I met Peter Pan last year during my day trip at the magic kingdom. I met Peter earlier in the day and he loved my Disney bound , saying he hopes to meet me at his spot. He took my autograph book (my first one) and said that he loved signing his name on things. We even joked that hook was smelly. Best moment ever
one of my favorite experiences that i remember was in 2011 at disneyland for mickey's very merry christmas party! i was a HUGE nightmare before christmas fan at the time ( and also a very exciteable 12 year old ), and while my family and i were walking around towards the haunted mansion holiday we stumbled on jack skellington and sally! i had a tiny zero plush whose nose lit up, and jack asked me about it and asked to see him light up! i still have that zero btw, he's sitting on one of my shelves
🎶No one signs like Gaston, does his lines like Gaston. No one's pen points are nearly as fine as Gaston's! He's especially good at autographing! My, what a guy, that Gaston!🎶
As a kid I used to love to collect cast member autographs, I still have a couple little books filled with them. Some of my favorites are from cast members who cleaned bathrooms, especially one lady who I would always see cleaning the tiki room bathroom, she was so sweet and I remember her telling me to look for her when DCA opened because she would be working over there. It’s funny because this practice started when I went to DL and it was pouring rain so no character greets so I decided to ask a guy sweeping in toon town, he was so excited and happy that from that day on I only asked them for autographs.
I went to Disney with my mom brother and baby cousin for my sixteenth birthday, and we had a dining experience at the grand floridian. Well we got to meet Minnie, Donald and Goofy, but Mickey wasn’t there. My baby cousin was very upset, so a worker decided to run to the kitchen to ask Mickey to sign it. It made that birthday breakfast just that much sweeter
I honestly didn't expected for Sora of all characters to have a signature in parks, since he was so short lived. Let alone for them to bother even designing a themetic apropiated crown on it. Creativity and detaling that almost no one is gonna see.
I am disabled and I went to Disney as a young adult and every character wanted to give me their autograph and my sister gave me the name of Character Magnet
This is a video I never knew I needed. Thank you Disney Dan for making this video. I still have my first autograph book when I went to Disney world in December 2004. My first autograph was from Pinocchio. It’s one of the reasons Pinocchio is one of my personal favorite Disney characters. Sometimes, I got some of the Disney characters autographs twice in the same book. I also have another autograph book that has the rarest ones I got that were from Bolt, Mittens, and Rhino from Bolt(2008), and Kenai and Koda from Brother Bear. Funny thing is I even used the first book I got to get autographs from characters in Universal Studios like Crash Bandicoot, and the Looney Tunes and Justice League at Six Flags New England. Ahh the memories.
I was a character attendant at WDW in 2005 and I have a signature from every character I worked with and a few extra. Holidays like Valentine day is great because I got couples together like Poca and John Smith, Prince Philip and Aurora, and Milo and Kida from Atlantis. I.also have some of those 'hard to get ones' like King Louis because he was a friend of my roommate's and signed it when he wasn't working one day. 😉
Nostalgia levels on ALL TIME HIGH! I used to have an autograph book on my very first disney trip in my closet but I'm not sure if that's where it really is.
Hey dan and i remember that trash can barely lol. I enjoy you on the charity show with the parades. And i don't do the autographs myself..when i did the disney princesses breakfast at Napa Rosa restaurant. The autographs book came with the meal..but i would had loved walt Disney signature..enjoy your work. I totally enjoy your laughter..
I remember going to Disneyland Paris when I was little and there was no meeting line for a character. you just ran at them with your autograph book and expected them to sign it. they were only around for a couple of minutes before they left. My little sister and I got pushed to the back of the crowed and didn't get anything. I'm so glad that they have a better system nowadays.
Shout out to my super old like really early 2000s autograph book that has some old unseen characters and has chip and dale on two different pages with fun designs before they redid them. Good ol memories
I only have Pooh and Tigger, but I got some from people who work at Disney. I remember one of them asking why I wanted there autograph and I said because your making my day here better and your part of the experience. They laugh and said never thought of that.
Did u know that walt Disney autograph was custom designed for him. Her had to practice it. But this is how he started to already have pre signed cards bc he was asked daily for his signature..
Two notes: 1. I have the exact same book as in the thumbnail 2. I feel like now is a perfect time to bring back Push, because the Cast Member voicing it can use a facemask.
