Rewatching this scene made me realize three things : - The mercs, first introduced as tough professionals, are actually overgrown, overarmed and overconfident bullies being shred to pieces and goo once they found their match ; - The suit has an incredible sensitivity, both in the damage indicator and the body language, translating all the pain and exhaustion the wearer is experiencing ; - The shoulder camera is an insane way to convey emotion and tension in a scene !

"greatest CGI I have ever seen" you haven't seen many great CGI movies have you? Small time studios could do this today and even at that time, you didn't need to be a giant studio to make these effects. CGI is good, especially for the small budget they had, but the CGI is small time. The style is more grounded and less fantastic and that's why most people appreciate the CGI more, technically it's nothing out of this world.

This is one of the movies that is dear to my heart, as I built a home theater PC attached to a surround sound system & 100-inch projector screen, starting in 2008. It was all digital too, so that meant the movies were very sharp, using DVI between projector & PC, as VGA would have been blurrier. I rented the movies from Blockbuster back then (Redbox later on). My parents would watch with me & District 9 was one of those movies, perhaps around 2009 or 2010. We had a great time watching on our giant home movie projector screen for the next 5 years. My dad passed away at end of 2017. So, watching these movies are a fond, but bittersweet memory.

I'm glad I came across your comment. One of the few things my mom likes to do is watch movies. So Im starting a 4k movie collection. I'm going to rip all of them and build a home theatre too. @@zerocal76 ... Good luck with your home theater. I spent about $400 usd for the whole thing. Oh & the reason I said only 5 years was because we finally got our first big lcd flatscreen TV after that, so it kinda made my projector a little bit less relevant. The projector was still used but not as much as it was in those 5 years, which was 1-3 movies nearly every weekend for ~5 years. Have fun & remember the memories you & your mom will get from it. I would recommend you take some photos and/or home videos of you guys watching, including what's on the screen. That was something I never got to do, so it's now all just hazy memories from my brain.

I’ve heard it’s in the works, current status though? Not even sure. I would perf it being under the dark though until it’s finished. [edit] It’s better nowadays that projects such as these are kept hidden so we won’t be so hyped up and upset when it wasn’t what we hoped for. It’s fine for them to tease us but for many big films, or ones which are on good pace [like District 9] with its audience often fail right after their predecessors. This goes for games as well and as I’m aware- a lot of these projects are super rushed now because they want to make money the very next year. When a series takes a long gap to breathe and develop, that’s a sign of successful pacing in my book and we shouldn’t pressure them into making a sequel right away. [this could be debatable obviously, as we haven’t gotten a sequel to this brilliant movie in a long time. But if it’s still a work in progress then let it be until they get it done right.]

Can you imagine how effective the suit would be in the hands of a trained operator? The damage he was doing as someone untrained and running only on instinct as it were, is mind-boggling. As for a sequel, I like to think Wikus kept leaving Tania flowers, Tania continued to pine over the uncertainty of whether Wikus was still alive, and Christopher did return and rescued everyone without a major display of force against the humans. Alternatively, by the time Christopher returned the aliens had integrated into society with many choosing to remain on Earth instead of leaving with Christopher. Technology became advanced enough to return Wikus to human form and reunited with Tania. Niether ideas are sequel worthy, though.

Basicaly against no geared foes will stomp same as a tank but will struggle against enemies that are using anti-mech weaponry and remember the more armor you have the less nimble you are, not counting that armor on articulations and head must be weaker to allow movement, compared to its torso's. The reason why so many died is that they were atacking what it was literally armor wise a bypedal APC with asault rifles mostly and expecting to deal any damage when they should have retreated and get anti-tank weaponry
