Black Horizons From my Tower I behold the landscape below I see the river of blood in fury flow I stare into the night, yet my vision's clear From the distant villages every word I hear I am the almighty, the one with wisdom wide I am the great shadow and from daylight in my tower I hide I have seen the abyss and all that lies within I am the great shadow and I was born in sin Thy shadow swept by like an angel fading to grey Thy eyes were like weakening candles leaving the flames to die Thy pale cold face, once so full of life Now it's torn as of thorns of ice Thy towers fell to the ground I am the almighty, the one with wisdom wide I am the great shadow and from daylight in my tower I hide I have seen the abyss and all that lies within I am the great shadow and I was born in sin Shadows over a dark lost kingdom The dark clouds are neverending Yes, this is the land, the land of the black horizon Where the shores are covered with the bodies of thy followers Triumphal vengeance, dethroning the shape of thou Fade I say, wither away I am the almighty, the one with wisdom wide I am the great shadow, no daylight over my kingdom ride At the black horizons, my eyes and soul's the wind I am the great shadow and I was born in sin I am the almighty, the one with wisdom wide I am the great shadow, no daylight over my kingdom ride At the black horizons, my eyes and soul's the wind I am the great shadow Behold my land of sin! The Somberlain I fell deeper and deeper as light now was gone I could feel the dark embrace my soul Agony was no more, and so was pain At this point of solitude I knew I was there... There where I belong Thus far a long journey through my soul's infinity It has been a journey far beyond mortality I have found what I wanted, tranquillity I'll thrive on evil, eternally I flew over crystal ground My existence, numb Over orchards of grievance sorrow and tears This beautiful silence calls me now Black fog devours me but I can see it all The monument of my past The land of the seven horizons' before my eyes I reach the land of spiritual rest It's the dawn of descending - I am the Somberlain Down to evil divine domain Lord of infernal, gather my strength Carry me through the gates It's the dawn of descending - I am the Somberlain Down to evil divine domain For I'm eternal night - I'm the Somberlain Precede my evil divine domain A Land Forlorn The mountains below we reached by our will The flames of our swords are burning still Tempted by the night to spread hate and fear We're the revenge the blackest, Their soul is our prey Storms of evil, thunder and might Their moon's in our eyes, a guiding sight We're the march of profanity The darkest breed, again we'll rise forth against the flocks of the weak We'll approach a land forlorn Our hordes arrived / O hordes of white, Watch us take your lives As false you'll fall, falseness disappear (The Land) where eyes are blind we have found Battle sign under the shape of mine Darkest souls now set free We rose again, damnation's reign Watch me absorb your thoughts See me ruin your halls of light Weltering in your sadness for infinity We're the march of profanity Your tragedy, flames will rise forth against the flocks of the weak No return, A land forlorn Heaven's Damnation Striking over oceans of blood Over kingdoms in fears Where the night bred it's cold Dark the winter drew near Watch the sky, the crimson tears of heaven The darkened mist of burning hate Ashes of the past, Years that fell into oblivion Visions so dim they had, memories of a time yet to come Watch the sky, the crimson tears of heaven As damnation reaches the hidden lands Through forest of profanity The sound of cries Brought forth by the night sky Invoked by their own tongues Yes they're truly awake now The souls that were sleeping under the tree of death And I laugh as I burn down the pearly gates of light And forever I'll be within the arms of abomination Embracement of eternal dark With the ancient souls at the sides Wastelands bathed in evil... are one with the blackened sky Watch the sky, the crimson tears of heaven fade to black and welcome the night of all nights Frozen beyond all light Within the black and the coldest breeze Caressed by the dark, I had my sleep Awakened by the moon Nocturnal life, my powers to be Keeping myself alive by sucking you mortals' blood... Frozen winds of immortality as I drown in obscurity Still feeling the taste of blood It makes me so strong I spread my wings Into soul winter I fly Tears in my eyes turns into fire as where I belong The cold within, it chills my skin, my heart and soul In ecstasy I shred myself to release what's held within In solitude I'm having my pride I, Transylvanian son Frozen winds of immortality as I drown in obscurity I fall deep into what's for me unseen Eternal flames lick my face In purgatory I'm all within But I'm forever bound to my frozen soul In the Cold Winds of Nowhere Search for my subconscious Lead me into myself A need to discover the dark A will to enter these gates Oh, this temptation to end this empty life In my dreams I saw my real side A journey through forever my vision's, O so bright Watching eternity open as I turn out life's light Oh, this temptation to leave this earthly shell Deep inside, the toll of death's bell In the cold winds of nowhere With a sigh I pass away Falling, into harmonic sleep Then I'll find my prophecies wasn't lies Falling, into the abyss I come I... I am dying Death does heal me In the cold winds of nowhere The Grief Prophecy / Shadows over a Lost Kingdom I - have travelled through eternity I will - reign once again You will never rule again! Hunger - A thirst for your pain I will - see your kingdom burnt by sins Join my crusade of a time left to come To spill the blood You're the ones who never saw the sun Now I hear it, the calling I hear the calling of the mist The ancients and their slumber Eenai, will rise again from the sea Prophecy From the sea Mistress of the Bleeding Sorrow So dark, I'm facing my destiny As far as pleasure led my disciple was me For ages I have been searching for my bride Since she passed away grief became my guide As darkness falls above - It will be there for centuries My mistress of sorrow she will hear my call I sort of entered the other side when those words were called up to the sky As darkness falls above - It will be there for centuries Mistress of sorrow, please hear my call As darkness falls above - It will be there for centuries No mistress of sorrow ever heard my call
Man this album is monumental! Still remember the first time I put that CD in the good ole CD player! A blast! 20+ years later sounds as fresh and innovative as the first listen. Timeless classic

One can most definitely pick up the Mercyful Fate / King Diamond influence on their sound and even the artwork on the album cover.. still they bring their own style and touch to the table that sets them apart. Absolute Legends!