My most memorable autograph is by Mary Poppins. I was about 5 and my sister and I had been watching Mary Poppins on the long drive to the park and I told my grandma that I really wanted to see Mary Poppins and get her autograph. My grandma knew that she wasn't a regular character and let us know that she may not be there while we are. Little did she know that since it was around Valentine's Day, Mary and Bert were exclusive characters that were wandering at the time! We got her autograph and rather than just signing, she drew part of a picture for me and wrote part of a story for my sister that we could fill in the rest of ourselves.
I got an autograph book in 1993 as a small child in disneyworld, I promptly asked for a signature from our waiter at liberty tree tavern. I didn't get it I guess.
One time Goofy dropped my pen down into a gutter and a cast member came up to me a few minutes later with one of their deluxe pens. Super random but something I will never forget!
I have 1 autograph book from 1996. Did it once because my parents probably told me to. Never went back to the MK until I was a teen I had grown out of it [grad night]. Didn't notice them at Animal Kingdom, been there twice. Didn't even think about it the one time I went to Epcot when I performed there, was either on stage or trying to enjoy myself at a park.
My one autograph memory: I was only four years old and my family made (more like forced…) me to get a signature from Captain Hook. He gave me a head-scratch with his hook (hilarious to the adults) and I was terrified! Now it’s a warm memory (just like crying when I saw Madame Leota n HM) because my wonderful grandpa picked me up and hugged me tight.
I’ve had my autograph book for over 10 years, I got it on my first trip to Disney in 2005, and I’ve taken it to every park around the world Ariel has signed it in every park too
You should do an evolution of Sheriff Woody. I discovered just now that back in his early days in the park he used to do "The Stamped Autograph" alongside buzz before he can do his own signature with his hands.
If you havent done one already id love to see a video on Disney pin collecting. I never knew it was a thing untill I went to Disney World a few years back.
My favorite autograph that I have is Gaston's! He was on his way out and signed my book before he left. The signature didn't say his name though, it was just a bunch of scribbles. I love to think that this is perfect for him considering he cannot read or write lol.
what i love about Figment was that i had no book. but i bought a figment based vizor hat. i freaked out cuz i thought Figment was gone and i'm a totally simp for him. so i went ahead and rode journey into imagination. barely any wait time. so when i got out. and between the shop and building exit, i see him! i told the assistant i had no book but she said he can sign anything that had disney on it. sooooooo he was able to sign the bare side of te bill to the hat which is right next to him! i have to do sig maintance due to the sun with a permanent marker, but it's still one of my favorite sigs.
10:35 I can tell you for a fact that you can NOT get random autographs of characters no longer meeting by going to GR. (Also GR has so many other things on their plate.)
I still have my autograph book from 1995 when I was 4. We had a big, thick, fragrant sharpie instead of a pen. Mom said it was easier for the characters to hold. But to this very day, every time I open the autograph book, I get a nostalgic whiff of that discontinued high-inducing permanent marker formula from the 90's. lol
this video made me realize how grateful I am for my 2009 prince caspian autograph and Cinderella error where she just wrote "C" before starting over on a new page lol
My favorite autograph I got was Merida. When she gave me my book back, a strand of her hair got caught in the notebooks spiral. So now I a strand of Merida hair in my procession
My favorite autograph is from Chip by far my favorite experience of who I got to meet. (Besides when I was surprised by Eyeore but that another story for another time lol) We waited a long time for him and almost left without his signature and I was afraid I wasn’t gonna get to meet him. (We went to Goofy’s kitchen at Disneyland and every couple of minutes they do rotations on characters so that you meet everyone by the time you finish your meal) So we got up and let a employee know and about a minute later Chip came running over to our side and the meet and greet started. He was so amazing! I gave him the page that Dale signed I wanted them to sign on the same page and dale signed super small so chip and I hung out and chatted while he signed the page he put lots of acorns and hearts (it’s my favorite page in my sketchbook) and he gave me lots of hugs and kisses (and I mean ALOT lol) and he was the sweetest! By far well worth my wait he was so kind and I had great time. And every time I look on that page I have a goofy smile. (10/10 I recommend Goofys kitchen if the meet and greets ever do go back to normal asks also because it was a buffet. But if it ever goes back to normal do go in and go check it out!)
I wonder if they did autographs for Star Wars weekends and I wonder if you have a video on star wars weekends I never got to go before they stopped doing it 😔
I’m not a big meeting and greet person but when I first went to Disney I did manage to get like snow white sleeping beauty Cinderella and tiger autographs
It's definitely one way they're making money off them books. So it's definitely worth their time to autograph the book since they're making money off those books. Very cool and smart.
I'm afraid of the characters, and don't like lines, so the only two autographs I have are a Disney Dollar signed by Mickey from toontown my parents wanted us all to have one and then 10 or so years later on the first trip I took with my now-husband. It was how we met, that trip, so I figured I'd do something overly special. Was still too scared to talk to Mickey tho.
