Disney/Lucasfilm, maybe it's finally time to hear out the fans disappointed with Star Wars 

No, I really think the strategy of calling their fans bigots, ists and phobes is working.

“Lucas-film maybe it’s finally time to listen to the fans”. At this point man, we all know they’ll never listen to us or any legitimate writer lol 😂. They’re stubborn/foolish. They’ve proven that multiple times. Nothing can fix the Disney timeline now.

I used to love Star Wars, I used to love finding out there was a new game or a new book coming out. I'm one of the only people I know who played Gungan Frontiers. But I don't care about Star Wars anymore. I didn't watch a single trailer for The Acolyte, I didn't watch a single episode. I don't know, nor do I care what the show is about. Star Wars lost me when they decided that nothing mattered. Lore didn't matter, sacrifices and lost lives didn't matter, wounds from weapons, the void of space. None of it mattered. Star Wars just feels like Marvel with different paint. And that's not a knock on Marvel, Comics are different, those are SUPER Heroes. Star Wars was just supposed to be Heroes, and the Hero's Journey. And sometimes heroes lose, and sometimes they lose enough to die. Sometimes the bad guy wins and new heroes need to arise. Many heroes need to undertake their own journeys. And we see the same heroes over and over again being "developed" into superheroes instead of being the humble, vulnerable, flawed but heroic characters we came to know and love.

And so my apathy towards Star Wars is complete. I have seen Disney mess up so much that I don't really care about anything they put out any more. I'm more interested in other peoples' responses to what is made than I am what Disney makes themselves. It will take consistent good releases to pull me back in, and Disney evidently does not care to do that.

I’ve been going through Better Call Saul again with a friend of mine, and when I watch it, I can feel the care and the meticulous work everyone put into the show. I’m not comparing genres, so don’t try and say it isn’t fair to compare them. My point (which goes in line with what you said with fans having high expectations) is that I want that level of care to go into a Star Wars project. I want it to be great. And Disney has all the resources it needs to hire people and give them the time to make something truly amazing. And what we’ve gotten has ranged to… pretty good to bad. I find Mandalorian to be decent enough and Andor to be good (though not the masterpiece that everyone else has said; I should watch it again) but other then that, nothing has impressed me that much or I’ve avoided on purpose. There are also the comparisons that people made to Dune II, which is a more than fair comparison. Denis Villeneuve has said he’s always wanted to adapt Dune, and that passion comes through clearly; including his respect for Frank Herbert. I don’t feel that with many of these Star Wars projects. Star Wars can be great. But it often isn’t. Get rid of the activists writers, stop trying to make it a girl brand, and stop blindly accusing everyone who shows dissent with being something horrible. The EU, despite its continuity issues, at least feels like they were stories made with love.

From being almost universally loved in 1977 to almost universally hated in 2024 tells me that something has changed at least.

What makes you, me or anyone else think that "yeah they'll start listening now"? They've made it pretty clear, they'll double down at all costs.

There are people so angry that it doesn’t matter what Lucasfilm does. Even before it comes out they already hate it. They’re going to hate it because Lucasfilm not only ignores them, but allows its employees to mock fans and call them horrible people for not liking their products. The PR move of ignoring criticism and blaming customers dissatisfaction with -isms has not worked, and only made things worse.

On the bright side, nothing has united the fan base like The Acolyte in a very long time.

Wait…”maybe now is time to listen”? That ship sailed and sunk. The only way fans will be willing to give this franchise another chance is if it’s made by someone else entirely. The mouse and crew have made an enemy out of those that kept this franchise afloat during all the years that nothing new was made. Even conversations about star worse are hard to get through without falling asleep.

Disney needs to either sell the franchise or let it sleep for AT LEAST 10 years. The mando movie will break even at best, and the Rey movie will most likely flop. It is over.

SW isn't growing. The numbers are going down. Younger fans are watching other stuff and older fans have stopped or just become apathetic towards the franchise. Most discussions involving modern SW is culture war stuff and actual SW stuff is rarely ever discussed. Its a mess. We'd need a thanos snap level event to fix the damage.

I will be watching the irredeemable decline of Filoni and Kennedy's careers with great interest. Nothing less is demanded and required.

