Dissassembly of a Klauber C800 electric motor. This was a 3 year old 2014 Jayco Eagle RV with a Lippert stabilizer motor that stopped working. After testing the power we discovered that moving the wire at the motor body would periodically engage the motor. We were thinking broken wire but it was more likely just the dirty commutator. With the limited tools at camp we took apart the motor and returned it working order. If you are under Warranty... DON't take apart your motor... let them fix it. The electric jack does have a manual override procedure. It does say to disconnect the electric connection to the motor. That would be at the disconnect they don't five you. If you have the single motor stabilizer, the manual override should be a pin on the end of the shaft opposite the motor that one of your crank handles should fit on.

Thank you for your very helpful video. Mine stopped working. Was wondering how to fix it.... Well you walked me through it. In my case, one the brush springs had rusted and broke. I replaced it with one from a BIC pen, cut to length, did the same on the other spring for good measure, there was also lots of rust inside. I cleaned it out, reassembled it and put a bead of silicone everywhere and it's like new. Happy camper.

Thanks mine was one brush. Fixed it. But instead of those little gaskets I used silicone. Now it works perfect.

Fantastic video! I was looking for pricing on line and just decided to search on You tube. Turns out one spring was rusted and was basically gone. I was able to use the spring from a pen to repair. Saved me money and headaches!

I had some flood water get into mine. Randomly stopped working one day. Pulled it apart and read this comment. My spring was completely gone on one side. Put a pen spring in there and not it works perfectly. Also cleaned up the rust and mud from inside also and resealed with silicone rtv

Great video. Lying under my camper now. Shaft not freely turning. I think I’ll stop now and replace. Soo many things I can screw up.

Very Helpful! Mine suddenly started running slow and could not completely raise or lower without jiggling the Jack arms and finally quit. However Gearbox rotation could only be checked after removing the motor and when I disassembled mine a "cellophane" 1" wide strip fell out... could not figure out what it was for so I left it out. On my 14 year old motor the Armature and Commutators were totally Black. After cleaning and lubricating got it back together and seems to run okay, but still need to re-install it.

Great video do you know if it’s possible to buy the brush card and wiring harness both my negative and positive wires were not attached the negative wire terminal was broken if I had terminals I could reattach and resolder having trouble finding parts

Enter motor brushes into ebay will yields a long list. Put in the dimensions you think they are may help. I would probably leave out the length. There are a couple of motor shops left in the world. While many do industrial motors I find the ones that service the publick are very helpful in trying to solve your issue. Let me know how you make out.

My motor works great. But the prong is froze where it won't turn. I could not raise or lower the jack. I had to hire a r v repair man to come to the camp site to take the motor loose. So I could manually raise the stabilizer jacks. Cost me $250 for 20 min time. Brand new 2017 Crossroad cruiser fifth wheel.

Sorry to here that. I found it interesting that the manual for this lift says "Disconnect one of the wire leads from the motor to prevent backfeeding the motor." Unfortunately this Jayco does not provide a disconnect that does not require wire cutters to use. It is certainly a problem when your jacks are stuck in the down position.

Really good and helpful video, thank you for sharing. Tester and tools in hand ready to rock. Question first, my motor seems to work, stabalizer goes up and down, just no power to lift, kind of stalls when under load. Before disassembling, any idea what's causing it? Thank you.

First I would be interested if the voltage stays at full voltage as it starts to slow. Very careful collecting that data as being near that moving scissor can do you damage. If the voltage is dropping by more than 1 to 2 volts the motor may not be the issue. Could be a dirty connection there or up stream. The other non motor thing to check is the scissor. It may be binding. Try the manual override with the motor. If you feel it bind you may want to try it again without the motor to tell you which side to concentrate on. The brushes and commutator would be my next suspect (assuming the motor spindle is not binding). Commutator being dirty or the brushes hanging, being worn down or damaged. There is the possibility of a coil issue. Look for discoloration in the form of dark blue or black. That would not be fixable. Good luck.

@@alwaystinkering6972 Hi and thanks so much for getting back. I took apart the motor. The brushes and springs look good, nothing really stands out, very little buildup, rust, or corrosion.....that all looks good. We've gotten a TON of rain here in N.E. Fla. the last two months, one option might be electrical connection corrosion somewhere up stream as you indicated. You mentioned manual override. Does that mean connecting the battery directly to the motor? If so, and it then works, that would seem to eliminate a lot of things.

@@jimmyparrish3885 hidden in the manual is usually reference to activating the jack manually. The connection is frequently on the opposite side of from the motor. Maybe you have seen a piece of metal resembling a car jack handle that came with the trailer. In any case it’s design is similar to that of a scissor car jack. It will be on the end of the threaded rod in the jack opposite the motor side.

I have power. When you press the extend /retract button the shaft turns {motor removed}, Then if you put a screwdriver in the slot on the shaft, the shaft will not turn under the pressure when you hit the button.. When assembled the motor sounds right but the jack will not go up or down. Please advise !!!!

First, remember to watch the fingers with the moving parts as they won't stop if you are in the wrong place. On the one hand you could think gearbox, but I would hope the motor straining to its max would pop a breaker before damaging the motor. The gear box should not be too hard to inspect if you have to. First make sure it turns with the motor shaft removed. If you open it up, you would be looking for rubbing on a body part, or something in the gears. Gummed up or binding motor shaft sleeves (I don't recall it having bearings). Reduced power on the motor would be the other option. Brushes not making full contact, damaged wire limiting power flow or the option you don't want but could have, a damaged coil. Again, not tripping a breaker... a shorted coil would likely heat itself to open circuit, or draw so much it trips the breaker. Those are my guesses.

@@alwaystinkering6972 I will look at it again. Did not look at the coil/ springs etc. because the shaft turns when not under a load. I did look at the gears and they appear ok. When under a strain / load the shaft stops turning. Thanks

@@linwoodhobgood1401 Another thing to check... is the voltage dropping under load. You could have a bad connection before the motor and it is not passing enough current when the load kicks in. That could cause the voltage to drop and the motor to stall.

My motor will retract the scissor jack. But it will not extend. So trouble shot it found nothing. But when I put the cover back on i accidentally put it on 180 opposite of what it was now it will extend but won't retract. So I'm really lost.

I would suspect the switch... unless you have multiple switches to raise and lower. In that case there could be a relay in hiding someplace. It’s a dc motor. Reversing the current flow reverses the direction the motor turns.

@@larryraines6953 First video covers how the magnetic fields work. The second video is how to test the armature for a short. It shows several test to run. We are looking for why the electric current running in one direction is not generating the magnetic field. In the tests they show a short you could probably have a short that may still generate enough field creation to make it spin, but in the opposite direction it negates the field creation. If you are getting the full voltage one way and then the other... The Armature is likely the answer. This of course is assuming that visual inspection of the magnets in the housing show now cracks.
