What are the differences between dispensationalists and those who believe in covenant theology?
Calvinism vs. not Calvinistic.
What does the Bible say, can a normal person understand the differences and use the Bible to defend their position?
That's what this Q&A is all about!

Sir, I just came across your video. I went from years of affirming Dispensationalism to now affirming Covenant Theology. I studied the sacred scriptures, and became Reformed in my theology. I have studied and taught Covenant Theology many times in past years. Some of the things you state are so off the mark on what Covenant Theology is that I don't have the time or space to write about it at this time. You do seem to be someone who truly wishes to faithfully and accurately share the word of God with His people. So, I pray that you remain open to more relevant instruction on the topic of Covenant Theology. God bless.

What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary. What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below. New Covenant Whole Gospel: Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him. He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36) We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24. 1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. BOTH systems are correct but not contemporaneously. Covenants except the New C. applied to Israel - some still do. The Dispensation approach is broader than Covenant T. because it begins before Israel existed. There limitations and flaws when world events are stretched to cover more than Israel.

@@edwardwalsh5477 Are you claiming the Old Covenant is still in effect for some people, even though the New Covenant has made the Old Covenant "obsolete" in Hebrews 8:6-13?
@edwardwalsh5477
@edwardwalsh5477 11 месяцев назад
@@SpotterVideo It's not simple. After Jesus' ascension, the apostles continued with a kind of church but not the Pauline Body of Christ. Read Peter and S's sermons to see that they were a repentance, baptism and works for salvation much as what Jesus taught before His rejection but the Apostles never left Jerusalem to preach the gospel to every creature and the communistic community (characteristic of the Kingdom of God) failed - needing support from the gentile churches outside of Israel. Also, the miracles mentioned in the early chapters of Acts declined and by the end of Acts disappeared because Israel for whom these wonder works were to be a sign and characteristic of the Jewish Kingdom, often mentioned by the Apostles, also failed with "we will not have this man reign over us". Thus God rendered the Messianic covenant with Israel dormant with the stoning of Stephan. The opportunity for the 12 Apostles to carry their evangelistic mission became dormant also. In the meantime, God called ONE Highly improbable man to carry one new gospel (of grace vs. of the kingdom) to the whole world not just gentiles but all who believe Jesus to be God's son who died on their behalf and rose again as the transformed head of a new race succeeding the Adamic failure all around us now. ANSWER: Old covenant motivates most Jews who have expectation of a messiah but that's because they are temporarily blinded spiritually. Effective now is the period of God's gracious gift to the entire world, NOT ANY COVENANT. Remember that you are quoting a letter to Israel a covenant people and this passage appears prophetic to me. The old covenant is rendered obsolete but the new has not yet replaced it. When this current period ends and the tribulation clears the Earth and punishes Israel to God's satisfaction, the NEW COVENANT may begin between the entity of mankind and God. I'm still trying to sort these future events out, but the past is past, and Scripture clarifies what God was doing as He interacted with Gentiles (drowned in the great flood) Jews, apostles, disciples, and enemies of the Gospel of the Kingdom and God's sacrifice of his son for the portion of mankind that accept Him. The marriage supper of the Lamb is a separate event that is simultaneous with the horrors of the Tribulation after which I understand the new covenant will become effective. I hope that helps and I hope my analysis (with the help of commentators) does not mislead.

@@edwardwalsh5477 The Old Covenant was already made "obsolete" by the New Covenant in Hebrews 8:13, and completely passed away about 5 years after the verse was recorded during the Roman siege of 70 AD. The text of Heb. 12:18-24 was written in the present tense during the first century. We are not come to Mount Sinai in Heb. 12:18. We are come instead to the new covenant church of Mount Sion and the blood of Jesus in Heb. 12:22-24. How could it be any clearer?

Paul wasn’t forced to believe but also was unable to deny…My conversion was very similar. In one moment I was literally incapable of believing and in the very next moment I was incapable of unknowing the reality of God. You can’t unsee what you’ve seen. So while God didn’t force my will to believe my will is definitely held captive.

Maybe I'm too much like a little child (tho I'm 72), but i keep things simple ~ only 2 labels i use are saved and lost. I've been thoroughly, completely saved for 63 years, tho the life that began as a seed has grown into a mature, fruit producing tree. My faith has been tested by fire, but my Father God has been faithful to His Word and kept all his promises to me. I expect to be with Him for eternity soon, either by death or rapture, but in the meantime, I'm going to share about Him at every opportunity and use my resources to spread His gospel of salvation. I have compassion for anyone who doesn't know the peace of God, and peace with God, that i do. I have sweet fellowship and harmony with Believers, which i believe the Father desires. I have guidance and strength to face what the fallen world throws at me from the inspired Word. But best of all, i have so much joy and contentment from my relationship and constant companionship of Jesus. Fasting, prayer, meditating on the Word, teaching and serving those in my small corner of the world keeps me occupied until that final day. Marantha!!