9:50 You hit it right on the head. I don't know if anyone younger than 18 or even younger than 14 is really into Star Wars at this current moment. Star Wars had it's crowd in the 80s and 00s respectively. With that number getting shorter and shorter in the 10s and 20s. I asked my son, who will be 7 at the end of the month, if he liked Star Wars and he told me yes, but he didn't go into the specifics of characters or weapons or ships, etc. He just broke it down as a space movie with spacecraft and robots (my son is also autistic). But if I were to ask him about Thomas The Train or Dinosaur Train he could break them down like he created the shows himself. Which is way different from when I was his age. I lived and breathed Star Wars, which shows in my life today (if you look at my profile picture, I have a toy version of Anakin's lightsaber on my waist - I was 22 in this picture.)

The Acolyte episode 3 is basically the straw that broke the camels back for a lot of people.

As a Marvel and Star Wars fan, I'm so tired of culture wars, I just want Disney to go back to making good entertainment. The rot is so deep in this company that I don't know if it's possible without a complete clean of house. Marvel has it's chance...I have no faith in Star Wars at this time though.

At first I only blamed Disney and the showrunners and writers. But now I believe 50% of the blame lies with the defenders of the shows. Thier low standards have made this garbage acceptable in Disneys eyes. Had we all risen up together we would have not suffered any poor content after the sequel trilogy. Anyone who defended the Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker or any of the bad Disney plus shows, you ate just as much the problem. Blame by proxy. Shame on you.

I used to be a fan of some Disney SW content (primarily the early seasons of Mandalorian, SW Rebels, Bad Batch, etc.). The animated shows actually had a lot of adult-oriented ideas while still holding up for all ages. Even after the recent sequel trilogy, I wanted Disney to do well with SW. However, it's more than evident that Disney doesn't care anymore. They had no direction for the sequel trilogy, and the actors hated how their characters were depicted. Acolyte had writers and actors who didn't even know the prequels. They gave up on Mando Season 3, and it feels like Disney's goal is to devalue Star Wars at this point, possibly for stock reasons, as other franchises were poorly received. The genuine issue is that Disney never goes back to address its past problems and only blazes forward, leaving a vast road of potholes. Instead of addressing the sequel trilogy's issues, they push forward with Episode 10. The sheer utter disconnect with the majority of its fanbase is just one of many problems. At this rate, Disney will likely sell SW off in a few more years and "decanonized" by the new owner(s). They aren't selling their toys, and the profit-to-cost ratio is only showing that Disney is bleeding money for it. I find it interesting. SW Legends feels like they accomplished so much. In the course of +20 years before Disney, there were acres of books, content galore, tons of video games, and numerous ideas that flourished. With George Lucas recently discussing what he originally had planned, it almost sounded like the original EU was going to be the sequel trilogy. So, I give up. I think Heir to the Empire was fantastic storytelling. I think Shadows of the Empire and the Bane trilogy were amazing. I enjoyed the stories and played the video games. You had numerous writers who did their best to respect the source material and adhere to George Lucas's wishes when they made them. We don't know how much longer before Disney decides to sell off SW for good. For those that have the original books, preserve them for the future.

Your question about the comparison between HoTD and Star Wars’ difference in writing is easy to answer: it’s because shows like HoTD have a well defined story already written by a competent writer, the Hollywood writer’s are limited to the amount of agenda they can add to already established characters and plots. In stories like acolyte they start with an agenda, characters and plot arcs are explicitly written to fulfil a DEI quota, they emphasise and give more importance to being an ‘activist’ than respecting the established lore by writing a well thought out logical story that the core fan base would like. They care more about a small minority of people who believe in the agenda rather than the majority of fans who only care about the story and are not interested in their activism. I am sure if they didn’t already have a plot for HoTD from GRRM’s work and had to write it on their own it would have been as bad if not worse than GOT season 7-8.

Peeps always say ‘you can’t just an episode on its own’, but if you get a really good episode and everyone loves it, then apparently you can do exactly that.

In my Opinion, one of the biggest problems with modern writing and Disney's writing in particular is the "twist villain" trope they keep shoving in everything. So much so that we expected it in this show with the marketing but instead we are getting "the Jedi were the villain all along" sort of twist. Which is pretty much the same thing. But overall I think that this king of storytelling hurts the rewatchability of a story and is not fit for Star Wars.

More substantively, Disney SW is currently where Kurtzman Star Trek has been for a while. ...both are still not as bad as Doctor Who currently is (or Nurse What, as it's being called in certain circles).