i can't see any mercyful fate similarity on the sound of the music of jon nodtveidt.... indeed, for my tastes the Somberlain and Storm of the Light's Bane are superior albums
King Diamond is on another planet musically...I love Nodveit's style but he is no Andy Laroque...there's much less variety in Dissection's music but he definitely could write a catchy tune and the albums have plenty of atmosphere.
Today is the 30th anniversary of this Baddas Album One of the best works I've heard in my life Never we will see something like this again An Album that changed the lives of many I will take this album with me to the grave when I die Thank you Jon for creating such a masterpiece Wherever you are now I hope you're okay DISSECTION UNTIL DEAD🤘🏻
I completely agree with you. With one caveat. Check out black braid. Native American black metal. Debut album was last summer. A very very close second to this mighty album. Ravenously awaiting their second album.
@@rodneymcdermott5303 Yes man, DISSECTION is Baddas I know Black Braid Very nice project Its so generic Black Metal but with a Fresh Essence I enjoy It alot
Beautiful said kameraad! Early Death, Sepultura and Bolt Thrower always been my favorite, since a few years a can ad Dissection to the list. Epic music! Heil Dissection!
I mean, at a certain point its pretty freaking obvious. Awareness helps. People do take it too far in either direction. Wolves in the Throne Room are obviously Black metal. But Deafheaven? Nah. Just two easy examples. Zeal and Ardor? nope? Gaerea? Also screamo with post metal influences. People forget other genres of metal and heavy music exist!@@g-man4744
After all these years I still don’t hear the death metal. It’s just black metal with melody. Behemoth is more black-death. This has been one of my favorite albums over the last 25 years though
I have this CD, way back from where I am now, and I still listen to it, thanks to YT... This is one of my favorite metal albums, of ever... Thanks Dissection, for the creation❤
This is where it all started - what an absolute masterpiece. The Unholy Trinity of melodic black/death metal is Dissection, Sacramentum and Necrophobic. Fans of one should check the other two bands out!
@@davidgrier7705 Naglfar, Dissection, Dawn, Unanimated, Sacramentum, Sorhin, Mork Gruning, Necrophobic, Lord Belial, Decameron, Vinterland- all great swedish bands who play melodic black-death metal
My favourite dissection (and Black metal overall) album- just a slight edge above storm of the lights bane- compare them song by song: Fast, aggressive track: heavens damnation vs Soulreaper, IMO somberlain wins by a slight edge Titletrack: Somberlain wins clearly Long, epic track: Black Horizons vs Thorns of crimson death, storm wins by a slight edge Calm, melodic track: a land forlorn vs where dead angels lie, storm wins by a slight edge Rest tracks: pretty equal, I personally like somberlain's sound more Results (.5 points for slight edge win, 1 point for clear win, 0 for equal): 1,5:1 for somberlain
Hey Black Metal fans!! Is there any black bands out there as good as Dissection? Darkthrone, Emperor, Burzum, Mayhem, Immortal... are so far away to this quality. Edit: Also Mgla are very good.
@@manuelsan4901 My pleasure, try Decameron , they aren't well known but their Album My Shadow from 1995 is awesome, then Ophtalamia-black-,death-,doom-gothic band from Sweden like all of these bands i counted, on their first album Jon from Dissection is the singer, on later albums Legion from Marduk, The Moaning is great, then try Sorhin....Eucharist, A Canorous Quintet, Ablaze My Sorrow, Naglfar, Lord Belial, Unanimated, Shining from Sweden too
