I just started watching the first couple of minutes of this, and immediatly fell in love! GREAT picture quality so far. I'm glad you're showing as many details as possible. I love the queue, it's so nicely done. I wish the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World was just as awesome as Phantom Manor. To those who think PM is too scary for kids, they have the option to NOT RIDE IT. After all it is a HAUNTED MANSION, not Pixie Hollow. Anyway, thanks for sharing this!
I went here when I was 5, and I got scared in the first room so I had to be taken out 😂 in my memory I always thought it was a really big room, but now I realise that I was just small!
man, i was there the last week and it was loaded with people.. me and my sister never rode the Phantom Manor but we managed to ride the more thrilling rides like aerosmith coaster etc. it was a well spent week at disneyland, i love that place. Next time I will visit Disneyland in Japan!
Those memories you have from the haunted mansion, those I have from Phantom Manor, hehe! I visited Phantom Manor for first when I was like 6 years old and the only thing I remembered from it was the ghost in the hallway. Pirates of the Caribbean had much more impact on me, weirdly enough. So when I visited DLP again, 3 years ago I couldn't wait to visit POTC. But when I was reunited with Phantom Manor I was absolutely amazed and inspired. I think even POTC had never impressed me that much!
It's a little sad that I've been obsessed with this ride and the back story. I can't get enough! Now I just need to go to Paris and experience it myself.
Totally enjoyed this one when i went to disneyland paris. For those who asked about how the park would be on Holidays , I think that to have a nicer experience you may want to go on june so you get the cool weather and take advantage of the slow hours of the day (noon , extra magical ahours ect) to get access to the most crowded atractions or to repeat your favourites.
Jesus Christ, I just realized Vincent Price did his voice recording for this attraction 1 year before he died. Even as an old man, he was still capable of doing what he does.
A very, very good video! This 'haunted mansion' is by far the best version! Not just saying it because I'm European, but it's way more dramatic and frightening than I'm used of Disney :)
Gosh talk about scary! I'm used to the Disneyland Haunted Mansion which is much more light-hearted and comical. This looks really intense, I'd really like to experience in person! Thanks for uploading, great video!
The original Haunted Mansions in Disneyland and Disney World were created in part by legendary Disney Imagineer, Marc Davis. It's been said that he didn't like Phantom Manor as he found it to be too dark and disturbing for his taste. He was also upset that some of the Ghost Town scenes were ghoulish adaptations of his own designs of a Disney World attraction that was never built called "Western River Expedition". Marc didn't like it but I would love to see it in person one day. Great job!
man.... i still remember the day i went to disneyland.... i was like 13 years old and when i heard that we were going to disneyland i was like: fuck yeah disney magic.. so first we went to the manor.. i still remember my bro saying is just 1 of those fanfare manor's... but this one man.... it was so amazing. i was so stunned what i saw even my bro could'nt speak. it was (kinda) scarry but beautyfull aswell thank you paris for making my kids AND adults dream to come true but thats another story
For those of you who don't know. Vincent Price's laugh from Thriller is in the ride. The guy even did some lines for the ride but they were taken out because he didn't speak French.
although i am a huge fan of WDW, this is the my favorite attraction and story line ever, more than any other version of the haunted mansion. Just because the storyline is so amazing, and the whole atmosphere and layout the manor gives, nothing like any other park has, total fan of this ride here
I don't really think that it's fair for people to compare this version to the disneyland version. They are both completely separate works of art. Can we all just agree to love them both?
Dave Jansen Im glad that theres someone who agrees with me! I just feel so lucky that i have gotten to experiance both of them in person. in fact the only park i havent been to yet it the one in Hong Kong but they dont have a haunted mansion (but if they do I hope its something original and awsome to give us more to love about disney).
okamigirl54 Hong Kong has Mystic Manor which is kind of their HM/PM. Because it's a bit of a taboo to talk about ghosts in Chinese culture the imagineers had to come up with something else: Hong Kong Disneyland Mystic Manor
Just wait until the one in Hong Kong opens. The version there has a completely new theme which is actually a significant nod to imagineer Rolly Crump's ideas for the "Museum of the Weird". The project that for a time was going to be Disneyland's haunted attraction.
@mic456789 Actually, they had an english narration way back when, as someone said, and it was done by none other than the great and talented Mr. Vincent Price, in his very last performance ever. Though sad that they removed the English track, Mr. Price's voice is however, not completely gone from the ride; the bone-chilling laughter from the Phantom you hear in several parts is what remains of Vincent's audio track.
This is just like the Haunted Mansion in Disney World. :) So, can't say I like either better. This still looks really cool because there are SOME differences. :3
Super
in response to ur comment on my channel. yea it really does hav a darker atmosphere. ive seen lots of PM vids (urs is the best so far) and u can really tell that the story is definitely more dense in this ride, than in the others, which doesnt allow much room for the dark humor included in the Hauntd Mansion. i remembr imagineers saying they felt like this one had to be more aesthetic too being in france or so its definitely more dramatic. plus the othr versions dont include skeletons or corpses
@davey1986 In the Haunted Mansions there are hitchhiking ghosts. At the end of this there are some mirrors that you go by and they're just that, mirrors. Nothing special, at least that I can notice. It was at 12:43.
What time of the year is this? The park looks rather slow, and the weather looks perfect! A lot of people say that one should visit the park for the Holidays, but I'm sure it rains and snows a lot then, and it's busy right?
Wow. That must be so much scarier in real life. All the audio animatronics are soooooo freaky! I'm glad that there isn't a phantom manor in Florida OR California! The music is very freaky! The laughter from 10:00 to 10:09 is scary. That skeleton guy at 11:00 is scary, he Must be the phantom. I didn't know that Disney had a dark side.