Hey Thor, the problem is that these opinions don't matter. Current Hollywood assumes (and its right on that) that fans will watch the content regardless of quality. Current Hollywood just wants to make more money so fans are taken for granted and the focus is the new mythical "modern audience" that makes noise in news outlets and twitter. we have to understand that we are not the priority and that the focus is a different group. Hollywood needs to make more content to make more money that is the beginning and end of it.

Star Wars isn’t about good story telling anymore, it hasn’t been for a good while. Pushing a political message is the main focus, and Disney doesn’t care how far they will go to push said message. What we are seeing is the equivalent to the zombie ant fungus, it’s controlling our franchise but what it truly being presented is a virus infecting a dead corpse, Star Wars that we loved and cherished is dead. The Acolyte won’t be the worst instalment, it will just get worse and worse. The last glimmer of hope which was Luke in Mando season 2 is truly gone.

There aren't too many methods for the fanbase to publicly show their opinions and feelings in a condensed form, just a single numerical score (RT) and in the light of Disney's marketing and generally antagonistic and divisive approach to the fans, it's not surprising that the fans are going to react and give their impression in return.

They never should have stopped listening to the fans.

The franchises we have grown to like have become destroyed. Not by people who are lazy or incompetent or just trying to make a quick buck. They are being destroyed by people who have a seething contempt for the source material and all the fans that appreciate it.

The issue is most polls don't reflect the quality of the show itself. They reflect dislike for Disney, dislike for the show creator's comments, dislike for an overall agenda, and minds that were already made up by various youtube creators. Most people who've actually watched it simply say its just ok, and that's where I'm at. The show itself is not worth this level of attention being thrown at it. Its really just an average show with a few interesting moments.

Maybe Disney should save some money. Or just stop trying. For at least a decade.

Star Wars is more cooked than Vader on Mustafar. Period. Instead of listening to South Park, they double downed on everything, paid off Rotten Tomatoes critics and invited RU-vidr shills like Star Wars Explained and Kyle Katarn to Lucasfilm to promote The Acolyte, which has greatly backfired. Calling the critics bigots, ists, and phobes turns us away even more. It has a 15% fan score on RT now. 15%! Also, Favreau was behind the success of the first 2 Seasons of The Mandalorian, and Dave Filoni is a complete fraud who has supported this. Just do some research on Filoni’s wife, and you’ll understand everything. It’s just LOTR/Tolkien, One Piece, and Dragon Ball for me these days. Sold about 3/4 of my Star Wars merchandise in the past year.

Is it my fault for giving up after Obi-Wan? That show was embarrassing. I'm just not f'ing watching a Star Wars product anymore. I turned off Rise of Skywalker halfway through. I don't do that even with non-Star Wars movies. And I'm a die hard fan. I BBQ'd with my beloved Darth Vader tongs last night.

Activists entertainers taking control of a long established IP to score settle with their modern day philosophical opponents, who also happen to be a large percentage of the IP’s fan base. What could possibly go wrong. And how would these activists entertainers react to Andrew Tate directing the next Barbie movie. That’s why you end up with a 15% Rotten Tomatoes score.

I personally haven’t enjoyed the writing in The Acolyte. It’s been pretty bad and nonsensical. There also seems to be a gap in skills. Many involved in the production of the show just don’t have the experience. If someone enjoyed it, that’s awesome. Enjoy the content you enjoy. Personally speaking, Disney and Lucasfilm need to be cleaned up. In any other business, if you spend $4B on an IP and are still $2.8B short of breaking even over a decade later, would have been fired already. As an aside, calling the fans various names is just poor business. The people that consume your content/product are what pay for this stuff to be created. If fans stop watching, money will eventually dry up. Biting the hand that feeds is a poor strategy.

We were having this conversation a decade ago, while you were busy supporting Disney's terrible decisions. Maybe if fewer people blindly supported Disney's trash ten years ago, we'd be watching quality Disney Star Wars today.

12 years have passed. Twelve freakin years since George Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney, and they keep on doing the same things, ignoring fans, and aim at a non-existent market. Sure, there were some good / med exceptions like Andor, or even Rogue One, but most of the movies and tv series was just bad. At this point they've just lost fans. People are not even angry anymore, they are either laughing on the stupidity, or are indifferent. That is literally the worse situation for a company, when people are just indifferent, because they expect that your productions are gonna be garbage. At this point it would take a solid trilogy of movies to win fans back. Not one, not even two movies, but a full trilogy, because even after two good movies at this point the distrust towards Disney would be so big, that we would just assume that they will make a bad third movie.

