In today's vlog we head to Disney's Animal Kingdom because we haven't been in a while and wanted to see what's new! We tried some of the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary treats, checked out the golden character statues and talked about Disney Genie, Genie+ and Lightning Lane, which is coming to the park super soon. All of these changes and additions that Disney keeps developing to the parks makes it very frustrating and confusing for a lot of guests. You spend so much time having to research, plan your day, then switch your plans due to unseen circumstances causes so much stress on the average person before they even step foot into a Disney park. Long gone are the days of strolling around to discover things for yourself, one line per attraction without figuring out return times or reservations. But…where there’s a buck to be made, Disney is going to jump at the opportunity.

I honestly think the new lightning lane/genie system is only made confusing and complicated by the naming. Genie, Genie+, Lightning Lane and also Lightning Lane but paid per attraction.

I really don't think anything about Genie+/Lightning Lane is THAT confusing. The only reason people are having trouble with it is because it's a brand new system with a lot of information and no one has it in their hands yet. Once it actually comes out people will realize it's simpler than it seems. 😅

Fully agree-- for some reason, Disney tends to do a really poor job of naming things. It's odd, because a company with such great marketing and branding can just... never seem to figure out a better way to go about this stuff. They pick terrible names, and name things really similarly as well, which just confuses guests.

I think the Genie thing is BS sorry for the language but spending more time on my phone while in vacation and waking early to book rides is not what i have i mind when thinking vacations……and not mentioning spending more $. I think WDW miss it…..especially when they said they listen at us. But hey this is my opinion for what’s it worth.

It is! It's very bad show! Did you hear the people cheering near Tim whenever it landed? They weren't there to watch the wonder of the show, they were there to cheer on the trainwreck.... or.... kitecrash that is this particular show's execution. You could just tell it in the way they cheered- it was a very sarcastic tone.

Disney has made this whole fast pass business waaay to complicated. I love going to Universal paying a set amount on express pass and knowing I'm going to hop right on so extra drama.

I think I'd be nervous to go to Disney now. The whole thing with passes and packages and lightning lanes is so complex, it actually puts me off.

Simple answer? Honestly? DON'T buy the lightning lane. If no one buys it, the wait times will be still "low" and it will show Disney that they don't need to squeeze every penny out of us! You can EASILY do a park (even when they had free fastpasses that got way out of hand) without skip-the-line passes and still have a GREAT time! You just need to be shrewd and make a flexible "plan" before you get there of maybe 3 to 5 "must do" options and then everything else is just "bonus". Honestly, even in all the times I've been there, I've never waited in a line that is longer than 80 minutes, unless it was something I REALLY wanted to do and it was less than 120min. The ONLY rides I'd "worry about" not getting to ride are Rise of the Resistance and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. But even then, Seven Dwarfs PALES in comparison to the wait times Rise can reach. Rise is better ridden FIRST thing or LAST thing during your day. Hopefully Genie+ and Lightning Lane hasn't skewed that.... But also, always remember, the wait times are often inflated. So if it says 80min wait, you might only end up waiting 60.... You'll RARELY wait longer than posted, unless you happen to come when there's a rush of people also getting in line because it says a ride is a low wait time.

I feel like this genie plus stuff is supposed to be really confusing so people who don’t know how the parks work will spend a ton of money that they don’t need to. Just very sad greedy play on Disney’s part.

Thinking they have to pay a ton of money just to get on the rides when they can just do standby. Disney already makes a lot of money. Confusing guests who don’t know better is kinda a scummy move in my opinion. But again people can disagree with me. I just know I had to explain this to family who don’t go often and they are very confused and it’s hard to explain it to them. There’s just so many different versions and tiers.

@@Precariousplatypus23 this is why I do my research. I personally don’t find it difficult to understand the differences between Genie, Genie+, Lightning Lane and Individual Attraction Selection. I do agree there will be people that don’t know better who haven’t done much research prior to going. I was one of those people 10 years ago. There are soooooo many more resources now adays.

On November 19th, Disney will include all of the restrooms at Disney World & Disneyland to be a Lightning Lane so if you need to use the restrooms then you have to pay extra every time also all quick service & sit down restaurants will be part of Lightning Lane.

I’ve given up trying to do the math and understanding of this new system. To me it sounds like your paying for admission to a carnival(Disney park in this case) and then paying for tickets for the rides(attractions 🙄) on top of that. No way I can see this as faster than the older freei-sh option 🙄

No, you don't HAVE to pay for genie+, you can still wait in standby. It's exactly the same as any other theme park's purchasable "skip the line" passes except instead of going whenever you want to skip the lines (like most theme parks have), they are regulating it by return times and one-turn-per-ride rules.

I really want to say thank you for showing the shows. Not being at a theme park in ages I always loved going to shows in theme parks. I haven’t been to a theme park in ages. Oregon doesn’t have a big theme park so it is nice to see peoples vlogs of theme parks.

Be wary of posted wait times. I was there last week and every attraction’s wait was about half of what’s posted. Seems like they’re inflating wait times to incentivize people to buy Lightning Lane.

