You kind of scared the living daylights out of me when speaking so loud in certain places I ended up turning it down too low and then I couldn't hear everything else you were saying. If that's your schtick then it doesn't work well for you
I like that the red creatures symbolize blood cells, that every creature has A design that hints at them being cells, bacteria etc etc. I think that IS really creative. Even the background does that.
We can't afford 2d animation, but we can afford to sabatouge and neglect the marketing for expensive films. We claim original material is a less safe idea for films than ancient IPs we control, and then deliberately make sure any original idea we have fails.
If i had a nickel for every time disney sabotaged a project with a openly queer main character, id have two nickels. Which isnt a lot but its worrying it happened twice
I enjoyed the movie, I felt like they did a good job at character building and introducing little things that get brought back up later in the movie. Also, Searcher’s family is really sweet. And I thought the overall message of how the Earth is a living thing and we have to protect it even if it means giving up our technology was a good message. I thought maybe Disney didn’t market this movie as much because it has an openly gay character. I don’t know, maybe that’s a factor, I have no evidence for that though. It was pretty creative though, I guess it could’ve been more dramatic, but it was a nice family movie. 👍
Oh they definitely didn’t promote it for the gay character, it shouldn’t be too big of a surprise. They’re probably going to blame the lack of success on the fact that there’s a gay character instead of addressing the lack of promotion instead.
Let me explain what happened, a filmmaker of the film stated on Twitter the reason this film didn't got a lot of marketing was because Disney's corporate team wanted to focus more on the big stuff this year like Wakanda Forever and Avatar: The Way of Water and because of that they got not enough budget to market the film even for toys (they were some released but that was like just three toys)
I just feel as if Illumination is getting better for this reason. With the hype of the Super Mario Bros Movie of all the leaks and promos. I think Illumination is making it easy to leak so people get more and more hyped. Sorta like the Minions: Rise of Gru and the whole gentle minions trend while there wasn’t as good of a promo for Lightyear.
Illumination was always good at marketing crowd-pleasing movies. That's how they are able to get movies that are otherwise easily forgotten to make the ridiculous amount of money that they also do.
@@finalmountain Yep. But at least Mario looks good. I can't believe _Illumination_ is waiting for us with an enjoyable movie while Diskey doesn't care anymore.
I was going to see strange world, but even my disney-obsessed family didn’t know of it. I ended up watching Black Panther Wakanda Forever, although encanto did good once it hit disney plus, maybe the same will happen here?
Thing is though is that Encanto was insanely well received and has fantastic earworm song potential. People who did watch this don't seem to care for it all too much, and it looks like it'll be more likely to fall through the cracks and be quickly forgotten like Raya And The Last Dragon was.
@@jadenmamangon9016 It’ll probably be even more forgotten than Raya. It might end up like the stuff between Treasure Planet and the Revival at best and the package features at worst.
I went to my theater with it and Black Panther 2 on (Small town, only 2 screens) me, my parents, and some other family were the only ones in the Strange World showing while BP 2 was packed haha. And both my dad and the other family's dad cringed at the gay scenes lol. (I did too, felt too artificial and slapped on compared to lumity or the cops from Gravity Falls imo)
@@RoseQuartz692 Personally I have had pretty bad childhood experiences with hay, I grew up on a farm like Searcher's son, and whenever I had to scoop cow poop I would always pickup the hay as well, which wouldn't be so bad, but my family was poor and we could barely afford hay, so a single mess up could mean expensive consequenses. I live in the city now and I thank god everyday I don't have to deal with hay anymore.