But after the last years of content I dont care about StarWars anymore. I hate to sound like a broken record,but we are witnessing the deconstruction of George Lucas' vision of Star Wars. It all started with the "new" direction Disney asserted upon purchasing the IP. It always amazes me the mass amounts of discussions by George on what Star Wars is,& the nature of the Force purposely dismissed by some fans,but more the ones in the creative positions to make content. SW is changing from good & evil to moral ambiguity reflecting our current society . The Sequels were just the beginning to destroy the Skywalker Family,the Acolyte is the catalyst to destroy the mystery of the Force,& the true ways of the Jedi. The irony is the same people like Leslie Headland,Rian Johnson,& Kathleen Kennedy praise George Lucas in one breath,only to spit in his face by not adhering to the core foundations of SW firmly set by George. In other words,they fully understand the rules put in place but choose to go against them willingly to recreate SW in their own image,& this is why the fans are enraged & divided. I have tried to convince those on this channel,even Thor himself of where SW is heading,& I hope those who bother to read this,understands exactly what's happening in real time...

If you remove the Star Wars elements it’s still a really poorly written show. Never mind them desecrating the lore and history of Star Wars. The hardcore fans are not hard to please. 1) stop disrespecting what came before 2) create well written scripts that are in line with the history and lore. 3) stop the identity politics. Star Wars was very diverse before Disney. 4) stop blaming the fans because we don’t like it. Blanketing the male fan base all the terrible names they can come up with will never help them. There is always a negative element in every single group. Trying to use them to disregard real criticism is disingenuous.

I'm sorry, did Lesley Hedland really say she was trying to make a Star Wars "Rashomon?" It explains why that whole "it's not about good or evil, it's about power" trope. But someone like Lesley Hedland can't make a film like Rashomon because that would require seeing from multiple points of view. I don't think we're going to see this witch-coven portrayed as anything other than oppressed, objectively good victims of the Jedi, because the witch-coven are full of people like her, and therefore objectively good.

If I had seen the poll, (and mind you, I Never see the polls,) I would have said: I have not seen the show, -but plan to watch a Fanedit of the show whenever someone makes one. I think so far I've seen enough Fanedits to know they are mostly Superior to Anything Disney does, in total. If Disney wanted to fix some stuff, they should have Faneditters on that🤷‍♀️

Lucas made Star Wars to entertain and inspire. Disney makes Star Wars to subvert expectations and to indoctrinate kids into feminist and LGBTQ philosophies. It’s sad, because I really loved the OT as a kid. Loved sharing the prequels with my kids. But Disney Star Wars has gone somewhere ideologically that I just can’t follow.

I don’t care about their social commentary, I don’t even care much about their sticking the the lore (within reason), what I care about is that any given movie or show makes sense within itself. I am instantly taken out of media when it lacks internal consistency and imo it is the most blatant and easily noticed/addressed problem with bad writing. DONT have a character say “you can’t deny I have the right to test your children, with your permission.” That sentence makes no sense within itself. DONT have a character under suspicion of committing a crime then show the character on board a spaceship with no way to hide the craft used in conjunction with the crime aka with a rock solid alibi yet have no recognition of this by the investigating characters. DONT have a character say they saw someone die then turn around and have them immediately accept that someone is alive based on another character dreaming it. Like just have things make sense! Have characters make decisions that make sense based on the knowledge they have rather than what the plot needs them to do. It’s clunky, it’s lazy, it’s amateurish. I have no idea how these big properties are allowing this sort of writing to go unchecked and unedited. First Draft Wars. Honestly so pathetic.

Nothing against people who enjoy the show, but the truth is that the show is not good. There is room to improve in perspekt of storytelling, but as a SW show its bad for the community. Most clearly its not good to flirt with Anakin not being special, people are scared of what they will do (Examples of not so good portrayal: Han, Luke, Obi'wan, Boba, Mando s3)

Disney is proof that throwing tons of money at something doesn't make it good... Passion, creativity, inspiration, and (of course) quality control is what makes good products _good._ NOT the budget.