I actually have one of those autograph books, but I never used it because I never had the opportunity to get a character autograph. That being said, I had this idea in the back of my mind to use that book for celebrity autographs (is that a good idea?)
im dutch and when i was a kid i met goofy and his name is the same in our langauge but the pun of him being goofy didnt work so when he signed his name with abackwards g i didnt understand and when i realized it was way too funny
Love your videos! I actually just uploaded a family vacation video from our 2001 Disney trip. You’re welcome to use the footage if you ever want! Lol not very good camera work (my grandpa) but he did do some cool zooms on the lagoon by ariel’s grotto that show the old 20,000 leagues under the sea stuff still in there it looks like.
I saw a youtube video about how ALL the disney characters have to practice their character's signature over at least 1,000 times a day before the park opens. Talk about hand cramps!!!😥👋💦
I was a kid who lost their autograph book and sobbed in the middle of Main street (on my birthday lol)! A staff member (a photographer I think) approached me and my family and said if we bought a new book they would go around before the parade that night and get all the characters to sign for me, and they completely filled up my book with characters I hadn't even met 🥺Truly the kindest gesture, my family and I were all so grateful!
COOL!!!😆😁 Unfortunately, I was born AFTER the ride was remodeled... and I live in California... AND the only state I've ever been to OUTSIDE of California was Idaho so I could visit my G-ma . . . SO! The only Disney Park I've EVER visited was the Anahiem location...
That is priceless!!!! That was the best version of Figment. He wasn’t obnoxious. He was childlike and pure and filled with wonder.... *sob* and the Dreamfinder was so cool In all his Steampunk Glory. 💜
I think my favorite Disney autograph is Sadness's, because it's the way she should write it. She would start out and the it would get slower and slower and then at the end of it she would draw a tear drop at the end of it. She would follow up with dabbing it on her face to soak up the tears. I love Sadness
Had a very disastrous family holiday to Disneyland Paris when I was 8, however one of the best memories I had from there was an autograph experience. There's rarely any staff accompanying the fur characters in Disneyland Paris, and kids tend to literally swarm them with no queuing system in place. I got shoved very hard by another kid trying to get Chips autograph and cried. Chip stopped to come over to me and flicked my tear away and sign my book before the other kids, which made a really cool experience, made me feel special haha.
I went there in 2007 and again a few years ago. Two completely different experiences. The first time, the characters were walking around and sometimes great (my sister dancing with Tweedledee and Tweedle Dum is still one of my favourite memories) but sometimes chaos. When I went back a few years back, there were orderly queues, and the lines were well staffed. I haven't been to any in America (😭😭😭) as I can't afford to but being in England, its cheaper to go across the channel 😁.
Napkin autographs are fine if you're out in some random restaurant and happen to see some random celebrity there and you have nothing else for them to sign, but I will never understand why you would do that with a Disney character.
My favourite autograph I collected was Snow White, she kissed the paper and left a red lipstick mark. Another favourite was Pluto, when I was little it amazed me to see him balance my autograph book on his nose and sign his name! I said “that was so cool!” To him and he kneeled down to give me a hug! I miss meeting characters so much
I'd love to know who gets to design all these signatures and the thought-processes behind how they get made - they're all so unique and yet they have to be fast and easy for the characters to do hundreds of times a day (with all those gloves, too!) while still talking and holding conversations with guests. Face-characters don't get enough credit for everything they have to go through just to make us all smile when we meet them :)
I don't know about all of them but my best friend is quite proud of the fact he invented one (for a super minor and silent character) he submitted it to his superiors in entertainment and they submitted it to the appropriate people at the IP's office and it was approved for official use.
During my March 2019 trip in Florida, I went to meet Doc McStuffins (a character I've previously met several times) at Hollywood Studios. When she signed my book, the first thing she wrote was, "To Zeke." That was cool because I didn't say what my name was and I wasn't wearing a button or anything with my name on it. So, she remembered me!
My great-grandmother was a Disney World cast member. At one point she got an autograph book and had fellow cast members and many characters sign it for me. Most characters put a small message, too, not just a signature. Mickey even put a small charm on his page! The book is 20 something years old, battered, and the charm long gone, but I still have it. It's one of my favorite things.
When I took my brother for his birthday back in January, I took a birthday card to have the characters sign, and he now has it framed in his room. Easy birthday souvenir, and it actually impressed some of the cast members who hadn't seen someone do that before
I met Loki and asked him to sign my Norse mythology book. Then he went to Thor's page, crossed out his name, and resigned his name in it's place. When I showed Thor and got HIS autograph, he signed it even bigger than Loki's.