I’m one of the few people who were able to discover this movie months before it came out. I don’t plan on watching it in theaters but instead just wait for it to come to digital. I hope it’s somewhat watchable because if you dig past all the controversies, it looks like an interesting movie. Edit: I just watched it last night, and all of you will disagree when I say this but: I thought it was good 👍
I actually enjoyed Strange World. It’s not amazing, but it’s definitely not terrible. For me (Visually speaking) is the most gorgeous Disney animated movie of the new ones. The story had very interesting ideas, but i think it should’ve been longer to flesh out more the characters. Again, that’s just my opinion 🤷♂️
It’s very pretty and the animation is amazing, but I’m not sure if it makes up for the story, I just felt bored watching it and I only watched it halfway before abandoning it
I'm just waiting on disney to make something like stranger world but without a story line, or at least one built into the environment. Like someone just interacting with the environment and then those they meet - seeing it from their side! The story line always seem like they take away from the setting. Like there's storytelling movies - like marvel, but then there's environmental movies like the lorax. I thought the lorax was one of the best movies - ngl those movies where you have a nice environment and then a character comes in and either tells you of better or destroys it and then the character goes to find out is where it's at! WHile it's hard to judge a movie from a youtube video, I didn't quite see it here?
The world looks like that cause it’s probably based on molecular biology or something. They ran on the red pillow things then jumped to the purple pillow path and I was like “those are blood cells” the trees with circles for leaves are probably like platelets or something.
Great review. One amazing scene was when the main character (damn, I forgot his name already) tells his Grandfather Jaeger there's a boy he likes and Jaeger accepts it immediately and gives him advice. What a brilliant Grandfather.
I rlly liked this movie and I understand it's probably not for everyone but it was kinda sad how disney didn't even give it a chance. When I went to see it I was the only one in the entire cinema, and one of the cinema workers told me that out of the 6 times they are showing it today I was the only one who bought a ticket, and I feel that even a little push of advertising would of really helped this movie thrive.
This guy’s got a point. We all do have a love/hate relationship with Disney, including me. And I like pretty much a lot of movies, not just from Disney but in general.
I always got confused when I saw people saying they thought the advertising for this was basically non-existent because I saw so many ads for it that it was annoying, idk if marketing targeted Australia for some reason or if I somehow had the perfect ad history for algorithms to think it's something I'd enjoy and interact with
In my opinion I didn’t think it was too bad, definitely not one of Disney’s strongest, but it wasn’t TERRIBLE. Honestly, I think that this movie has the most accurately depicted tween/teen since I too can relate with some of his problems (like externally and internally panicking when near my crush)
After everything you told us about Strange New Worlds upon watching it yourself...I can totally see why The Walt Disney Company would just forget to market this movie at all, when there was nothing special about it *to* market apart from its impressive visual style and the title. Your title of this video lived up to its name more than I expected to because of this.
I thought the movie was solid. The animation style is generic Disney cartoon animations, but it is what it is. The world they crafted is gorgeous and creative. I enjoy the characters and love the messaging about father-son relationships. And I find its representation of LGBT people incredibly refreshing. The fact Ethan is gay is insignificant. We see his boyfriend for a few seconds and that's it. No one cares about it as anything other than a relationship.
Anything original: *exists* Disney: Yeah, ima just pretend I didn’t see that. (Proceeds to make a crappy live action remake they expect people to see in theaters)
My take on why the designs look the way they do...like, why there are no Godzillas or King Kongs and stuff (SPOILERS) There's not much sharp stuff inside the bodies of living things, really ☠️ like what do you expect from blood cells and sh¡t 😭 i really don't think being super threatening would be a good point. Ultimately they aren't "bad guys" or "monsters", they're biological thingies of a huge turtle's insides 🤠 imo they don't need to be threatening. I get how it's less exciting from a moviegoer's POV, but it fits the overall message
I think the same as you, the only sharp things are external objects; like the ship. Everything being loquidy, flowy and bouncy makes sense, it's an actual vein trail, lungs, etc. I like how they depicted white blood cells and tge inmune system too. A godzilla type monster there would only fit as another k8nd of parasite or illness
✌️😎✌️I felt like this movie should of bin more successful, but Disney had ruined that chance for the Strange World. Animation studios need to treat their franchises with respect.
