according to Disney, any red headed character is black or brown. I won’t be surprised if in a couple of years they make a Brave live action where Meredith is black 💀
People say create original POC characters but never realize that those new characters don’t sell tickets. There’s a reason why we have so many reboots, it’s because the IP is so recognizable fans of the brand and story will go see it. Sometimes really good movies with great critic reviews don’t even sell because the characters are just not popular enough. In the movie industry it’s not just about making movies, there’s money involved. And when you think about it from a business perspective, placing a 200 million dollar budget into characters that have little to no fan base is insane lmao. There’s movies that are flopping now that have fans, imagine creating one without any. It’s just not easy. We need representation, this is the closet thing we’re gonna get to it because at the end of the day they wanna get paid.
The reason why Disney has made so many live action remakes of their most beloved animated movies is because it takes a long time to make an animated movie. Live action takes a a shorter amount of time to film because with animation there’s so much behind the scenes of writing the story, character design, voice casting, voice acting, if singing is involved, then what type of music is the movie gonna have? Etc. So naturally, Disney is just buying time until the next big hit animated movie comes out. Plus they work with Pixar, and sometimes projects change so much that they have to push back the deadline for the movie. Otherwise your gonna get a half assed movie. 😅 Same goes for all the tv shows Disney does on Disney+ , half of them will only have one season because they are churning out more garbage shows vs the golden shows. Like the VFX team is getting their asses handed to them at this point they can’t keep up with the demand of live action movies, tv shows, animated movies or animated shows and so on. So yeahhh Disney’s in a weird spot at the moment and hopefully they bounce back soon.
You know the animated series Thinkerbell? Well, this Thinkerbell looks a lot like that sun fairy from the Thinkerbell group (I forgot her name) She's just missing her sunflower dress. This is not my Thinkerbell. II'm sorry, I mean no disrespect to the actress I'm sure she is a talented and amazing women, but she just doesn't look like Thinkerbell. She doesn't even give her wibe.
@curs3s Same here. I don't ususaly care about disney remakes that much, but this is an exception because the Thinker Bell I grew up with was blonde, white and had blue eyes. This is honestly an offense because when I was litle, I LOVED Thinker Bell and her group of friends.
Did you not see that bullshit with Hugh Jackman and Emily, white as me, Blunt playing Tiger Lily ten years ago? Disney has been biting their thumb at the lost boys for years. Baffling to see this new turn, though. Feel free to never watch the movie i referenced, it deserves to die.
At this point im not even surprised. Its become disney’s MO to take an old ip, recreate it in live action, and make the mc black in order to garner outrage, which promotes their product for them. Then, when it gets criticized for being an obvious lazy cashgrab, they have the allmighty shield of “oh, youre racist if you dont like this”. Im more surprised that people are still paying to watch this shit in theaters