I have a signature from Belle where she drew a rose with a single line-- it was kind of a spiral center that bulbed beneath and then the line came around to make the edge of the petal and turn into the stem. I spent forever figuring out how to copy it as a kid.
charactercentral.net/ is a pretty good resource for character autographs! not sure if they have every single one that's ever been created, but they have A LOT of rare ones
I still remember getting Cinderella's autography i went up to her and said "Can I please have your autograph ma'am" and she said "yes" I responded with "thank you" she then proceeded to tell me "Why don't you come by my castle you have real nice manners maybe you could teach my step sisters"
It’s an affordable souvenir that is more personalized to your trip! I also love it when characters add something to their autograph. Like the queen from Snow White writing that it was lovely meeting me, after we had a nice chat interaction. Or after taking me for a stroll in Main Street and knowing it was my last day, Goofy adding “see you soon.”
I remember when I was little (maybe 5 or 6) I really wanted Sully's autograph and when we went up and asked him to sign he gestured to the giant paw pads that prevented him from holding a pen and I started crying because I couldnt get that autograph. I think there was a cast member near him that signed it for us but either way I was devastated that it wasn't Sully doing it.
I saw sully (and mike) for the first time a few years ago and he was MASSIVE. Like, holy hell i was a little intimidated (and i do NOT intimidate easily) by how much of a titan he was. No wonder he's such a good scarer.XD
My favorite autograph that I collected is Tinker Bell’s. It was while I was a cast member and before she was a walk around character. I was in the tunnels after my shift and Tink had just finished her flight after Wishes. I pulled out the only paper I had which was my work schedule and got her autograph. I was amazed that she even had her own green sharpies at the ready. I now have that autograph framed on my desk. It was so magical
Even though I know these are character actors and actresses signing it, I still have my autograph books. Its just fun! I think my favorite autograph memory was when Cruella De Vil signed it because she saw a Minnie Mouse pin i had on and said "Trade that rodent for a pin more worthwhile, like one of me!"
Imagine being a fur character and barely being able to see through your mesh eyes, barely being able to hold the pen, and having to sign an autograph on highly exaggerated handwriting
been there, done that- it's not as easy as it looks n the outside of the costume...your senses and dexterity in a costume are 1/3 of what they are out of it :)
The kind of funny thing about covid: In 20 yrs, products and signage specific to the covid situation will probably become collectibles in their own right lol.
Last year, as I'm a quirky kid, I didn't get an official character book... Instead, as I was wearing a Mabel cosplay, I carried around the Journal 3 of Gravity Falls. It was the most interesting thing to see all the characters guessing at what it was, and it worked pretty well as it had plenty of blank pages. Now I have a GF journal signed by Disney characters.
Don't think all the French are rude personally, HOWEVER I do remember the lines to meet characters were absolute chaos in Paris, there's 100% not as many staff (if any) accompanying the characters as in the US parks.
I have like 4 of the exact autograph books you put in the thumbnail lol. My mom always loves to tell the story of when I was at the Parks with a church group at like 6 years old, they had an autograph competition and I was so into it that I would see a character and just bolt off to go get theirs autographs, even leaving a restaurant to chase down Goofy. Needless to say, I won that competition lol. My favorite autographs were Kenai and Koda because Brother Bear was my shit as a child. I was beyond thrilled to be able to meet them and to this day, they are honestly one of the few character interactions I remember from that trip since I was so young
This is never really a thing in Asian parks. When I finally went to Disney Parks in US I got soooo confused "why do people ask for autographs from the characters?"
The first autographs I ever got in Disney World were Robin Hood and Friar Tuck. I was so excited because Robin Hood is my favorite character, and there he was on Main Street USA> I was so excited I could hardly hand over my book or give him my pen. I was in 2nd grade, and not as a graduate student it is still one of my prized possessions.
I have an old red book from the 90s. I love it. I don't have any rare ones... maybe Cinderella's mice? But two I really want are Giselle and Eilonwy! I have a picture with Dreamfinder, but no autograph. :( My favorite moment though is either, Rapunzel signing a Tangled book, or Aladdin and Jasmine being fans of my vintage autograph book. They were the coolest.
One of my favorite autograph stories is when I met Spider-Man during a Marvel after-hours event. I was able to dress in a Spidey suit (without my mask), and when it was my turn, I ask Spidey for his Autograph then he asked for mine. I signed my own autograph book, I regret nothing!