@@lightworker4512 Since God is spirit and we are only part spirit, we depend upon Him to learn about and communicate with Him. The methods he chose over millennia, have varied - directly (Adam and Eve) until the Fall when estrangement began. Then thru His selected spokespersons such as Noah and later via multiple prophets but now, on the authority of Jesus, we may address Him directly. However, we cannot make our own truth. In the natural world, God shows some things about Himself (reliable, powerful, etc.) but from prophets we get verbal communication opening the path to closer relationship and better understandings. His current highly accessible communications path is remarkable with nature, the written word, and His Holy Spirit combining to provide us with all we need to know in order to relate properly to Him. Currently the Holy spirit does not reside within all earthlings, Jesus promise of Him "will be in you" is being experienced by millions around the globe right now. Covenant theology vs Dispensationalism is essentially kind of like Catholicism vs Protestant. It steps out of the whole error, but retains many of the errors still clinging to the root that GOD deals with mankind differently throughout time and that "the church" replaces Israel. The sovereign does not adjust, HE adjusts us which is why the new heart... very important... New Hearts... Same Law... Also....Only Israel and Judah are in the new covenant... Grafted in to Israel.... Not the other way. It is a wild (gentile) olive branch grafted in. That branch will produce olives... just like the root. If it priduces acorns, pine cones, cherries, holly...etc... it will be broken off and replaced with the branches previously broken off grafted back in... Rom 11... One tree with one root... One GOD, One Law, one flock one shepherd. Once grafted in we are no longer gentiles Eph 2:12 we are fellow citizens so we need to stop clinging to our fleshly blood lines... This is Rom 8:7 carnal mind thinking I'm not Jewish so the Jewish things Jesus does don't apply to me...wrong... In HIM is neither Jew nor gentile.... just GOD. So if HE did it, if HE walked it, then it is our example 1 Pet 2:21, we should imitate 1 Cor 11:1, and walk as HE did 1 Jhn 2:6. We cannot reject the part of THE WORD in the flesh we think is Jewish by refusing to imitate that part of HIM... The Church began in the garden where two or more people were gathered HE was there. Church occurs more often in the Old Testament than the New, and it's always been grace thru faith which is why there isn't 1 single New Testament believer in Heb 11 The Hall of faith. Romans 1:20 HIS invisible attributes revealed in what has been made... The Heaven and earth are called as witnesses in Deu 4, and Deu 30... Why? Because unlike man Heaven and earth have no choice, and obey HIS commandments intrinsically. Man given the choice to disobey has the Heavens and earth right outside our windows showing us neither HE, nor HIS commandments change. Come out of her my children.....Rev 18:4

Now you know why people become atheist. Theology is not easy. That's why you need to read the scriptures time and time again so that you can weave together the seemingly paradoxical into your theology And come to an understanding. And you always wind up leaving it at this God is sovereign and we cannot know the mysteries of his purpose. Only our place, which is a slave that needs to obey.

To simplify it. There are two covenants, law and promise. Galatians 4:21-26,28,30-31 KJVS Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? [22] For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. [23] But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. [24] Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. [25] For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. [26] But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. [28] Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. [30] Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. [31] So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. In the previous chapter Paul writes this. Galatians 3:16,27,29 KJVS Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. [27] For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. [29] And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Only those in Christ are heirs of the promise. The promises God made to the Fathers are in Christ. Ephesians 2:12-13 KJVS That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: [13] But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:20 KJVS For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

In a spiritual sense, I see Judah as representing the church and the house of David as representing the nation Israel. In this view Judah being saved first represents the rapture. "The Lord also will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will not be greater than Judah." Before the rapture the church will be on fire for the Lord to bring the lost to a saving knowledge of Christ through the gospel. "On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot among pieces of wood and a flaming torch among sheaves, so they will consume on the right and on the left all the surrounding peoples, while the inhabitants of Jerusalem again live on their own sites in Jerusalem." I believe there is a physical and spiritual application to prophesy so Calvinism and Dispensationalism is a division of man not the Spirit. This could also represent the 144,000 before the war of Armageddon.

Dispensations have been simple for me. Why do we think we have to have all the answers. We live under grace. Adam another. Moses was given the law. Prophets warned the Jews. God was silent for 400 years. Then Jesus came to His own and was rejected by His own. The cross and the Apostle Paul were the last messenger of God. The people that think God has spoken to them outside the Bible. Jesus came and still people tried to get around Jesus Word. The truth that they don’t accept is the Book of Revelation is God’s final word. The simplistic truth is God sent Jesus and we have to believe. The church is the revelation of Jesus as Lord. He is coming back. That’s what matters. We are saved by God’s grace. The church was proclaimed by Jesus. I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH AND THE GATES OF HELL WILL NOT PREVAIL. IF YOU CAN BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE TO KEEP SEARCHING. HE IS FAITHFUL.