I hope Disney eventually tells you what Genie+ rides are still available prior to purchasing Genie+. I guess it'll take a lot of bad social media rants and bad MSM press from folks who paid the $15 only to discover they just paid $15 to see A Bug's Life or similar lower tiered ride before they fix it, or folks just stop buying it.

But its like the old paper fast pass system except on your phone. You cannot prebook rides days before so its more likely you can actually get rides. If you book something late at night you cannot get another one so its more likely that they would have LL inventory most of the day. Not letting people re-ride via LL a million times might also help. I remember getting a Rocking Roller Coast paper FP back in the day late in the evening so why wouldn’t this be different. The issue with FP+ is all of the good ones were gone before your trip even started.

@@tarac.1911 If you are not staying on property then you are at a disadvantage. Guests staying on property can book from 0700 on the day others have to book on park opening. You might just find out at peak times there are no fastpasses, sorry Geinie+, reservations left for more popular attractions by the time the park opens.

My birthday is October 2nd. I considered going down for the weekend, but sharing a birthday weekend with Disney was nice but too scary to attempt 😜😬. I went to Epcot for Food & Wine, and have been craving the braised beef poutine near Canada. It was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in the parks. I’ll be heading there when the parks calm down a tiny bit. Happy birthday!

I wish they would have had ride/park icons instead of movie icons.... Like maybe a hatbox ghost, Redd the pirate, Jose from Tiki room, Figment (they have him, I know), Uncle Orville, a small world doll, Mr. Toad, Brer Rabbit, etc. This is the PARK'S 50th, not the movies.... Of course they could have some iconic movie statues, too, but ONLY of the ones that there are rides for (snow white, Cheshire Cat (they have him), buzz lightyear, etc....

I love how, even after decades of frequent Disney visits, that Tim drops everything when Mickey and Minnie come by. Question about Genie: how do you handle your group? Does one fee cover the whole party, etc.

The $15 fee is per person in your party! So if you want it for 3 people, it will cost a total of $45. You are not required to purchase genie+ for every member of your party if only some want to use it though!

I used Lightning Lane on launch day yesterday at MK and my only negative takeaway was once you booked and used your LL access, that ride/attraction still showed on your tip board. So I had to hunt/search down the list to find the things I hadn’t done yet. I wish it would remove the ride/attraction from the tip board once you used LL.

Curious to see how people utilize GP and LL. I would love for people to do a day in the park to find out the best way to use it or if you even need it all. I honestly don't think you need it in AK if you plan the day out right.

Our first day in the parks is Tuesday, I'm looking forward to seeing how the free version works out and may try the paid for like rise and FoP maybe. But I find it crazy that it still hasn't been pushed to the app yet so we can pick our preferences ahead of time. It would make sense to give people at least a few days in the app to see how its going to work and how to navigate it, rather than on Tuesday we all wake up and Disney goes, k have fun! Bye!

2 Questions: Can you only buy genie + for the current day or can you pre-buy for certain days? And if you just want an ala cart ride, can you just purchase that, or do you have to by default, buy genie+ then add on the ala cart option?

The macaw show certainly intrigues me as an Environmental Major. Especially as the Scarlet Macaw, the one you think of the most when the word Macaw is said, is status of "Least Concern." Would love to see actual threatened animals featured and raised awareness of. Like the Spix's macaw which is believed to be extinct, or the Lear's macaw which is status of Endangered by the UN. Idk it just seems like a very shallow show from what we are shown here.

I think the reason Timon was so animated was because he recognized you. I got the feeling he was trying to tell you he loved your channel. Also, does anyone know the price of the a la carte Genie plus?

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think I heard the cost on the individually priced rides will fluctuate. For now it's capped at $14 or $15, something like that. I want to say they will be between $7 and $14 to start with. I forget which channel I heard that on though.

Agreed! You can occasionally see the characters at the different parks gesture to Tim in a way that shows when they recognize him. I actually get a kick out of trying to determine if that’s what they’re trying to say. 😊

Hi Tim! I was wondering if you could do a video on the genie plus/ lightning lane and park hopping. Before Genie Plus, my family and I would make fastpasses for the PM over at Epcot, and go to another park in the morning and try to take full advantage of extra magic hours in the AM. How could we do something like this with Genie Plus?

Is it me…or have the food portions gotten smaller at the parks?? I noticed it when a watched a video from flame tree bbq and they always gives you huge portions for a decently priced meal… now normally I eat small meals at home but when I’m at the parks watching 10-12 miles a day …I need fuel lol…just curios

I will be pregnant on our trip in January- Excited to use genie+ for Festival of the Lion King! I wonder when you can go ahead and add genie + to your reservation? I know you have to wait until day of to make selections.

Do you know if magic kingdom still has then 50th anniversary crocs available. I’ve been trying to buy them but they’ve been sold out online. I have a friend going there next week and was curious if the park still had them available for park visitors.

Is the dining plan back, though? I know Tim has said it is not, but on the website, Disney says you can add it on to your vacation package. Nothing about it being currently put on pause due to the times...
