Have you ever struggled while creating a heavy Reese bass for Neurofunk or Dubstep? Watch Will making a crunchy, wobbling Reese bass with some tips and tricks using Serum only!
=== Concept of a Reese Bass ===
0:00 intro
0:55 - What is a Reese bass exactly? | Creating a wobbly effect by exploiting the phase cancellation between two slightly detuned saw wave sounds
3:08 - Creating the same wobbly effect with a saw wave and a sine wave for the base frequency of the sine wave
4:11 - Add the reese characteristic by adding distortion with Serum effects
=== How to Manipulate the Reesing Characteristics in Serum Without Post-Proccesing ===
5:17 - Create a macro control for the finetune of the oscillators in opposite directions so the pitch of the oscillators drift apart when the macro is turned up | Control the Reese wobbling speed | Add Distortion back
7:36 - Add a further sine wave frequency with the sub on a higher octave to create reesing in the mid-frequencies and make it more harmonically pure
8:38 - Add noise if you want it to sound more crunchy ;)
8:53 - Control the phase of the sine wave to control the sound of the bass when you first hit the note
9:53 - SERUM EFFECTS |Add a Phaser to hightlight the mid-frequencies similar to a guitar amp | Hyper / Dimension | Chorus to add frequency spread
11:23 - EQ the very high frequencies with a dynamic low-pass that is controlled by the played note
13:15 - Multiband compression | Little reverb
14:00 - Final sound created only in Serum
Happy Producing! :)

This type of reese is a modern descendant of the original, authentic reese bass. It is called a reese bass because the artist was called Reese(aka Kevin Saunderson) on a track called "Just Another Chance". You can almost perfectly imitate the original reese bass by using 2 triangle waves detuned against one another roughly 35 cents in opposing directions, add a sub to give it some weight, and use a low pass filter. You can play with different waveforms, add distortion, use resampling and various other techniques to generate a more modern "filthy" sort of reese. Although i'm more fond of the authentic reese myself, it's always nice to hear one nonetheless. For anyone that's interested anyway lol.

Dude you are so much better at explaining your process and the synth you built then most of the people here on RU-vid. Been an audio engineer for 8+ years so I know all the terminology but tons of these people slap "Beginner tutorial" or some shit in their headline then rush through what they built while word vomiting audio engineer terminology. Appreciate the video bud

Hey man, this is was a great tutorial! Definitely one of the better reese basses in comparison to other tutorials. Only thing i can't figure out is how to get it to go faster in terms of movement on the lower octaves, the fastest i can get it by playing with the macro on for example F3 is still pretty slow, do you know how to fix that? Thanks anyway man

RU-vid was never quite career material for me, it was simply something that I enjoyed doing in highschool (when I had the time). And when I graduated and had to get multiple jobs, other things in my life started to stack up and time for setting up, recording, and editing videos unfortunately fell behind. I appreciate everyone who enjoyed the Spektral Sound uploads

We as Ghosthack are extremely proud to say that Will from Spektral Sound is now a huge part of our company :) He still does killer sound design tutorials (only on another channel) and he can also pour his creativity into our sample libraries. We are more than happy to have him in our team ♥ 👍

Kinda late to answer, but audio quality in youtube is low compared to serum, so maybe low quality works as an exciter in this case. Try importing as mp3, maybe that way there be more bass