I saw this video in my timeline and decided to check it out. I love your work, and you have a new subscriber. Loving your work isn't sappy at all. I genuinely believe if Disney moved this film to August or September, it would've done better with less competition. Who thought this film could stand up to BP2? Like seriously, the little promo that even aired made the poor movie look bland.
Disney really is on a kick with generational trauma. Some of those scenes felt like déjà vu from Encanto or Turning Red... Especially the unrealistic self-awareness of the grandfather on some scenes, which just reminded me of how everyone said the most unrealistic part of Encanto was the grandmother actually admitting she was wrong. On the other hand, it was pretty realistic with how Searcher did the same thing to Ethan that Jaeger had done to him. It was ok. Also I wish I was less genre-savvy because I could barely enjoy the journey through the "strange world" because I knew the entire plot from the second they made it down there. It all looked _way_ too obviously like actual cells and organs, and the green pando looked way too obviously evil when it was contrasted against the pale pinks of the innards. I get that they have to make the twist accessible to kids, but still. I miss being able to be surprised by twists like that.
Oh I just loved the movie! It was so fun to watch. I enjoyed every second. I wish the marketing was better because I had no idea what's the movie was going to be about until I started watching it xD, but I was positively surprised. And yeah, Great review! I agree with most of your points. It was cool to hear your opinion. Sorry to hear about cinema problems while watching, but congrats on free tickets.
The pandemic effected how movies were made a released during the past 2 years, let's not blame disney for releasing luca and turning red on disney plus , cause helping curb people from going to the movie theaters was so much more important, and still is
I saw this on the disney+ menu yesterday and was like “wait. Since when has this existed?” They literally didnt advertise this movie’s existence at all.
honestly i rlly rlly enjoyed this movie. i didnt see it coming at all that the whole world would be a huge turtle there were a few parts that were mid but still
i saw this movie in theatres with my family, and i thought it was good. not amazing, but more like.. a cozy movie you can sit down and relax with. the environments are gorgeous, and it's a great representation of what animation can do. the plot is simple, which isn't a detriment at all. the "old sci-fi movie" aesthetic is great. but the writing could be better and the movie suffered from lack of marketing.
I'm a huge nerd and big fan of speculative biology and stuff (Even though it turned out not to have any speculative biology in it at all as the plot twist revealed) so I was HYPED to see this movie... I was pretty disappointed... it wasn't bad but it really wasn't good either... the reveal was cool imo, and I loved the representation shown... but despite traveling everywhere in the movie it honestly felt like nothing happened lol
My dad and I decided to watch it recently since we never watched it in the theaters. So when it came to Disney+, we did watch it. But in the first 15 minutes, we instantly fell asleep. So we turned it off and watched Waterboy lol
here in costa rica theyre selling it like crazy, ive been getting ads a lot lately about it and i have only just realized that this is what u were talking about lol
@@Mister_RandomGuychannel Well, that's your opinion on two films that both won Best Animated Feature at the Oscars and one film that is on the consideration list.
*Spoiler alert* 4:55 the monsters look like that because they're inspired by cells and different stuff we have in our bodies (or rather the giant turtle had in it's body), so for example the tentacle monsters the main characters were chased by were probably supposed to be white blood cells (since they fight off foreign cells from our bodies). So the whole world is basically intestines So imo they've done quie a good job, but I get what you mean, it's hard to make intestines look really interesting lol
Going off of the video title, idk about that one, I saw plenty of promotions all over the city, it was on video billboards, sides of buses, RU-vid banner ads and website ads, it was promoted for sure. I see a lot of people saying they didn’t advertise it but they did
i saw an ad for this movie once when i was in a theater so i thought it was like coming out in like a while, like i was shocked when you said it already came out??
I am planning to watch strange world, from what I heard, it kinda forgot about its main plot? I dislike when movies do that but I will still watch it! Amazing video btw!!
@@IrieTheGreat Look I'm working on something called the Pixar Heroes Universe (PHU). All I have to do put these on a date where there's no Marvel, Star Wars on so that way it could become a hit.
