This video just radically changed my perspective. It’s so obvious that I can’t believe I never realized it, but pitching the simpler oscillator up rather than the crazier wavetable is a huge revelation. When I think of basses I always think, “okay I need a sine sub”, and I do, but for the meat of the sound for some reason that carried over and I thought when mixing osc a and b the more complex wave table should be on top even if it’s just saw and sine. But the more complex wave table just starts with so many harmonics and the distortion on the simpler oscillator on the bottom has its own harmonics that clash in the pitched up range less musical ways. By putting the simpler oscillator on top, it reintroduces a tone in the key, so letting the distortion on the interactions create the complexity in the upper frequencies gives those nasty harmonics from the lower wave table the musical context again.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction of making some heavy ass Reese bass with some strategically timed LFO movement on the cut off to create a kind of subtle growling like womp womp womp womp womp, wo wo womp womp womp womp, womp haha Hope this makes sense I haven't a track example but I can here it in my head.

Hell yeah! thanks for uploading this. I've been experimenting a lot with basic wavetables recently, in hopes of stumbling upon the right sounds for that 2011-2012 Trash Electro bass. I've found it near impossible looking for presets since I don't know what search terms are supposed to be used, and i always end up on a goose chase. So why not just mess around, its a lot more fun anyways to fill in that sound design session time frame. ✌💖🛸