It's a shame that everyone talks over the stretching room voice, it ruins the creepy atmosphere... This is an excellent video, you are great at filming! How do you keep the camera so still even when you are walking? I must admit, this version of the ride is more impressive than HM and I have probably ridden it more times than I have HM as well, but still nothing beats the original...
@davey1986 Awesome. I'll go look for that pic. There's a website dedicated to the Haunted Mansion made by Disney Fans called Doom Buggies or something like that. They might have that picture posted on there.
@davey1986 You know I didn't know about that! I'll check it out and try to see those words. You should do Tower of Terror next time you go to the parks
@davey1986 yea I guess but like one thing I noticed was,the following crystal ball with the head they have that in the haunted mansion and the stretching room so there r some similarities
@Cla900, you have to remember that the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland and Disney World were built much less recently than Phantom Manor. They're conservative because they're from a much different time.
Well, to put this into short, Melanie waited for her lover for a long time then went to the town that was now a zombie town and meets the Phantom. He tells her that there's only one way to be with her lover and she accepts, resulting her falling into what appears to be sharp crystals. The ghost of Melanie in the hallway is her believing that she'll find her lover in the afterlife- Either that or she's repeating the same way she looked for him, like most ghosts do.
oh this one is MILES better, trust me. the haunted mansion isn't a patch on the phantom manor. i made frequent trips to disneyland paris as a child, as it didn't take very long to get there, and this ride used to scare the shit out of me. when i finally got to experience the one in disney world, i was left thoroughly disappointed. it confirmed the stereotype for us that america is extremely conservative. the french language also adds to the creepy atmosphere
Woah. Somehow I never imagined anything Disney could be that... creepy. That's a sharp contrast to the American versions. Freaky. Although I did like the plot, which is more definable here.
Omg even if they don't understand French or English they should have kept quiet for the others during the preshow at least ! These people are seriously annoying !
@davey1986 you're right. but i said TOO sad to make fun of french people(80% of french films are dramatic). anyway did you notice that the singing busts in the middle (rollo rumkin and ned nub) have switched faces? sorry for the bad english, i'm italian.
@canadianbaconbro ... the music, some of the scenes, and the exterior are more dramatic than the haunted manion versions. ours is mor of a tour of the house with a noticeable backstory. PM is more of a telling of a story, hence the deteriorating age of the bride and her demise. haunted mansion is my favorit ride and PM looks like an amazing ride too, and i wud want to visit disneyland paris just to go on it
" Just because the storyline is so amazing" The fact that outside of the '999 ghosts retired here' aspect the original versions HAVE NO story line is what makes them BETTER...YOU fill in the blanks and provide your own guesses at to what is going on, you use your imagination... I guess I just prefer doing that, I'm in the minority here, I get that, LOL...glad you all love this version, honestly (I don't happen to, but I love seeing 'all things Disney' supported all over the globe, that's very cool...;)
My story is ( I heard this was Walt's original idea for a story line then it got scrapped ). A pirate moves into an old mansion and marrys this woman ( who has NO idea he is a pirate ) and one she is looking around the attic ( this is why we see the ghost of a bride in the attic scene ) and she finds out. The retired pirate captain then killed her and threw her out the attic window, into the graveyard. ( This is why the entrance to the graveyard scene is through an attic window ) and she haunts the mansion now. I dug that up from a fresh baked Disney episode. This is from Florida and California's Haunted Mansion, not Paris'. So yes, I agree with your statement on no storyline making the ride more entertaining. Actually, the Haunted Mansion still remains one of my favorite Disney attractions.
Haunted Amusement! My Orphanage is NOT the Haunted Mansion...is it?...;) The vague, loose 'backstory' of 'a retirement home for ghosts' works perfectly for the HM...trying to ADD to that (or, pretty much LOSE that and replace it, while keeping the same basic visuals) doesn't work as well as the original, ambiguous, 'leave it to the imagination' concept...in MY opinion, anyway. If one starts from SCRATCH, you can do what you wish. Attempting to rework, or alter an existing property is rarely a good idea...just looks at all the crap 'remake' films done in the past 20 plus years for evidence of this...
Karstens Creations My point is that just because something has an intricate backstory doesn't make it a bad ride. I love Daark Valley Orphanage (it is truly a brilliant idea) and I especially love the "history" behind it. Let's just agree that even if one is better than the other, The Haunted Mansion and Phantom Manor are both great attractions, and are definitely the two best dark rides in the world!
Haunted Amusement! LOL...fair enough...and many thanks RE my project, that's quite cool of you to say...;) I just prefer HM to PM, there is something 'off' about the appearance/look of everything in PM for me (the effects look low budget, IE the lighting and the animatronics...the lightning flashes on the Phantom in the graveyard clearly reveal shadows of the foreshortened effects behind him and the residents of the Ghost Town look plastic and more like mannequins than 'ghouls or ghosts'...but it really is JUST an opinion, LOL)...BUT I LOVE the musical score (it's brilliant and energetic, the vocals are gorgeous) and the fact that Europeans love it is what REALLY matters, after all...it IS great to see a variation of the HM that THEY enjoy so much, and that WAS the idea for the changes, after all...
Disney originally had Vincent Price do the voice for this ride. But they decided it needed to be French. The only part of his recording that remains is his laugh...
Well yeah, but in Paris, they changed the story completely. It's still a haunted mansion, but there is the story of the Bride whose future-husband was killed by a ghost and she roamed the Mansion forever. I think the Phantom Manor is my favourite Haunted Mansion story out there, to be honest.
Maybe someone can help me. I'm confused as to whether Melanie is alive or dead the entire ride. Her animatronic looks "alive" when she peers out at the beginning and when she is at her makeup table as an older woman. But when she appears in the hallway she seems like a ghost and at the end she is a skeleton. I'm sorry if someone has asked or answered this already
