There was talk that the Disney+ streaming service might get sold off if they can't make proper audience margins soon. Amen brother. I have a Crunchyroll and HiDive subscription. But I refuse to pay Disney a single dime. Every show Disney aquires, I watch on pirated streaming sites.

Fan translation? Like where? most of it is just rips from CR, Disney+ or HiDive? The only fan sub group that still exists that does somewhat proper translations are Chihiro and they don't do every show. Rom & Rem fansub group doesn't redo the translations from streaming sites. They only restore honorficis (like -chan, -kun, -sama, -dono). There needs to be more proper fan sub groups (that don't use AI). I remember the days of Hatsuyuki fansubs, Shinsen Subs, Soldats, Rice-box fansubs, AnbuOne, which by he way are all dead groups. Those days are long gone. No one wants to put in effort to fan subbing anymore. It's hard to compete with streaming. Plus without financial support directly to the studios and animators in Japan, large western companies will continue to spread their money and influence to try to directly censor things at the source. It's a lose lose situation. There only saving solution I can see is that Sony Entertainment gets hit with an anti-trust and monopoly lawsuit and is forced to be broken up. They own too much of the western anime market. Like 99% now. And Disney has somehow managed to avoid monopoly lawsuits. While Disney is a popular brand in Japan we need to be vigilant against them. But if we want to keep anime from being in a game over situation, there needs to be an anti-trust and monopoly lawsuit take against them like how Microsoft had to be broken up back in the 90s. Sony now owns Funimation, Crunchyroll, Rightstuff, Aniplex USA, AniMedia. They are a fucking monopoly and discourage competition. The market is super unhealthy right now. There used to be 5 players back in the day. Geneon, Viz, Funimation, ADV(Now Hidive/Sentai Filmworks), Media Blasters. Now there only exists 3 companies that license anime in the west and 2 are on production committees in Japan. Those are Disney, Sony and Sentai Film Works(HiDive). I didn't mention Netflix since they rarely license series as a third party anymore and mostly fund production of series they wish to bring over, and Amazon has put anything into the anime game for a while. Disney+ and Sony have executive seats now in production committees for anime studios. It's not good.

I"ll be host, part of gatekeeping this industry means to hit dubs as well. Anime only got more mainstream in the west because of dubs, and that's what is making these idiotic higher-ups think there are "modern audiences" to be considered. It's not Disney that needs to be bullied. They are immune to it. Japan and their animators/mangaka are not. Their environment is already a difficult one to work in, so if we make them feel less supported and see less money, they'll be more likely to avoid working with the West. It's harsh, but they're the weak link that should be abused.

I happen to have the complete series for “To Love Ru”. And I too have been rewatching it lately. I was never once bothered by ecchi/harem genre anime during my first run of the series. It has in some ways put a special place in my heart. By the way, “To Love Ru” was never meant to be taken seriously. It's really tough isn't it. I hate that anime is mainstream but I don't want to revert so far back to the days where I was bullied and ostracized by my peers (peers are not friends by the way) and family members for watching anime. I like sharing my hobby with other, but only if it doesn't turn into hivemind mainstream thought.

Anime becoming more mainstream means there's a bigger market for manga, which means we get a ton of licenses now that no company would have bothered with years ago. There are drawbacks sure, but it's a good time to be an anime fans

Yeah I mean ecchi was good when I was young but its a phase many anine fans go through.

I've noticed it to like the latest season of Konosuba feels less horny then the last two.

I remember when almost every anime had panty shots, even the non ecchi ones. Now panty shots are an endangered species. Most ecchi anime don't even have them. I'm also seeing more and more ecchi were they'll show the girl's boobs, but she has no nipples. Children are going to starve! Some ecchi will come out with uncensored version for the blu ray. But more and more aren't even bothering with that. Despite the censorship trend, there have been a few recent anime ecchi that still really push the lines. If you haven't watched them already, go watch "interspecies Reviewers" and "Gushing Over Magical Girls." They did not pull any punches on those anime.