@12:43 - this was already fulfilled and it’s interesting that Luke uses the word “pierced” to the heart. Zechariah says “look on the one whom they pierced.” “Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ-this Jesus whom you crucified.” Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?”” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭36‬-‭37‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ Notice how Peter also lays the blame on them for crucifying Jesus when we says, “whom *you* crucified.”

The passage that shows how a person treats God's Word is Revelation chapter 11 when it starts to talk about the city of Jerusalem in the future. Rev 11 2 is future. Scripturally the New Covenant did not begin until the veil of the temple was rent after Christ made the once and-for-all-time blood sacrifice of Himself on the cross as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. EVERYTHING in the 4 Gospels prior to that was actually still under the Old Covenant including btw when Jesus tells Nicodemus, a Jewish man still under the law, that he "must be born again" and that you get born again by believing in the only begotten Son that the Father gave to the world as the sacrifice for our sins. This is crystal clear that the new birth was an OLD TESTAMENT DOCTRINE. It began with Adam and Eve believe it or not. This is very clear and indisputable if you simply believe what the Bible plainly states in crystal clear language. You will find over and over in the 4 Gospels the law is still being kept and Christ Himself perfectly keeping the law to the minutest detail from birth until death. You will find Christ teaching people to keep the law a number of times!!! I don't hold to either of the man-made distinctions of Covenant or Dispensational Theology because they both have serious errors. Some dispensational teachers, not all, teach that people were saved in different ways in all 7 of their supposed dispensations. That is so extremely unscriptural it makes me hot under the collar to think about it. Salvation has always and for all time been and will be by grace through faith in the shed blood of Christ. The teaching of especially Romans and Galatians make that so very, very clear. No person ever has been or could ever be justified by keeping the law or any other method other than faith in Christ. Some dispensationalists actually go so far as to teach you must be martyred during the tribulation period in order to be saved. That my friend is utter lunacy. I will say, if I was forced at gunpoint to take one side or the other I would certainly side with Dispensational Theology of a more conservative type that does not teach different forms of salvation in all 7 dispensations.

Dr Barnett I am not sure what side you fall on (Calvinist? Dispensationalist? Other?) but clearly you have not studied Calvinism/Covenant Theology well at all. As someone who has been reformed in theology for over 15 years I can say that you have some gross misrepresentations here; and you mention some areas that I have never heard any reformed person talk about. First of all, you seem to say that a big thing with reformed theology is to see the Bible “allegorically”- this is totally false- where did you get this from? Secondly you mention that the covenant of grace can’t be a thing (you insinuate this) because the word grace isn’t mentioned until genesis 6. It seems very shallow to me, to say a doctrine can’t be true because a word does not appear. We for instance believe the doctrine of the trinity, though that word is not in the Bible. The convent of grace was first spoken of in Genesis 3, when God first promised a redeemer. Also, you say reformed people believe in replacement theology which is also not true, though I know there are people who believe that. However this does not represent most reformed people. You do not represent at all the main tenants of reformed theology- you don’t mention them at all. Best to stay off the internet, if you are so far off with your understanding.

The book of revelation makes apparent use of apocalyptic literature and terminology from OT prophets. It is silly to see everything in scripture as being all literal or all symbolic, it takes the Spirit of God and wisdom to understand. Yes, angels will at times give interpretation to things, but that does not mean everything else is literal. Take beasts and horns. These are clearly built off of Daniels prophecies, where we see they represent kingdoms and powers on earth. Ultimately we should not be sold out on any mans interpretation of scripture, but we should be sold out on seeking first God, and being in the spirit and prayerfully asking for understanding of his word. Covenant Theology ultimately leads to replacement theology which is very dangerous. We did NOT replace Israel. According to Ezekiel 40-48 and Revelation 20 the messianic kingdom of Israel will have a glorious future during the Millennial reign of Christ. A literal 1000 years after the literal 2nd coming of Christ. There are at least two reasons why literalism is the best way to view Scripture. First, philosophically, the purpose of language itself requires that we interpret words literally. Language was given by God for the purpose of being able to communicate. Words are vessels of meaning. The second reason is biblical. Every prophecy about Jesus Christ in the Old Testament was fulfilled literally. Jesus’ birth, ministry, death, and resurrection all occurred exactly as the Old Testament predicted. The prophecies were literal. There is no non-literal fulfillment of messianic prophecies in the New Testament. This argues strongly for the literal method. If a literal interpretation is not used in studying the Scriptures, there is no objective standard by which to understand the Bible. Each person would be able to interpret the Bible as he saw fit. Biblical interpretation would devolve into “what this passage says to me” instead of “the Bible says.” Sadly, this is already the case in much of what is called Bible study today. Dispensational theology teaches that there are two distinct peoples of God: Israel and the Church. Romans 11:25-26 makes that clear. Dispensationalists believe that salvation has always been by grace through faith alone-in God in the Old Testament and specifically in God the Son in the New Testament. Dispensationalists hold that the Church has not replaced Israel in God’s program and that the Old Testament promises to Israel have not been transferred to the Church. Dispensationalism teaches that the promises God made to Israel in the Old Testament (for land, many descendants, and blessings) will be ultimately fulfilled in the 1000-year period spoken of in Revelation 20. Dispensationalists believe that, just as God is in this age focusing His attention on the Church, He will again in the future focus His attention on Israel (see Romans 9-11 and Daniel 9:24).

