buying the fakes. i've had the authentics and they've lasted 5 yrs or more without any problems. that's why these have been around for yrs and not discontinued.

First off, awesome freakin video, this was amazing help. Second, i have 2 pairs of these headphones pboth of which have the exact same problem, the headphone jack is unstable and cuts out, i need to change it and now thanks to your video i can but i do not know where i can but a replacement cable, can you tell me where?
@CustomCans

Not sure where you can get an original cable - you could cut it and solder on a new jack or a beyerdynamic DT770 cable should fit

@allinonethegreat I agree with you. My second pair of these broke last night. Wish Sony would use a better plastic. Anyway, tonight I will use the tips from this video with a bit of superglue and hopefully the combination will work and save me $130.

what is the track?
@CustomCans
@CustomCans 14 лет назад
The Sonys as they block out a lot of noise and with the swivel hinges they can be warn in any position but they are not the most durable is you drop them alot. The beats are OK for street use but if you are looking to spend that kind of money I would take a look at the Pioneer HDJ-2000 and sennheiser HD25-1 as they sound better and will last longer

I have the originals, and I have the fakes, I bought the originals 3 times in a row, and none of them lasted me a year at most and I never over stretched, never folded them and never did intense neck bumping or anything that would allow them to become worn down other than home studio use, whereas my fakes have just about 1db lower bass, but they never messed up on me. Sony is losing their flare.

thanks for replying. i wish i knew before cutting the wire while trying to glue. how can the stop making these headphones. i havent seen a similar one yet. just too perfect to stop being manufactured

Sony has a distributor for nearly all of the parts, listed here: esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-accessories.pl?mdl=MDRV700DJ They mention "encompass" as the parts distributor of choice, and if you look here, you can basically build a whole set of headphones using the parts they sell: sony.encompass.com/model/SONMDRV700DJ/_/_/Sony/MDRV700DJ/Headphone I'm contemplating getting the new parts and rebuilding or just getting a used pair in better shape. The sound on these is pretty unbeatable. Hope that helps!

@CustomCans

@bucplayer6 Pulling the headband apart is v-tricky and not recommended as you have to dismantle the swivel hinges and the whole headband to get the cable out. Which in is self is not too hard but getting it back together is a nightmare. If you email me I can sell you a new headband on the cheep ( use the email address on the customcans.co.uk )

IVE WATCHED TOO MANY VIDS NOW ON BOTH AND THEY ALL CONTRADICT EACH OTHER AND MY HEAD IS GONNA EXPLODE. MINE LOOK AS REAL AS THEY COME BUT IM HEARING IF THEY DONT HAVE CE ON THEM IF THE PLATES FEEL PLASTIC ETC ETC THE SOUND ON THEM IS REALLY GOOD. SO IF SOMEONE COULD PLEASE JUST TELL ME WHAT STANDS OUT TO PROVE THEY ARE FAKE OR NOT. I WAS HOPING THEY WERE REAL AS THEY WERE FROM AMAZON THEMSELVES THX

@thpeed hi thanks for that. well good news is mine are like the ones in this video of yours :-) the bad news is your video is nealry 2 years old so there is a chance the fake ones now come with a padded disc. i have noticed the fake ones getting better and better with time just by viewing videos on here and seeing what people write for eg the green rings around the jack plugs was once a way of telling but then the fakes came with green rings. the people at the fake factory probably use you tube