Some.of these extreme youtubers (doomcock, nerdrotic etc) should shoulder some of the blame. They gave Disney and all the defenders a target to shoot at. They gave the rest of us fair critics a bad name by acting as bad as they do.

This is probably the first Star Wars series I will skip watching. It looks like it will be waste of my time. I compare this series to Star Trek Discovery which I have only watched the second season in full. I never finished the first season and watched the third season premiere. The writing and storytelling just sucks, and it appears The Acolyte has the same issues. Like you said about Andor, DEI was presented in the series but no one complained because the storytelling was priority and incredible. DEI is in your face with Discovery and it looks the same with the Acolyte, and storytelling is not priority.

Haven't watched a single episode. Was going to today. Not sure now. Maybe when the whole thing is out.

No. No the people saying how bad acolyte is now were not episode per episode singing the praise of Andor. Barely anyone watched andor. People are going ep by ep about the acolyte. The same did not happen with andor, a lot of people ignored it

I think the shows reception wouldn't have turned out as bad if the press tour and weekly response from the studio wasn't making their stance and intent clear. If they had just talked about the show and it's characters and then remained silent while the show released. That may have changed things. Episode one and two would have gotten flak for the writting, but more people would be on board and watching. The origin of the twins, that they are implying at the moment, and how they've painted the Jedi so far... If the studio had stayed silent instead of the news we've been seeing, I think more people would be willing to see what reveals they might have in the back half. To see if they walk it back to a place where they at least aren't cheapening the events of the chosen one prophecy and the significance of Anakin/the Skywalker line. I also agree releasing all at once would have been best for this project. Having these events linger for a week at a time when they currently seem this jarring to the foundation of the original series. It's doing alot more damage than if we had the shock in one night, but also understood where it was leading to if we had 2 more hours to spare to watch two episodes.

Hey Thor, what are your thoughts on Star Wars truly expanding way beyond its foundations? I don’t just mean creating new stories that introduce new elements, but a Star Wars show or film that either tells a completely new story (completely devoid of any intentionally familiar elements from the Original Trilogy) or a Star Wars story that may pull elements from other parts of the franchise except for the OT itself. Because some interesting complaints I have heard from a lot of fans (usually older ones or fans who I personally put in the category of: films fans who admire the Original Trilogy as films but don’t really revere the franchise outside of that) are usually about how different a lot of these recent SW Projects are compared to the OT, whether it be in terms of broad strokes like the way the stories are told or what kind of stories are being told or smaller details like the visuals or certain stylistic elements from the Original Trilogy that haven’t particularly been carried over to the more recent stories. Personally, what I certainly have my problems with a lot of these shows, I can’t say any of those complaints were one of them, maybe it’s because I have consumed a lot of SW (both new and old) to the point where I don’t really see Star Wars as just the Original Trilogy anymore but in all honesty, all I really care about are good, well written stories with interesting characters, solid worldbuilding and some form of internal consistency within said world.

Could you imagine if people had to wait a week between Fallout episodes? There would've been countless videos questioning what they would be doing, people would be calling Episode 6 boring and slow, and it would've ruined the viewing experience for anyone that had the desire to know what happens next immediately. Instead, they dropped it all in one go and let people watch at their leisure, so when the bingers watched it immediately and relayed the message that it was a good show, it pushed more and more people to watch it through word of mouth. That 100% made a huge impact on the success and positive reception of Fallout. Star Wars needs to learn from this

i have to say that sometimes you are way to polite and kind in your choice of words when you consider the current low point of the franchise and the constant massive amount of damage caused by those responsible and we must ask the question why they hate us, the fans so much

Unoriginal as it was, I really liked The Force Awakens (still do). It was a good start for a compelling and intriguing story that sadly got shot to pieces by Rian J. in The Last Jedi. Rogue One was good, the start of The Mandalorian was good, even Boba Fett had a good start with the first two episodes. Andor is great, but it went (steeply) downhill towards the end of Boba Fett, the firing of Gina, the sh*t show that was Kenobi... Ashoka is kinda lackluster as well, but somehow I enjoyed it. And now there is The Acolyte.. There is just no defending it. It really is that bad. Watching the Star Wars Explained RU-vid channel now has become a total cringe. I've never seen such bad acting, storytelling, directing, cinematography and horrible agenda pushing come together in such a costly production, ever. It's so sad to experience this. Back in the days, movies and series were made as a passion project. Certainly Star Wars started as such, but those days are long gone...