God chose Isreal for service only to bring forth Christ's plan of salvation but not for salvation. There's no partiality with God Romans 2:11 and it's the Father's desire that ALL would come to knowledge of forgiveness 2 Peter 3:9. But it says in revelation 13:8 that the names for the lambs book of life were written at the foundation of the earth so He knows already who will be saved but He gives everyone a free will to choose. Too institutional in concept. Israel > The Church. The scriptures make it very clear that the covenants (promises) to Abraham, Jacob, Moses, David are fulfilled in the Lord Jesus the Messiah. Will temporal Israel have a place in the end times? Probably. But nothing in scripture says that temporal Israel will be the good guys. The promises are still fulfilled in Christ, be the person Jew or Gentile in cultural background. As the prophets pointed out, just because a person was born of Israel did not make them redeemed. It was always by faith.

Nonsense. He has misrepresented Calvinism in too many ways to be enumerated here. Do not be deceived by this relatively new theology. It misinterprets scripture and contradicts two millennia of Christian orthodoxy.

Nowhere in scripture do we see GOD predestining or selecting people to believe . Those who are in CHRIST because they have heard and believed the word of truth are predestined to the adoption upon the redemption of the body unto glorification where we will be holy and blameless before GOD.

Read the recent book "The Foundation of Augustinian-Calvinism" by Dr. Ken Wilson, to see the original source of this man-made doctrine.

@SpotterVideo Thank you , I know, I watched him give a presentation on his book . Actual theologians know all of this stuff about augustine and Calvin, but these calvinist u tubers have blinded and indoctrinated so very many new or biblically illiterate Christians with their blasphemous gnostic teachings .

@@cecilspurlockjr.9421 How much do you know about the New Covenant, which is not found in the man-made confessions of Reformed Covenant Theology? @@cecilspurlockjr.9421There are two entities that God has predestined, the elect among the Jews and the church. Any Gentile who believes in Jesus as the Scriptures say will become part of the church, His body. The elect among the Jews is what will make the "all Israel" in Romans 11:26. There is another group and this may include the both Jews and Gentiles. Rev 13:8; 17:8 talk about those whose names have not been written in book of life from the foundation of the world. Conversely, there are those whose names have been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world. During the tribulation they won't worship the beast. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, *whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.* Revelation 13:8 NKJV The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And *those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world,* when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. Revelation 17:8 NKJV Paul talked about predestination. in whom also we, _the church,_ have obtained an inheritance, *being predestinated* according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: Ephesians 1:11 KJV

Your assumption is clearly wrong, as Christ Himself stated twice in Jhn 6 that NOBODY can come to Him unless the Father calls them first. Later on in the same book, Christ told the disciples that He chose them, and not the other way around. None of the prophets or apostles came to God because they volunteered themselves. As Christ told Peter in Matt. 16, he knew who Jesus was because he Father made it possible for him to know.

How are the Jews going to see the Lord Jesus whom they have pearced,they are all dead 2000 years ago.This will only happen at Jesus Christ second coming with the resurrection so it will only be spiritually seen.

The only issues with some of the Dispensationalist view of Israel is to ignore genetic lines, most of us could claim that we are Jews, many of us have Jewish descendants in our heritage.

Why was I sent this completely useless waste of my time of a discussion about a farcical book of fiction made up by men. The reference to Hitler , brought up a Catholic, being influenced by Luther is daft.

Small problem. Ever wonder why a book you call a farce, has lasted so long? Stood the test of time? Revered by millions? It documents God speaking to great crowds that HEARD HIM, at least twice. Yes it's by men who WITNESSED such things, so now you know the real reason it has credibility, not to mention the generational word of mouth, that relays the event WITHOUT the Bible.
