I live at third world country and now Disney+ has increase their subscription price 4 times higher than normal. Many of us leaving Disney+. Wtf are they thinking?

The main reason Netflix worked was they licensed other peoples content at first. I really don't think anyone can make a profit if they create all their own content for streaming. Add to that the loss in profit caused by skipping or rushing the normal theatrical release and home video market.

All they had to do is have their existing library available at a low price. They got greedy trying to produce new expensive content that flops then rising the price.

Eventually most streaming channels will crumple. Amazon Prime and Netflix will outlast almost everyone else. Due to their business models.

Its sad that a company that was once great and brought fantastic stories and magic to people is dying. But i think its time for it to be laid to rest. Its gotten so far from what walt had done with it and I think he'd be at least dissapointed. The sadder thing is that we as a people cant recognize that peoples visions and dreams and art die with them. Thats why we are were we are with disney.

I'm surprised Disney+ didn't die early because of how bullshit it was, and how all my friends say they'd rather just find ways around the paywall because it was an absolute scam in their eyes, and when I saw this video on it dying I actually cheered. I used to love disney and everything about it, and now I absolutely hate the shell of itself it became because it refused to stay true to what made them magical: Their actual good storytelling, animation, and that they weren't catering to what? 15 people?

The problem with Disney+ isn’t their buisness fundamentals, it’s because Disney (and Hollywood) pandered to a small minority of audience, ruining the “magic” for everyone with their completely dogshit shows.

I don't understand what the issue was with being paid millions every year from Netflix to show their library. They had revenue with no cost in that case, so it was guaranteed to add to the bottom line with no effort.

The limited content didn't really bother me nor did have that many tech problems, what made me cancelled is when the yearly sub I had since 2019, went from $80/yr to $140/yr.

As much as I enjoyed my time with the many movies available at its disposal, there aren’t enough ‘good’ original releases to keep me hooked (plus the absurdly expensive budgets for their recent releases are quite concerning).

I can't help, but to watch Disney+ I don't have cable, but Disney+ has old nostalgic TV shows, and newer shows like Bluey. I hope it doesn't end any-time soon.

Of all times too. Disney+ is the sole way people outside the UK can watch Doctor Who legally after taking the rights from every other platform. We used to be able to watch it for free in Australia on ABC, but now I have to have it so I can keep watching. It's my favourite show and I don't wanna pirate it

I can tell you exactly what went wrong. Disney had complete control of their streaming service. Meaning that everything was going to have the same recipe in terms of movie directing, artistic vision and target audience. It would have made sense for Disney to own a streaming service rather than host its own. (i.e. Disney buys AMC and startups AMC+ which would hosts Disney, 20th Century Fox, Marvel, Hulu only related content, etc.)

Disney is too big to meet an end. A company that survived for 100 years will not go down at any time. They can fail how many times they want, they can make below average movies with bad reception in the theaters and etc. The reality is: It's impossible for Disney to have serious issues as a company, they can face some rough times but they will never end that's for sure.

Here's the thing, I would GLADLY pay $7 a month forever just for access to their classic collection. I dont need the new million dollar content that is barely relevant. If they dont spend millions to produce new content then they maintain profitablity for no work other than maintenance and maybe aquiring distribution rights for shows like Bluey

I think that "Rising the yearly cost from $69.99 a year to now $149.99. That is more then 2x the inflation in just 4 years. That imo is the reason why its dropping. Also Post COVID and new wage income is more difficult. Disney should have a warmer heart and dropped it back to 69.99. Servers are cheaper and more efficient, no excuses on that.

There is nothing on D+ worth watching longterm. If you care that much about certain classic movies, buy them individually, but their original content is trash. Too much agenda pushing and low quality stories.

To me the thing that killed Disney+ was how the service was really only focusing on just a few franchises like Star Wars, Marvel, and maybe The Simpsons. The social aspects as well as the competition and pricing are killing Disney as a whole. I canceled my D+ membership because they increased their prices by over 50%. Streaming itself is fundamentally unsustainable. Netflix only ever got as big as it did because it was an effective monopoly by dint of being the first big player with seemingly everything from everyone. There's a very sound financial reason why back in the day even Disney only had one TV channel on some other company's broadcast: Getting AV in front of people's eyeballs is damn expensive. We WILL wind up with basically cable-TV-for-the-Net. It'll be better because it'll be on demand but still fubdamentally the same construction: creators->distibutors->technicians (TV/smartphone/device manufacturers). The more things change they more they stay the same except even more expensive.

So is there still hope of Disney+ continuing if they somehow manage to make some changes and still try to stay alive?

Disney knew enough to know that they'd have to keep creating content. They got that much right at least. They made that content. The problem is that all of that content was pure and outright shit. Their issue isn't a lack of content, or that "content is expensive"...no, their issue is that the content they produced is wildly and aggressively SHIT. Objectively too, since anyone can look at the numbers and see quite easy that the shows they put out and the movies they released were garbage, with scant few exceptions (I believe that Loki and GOTG 3 were them). Now just imagine if the content they released was actually watchable and absent all of "the message" pandering. D+ wouldn't be hemorrhaging subs AND money. They'd be just fine and still scaling. Disney's issue is the woke mind virus and their insatiable hunger for it. The longer they expose themselves to it, the worse things are gonna get.
