I’m 62 and know the original by Simon and Garfunkel however, David and Disturbed’s version will always be my favorite. David’s vocals give me chills every time I hear it. Great reaction!
I'm 66 and I never really paid attention to the Simon and Garfunkel version lyrics until I listened to Disturbed and I like it better than the original.
@@joshuapritchard575 I for one never even paid attention to the lyrics until the Disturbed version. That is why I like it better than the original by S&G.
Thank you for your comments. I just found this song in early July of 2023. I am late to the game here. I am 78, and I remember the first version in 1964. Disturbed brings this song up to the decade of 2023 and they did a great job of capturing your attention to what we were supposed to have been warned of 50 years back. His voice is so commanding and powerful, clear, uplifting, and just perfect for this song. All the band members and the instrumentalists behind them added so much, each on their own. I have played the Official Video (which I like with the words, music, and pictures) and the Conan Obrien show version 100 times. I watch the reaction videos and am interested in what others say. This new version just sort of opened a door for me. In my childhood I experienced years of Silence from adults and I can say for sure, as David sang, "Silence like a cancer, grows." it is so true. And he is singing it up close and in your face. You know he is talking right to you. You can't seem to move away. It was just an amazing experience to hear this cover.
This song gives me the chills there's something coming very soon thank you for singing the greatest version of this I've ever heard of my life I'm 73 years old. 😎❣️❣️❣️
I saw this on Conan years ago, then fell down the reaction video rabbit hole to this performance and is definitely my favorite performance to watch reactions to. Haven’t watched a reaction to this in a while, and I still got goosebumps when David does his trademark raspy voice towards the end. Love it!
His raspy voice near the end is fitting for the buildup.if you'll notice, when he get to "tenement halls", he switches back to his clean voice. Amazing voice control!
Same here. I haven't listened to much music for the past several decades. Can't remember how I bumped into the SoS reactions; but it always seems to make me tear up.
It went viral because no1 had really heard David Draiman(singer of Disturbed) sing in a "normal" voice, so when people heard this their minds got blown away A beautiful song, there is so much truth in this song, my favourite is "The words of the prophets are written on subway walls and tenement halls", a very deep sentence
One of the most controlled and beautiful male voices I've ever heard! David Draiman... this man can sing! Love the angelic quality of his high clear notes and the powerful distortion near the end! Awesome!
Everyone who hears David Draiman's version of the Simon and Garfunkel original is always blown away. He brings an incredible power and tone to the music. He trained as a cantor when younger, which is why perhaps he has such depth and control over his voice.
This is a very good cover of the classic Simon and Garfunkel song from 1965 and is one of their many wonderful songs. Paul Simon is by himself a great composer and has made some very good solo albums. of course the 1965 version can hardly be compared with this one. I really do like this version by Disturbed but as I have know the original my entire life it doesn't give me the same feeling of awesomeness as one would probably experiences hearing this version before the original, and rightfully so because this performance is outstanding!
And if you do listen to the original song Simon and Garfunkel also did "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" beautiful song about being there for a lover or a friend 🥰
I must add to my last comment this guy has the depth of tone I think realy suits this song I have been listening to this song as sung by simon and garfuncle since the80's
This is by far the best version of the song! The voice of David is unbelievable and has such a range, especially when it's getting gritty at the end of the song! I think because this is such an incredible performance there are these tons of reaction videos on RU-vid, and I couldn't spot any negative review so far, and i watched already a lot of the reaction videos. Of course i don't know what will be in the future, but I think, that this will stay my favourite version.
Truly fantastic cover by disturbed sung with great emotion and control and it hits you in the feels for sure . They also do an amazing cover of genesis's land of confusion and the video is pretty cool too i highly recommend 👍 also if beautiful emotional songs are your thing the alter bridge song in loving memory ( live version ) will blow your mind
David of Disturbed, He was full of flu that night on Conan! but still producing a masterful performance! You have to get the lyrics and watch the official video, (another masterpiece) to be on your own and play a couple of times, as it brings out emotions from your subconscious, that I couldn’t tell anyone, yet this beautiful version, has done that, not in a bad way but that’s how this masterpiece of a video and the Disturbed, which I will say now, is the best cover, ever, that can make me think, also produce tears about things I should of done earlier in life, Creating tears which is fine. Get the lyrics and official video, shut the door and play and watch. Stupendous!! Ian from U.K. ❤ 25/10/23
He was very sick before, during and after this performance and might be why his eyes were watering during the song. I've read that he refused to cancel so they provided him with a stool to sit on. Amazing dedication to his art.
When he heard the original studio version played back a few days after he recorded it he said he was crying while listening and would not look at the others in case they thought he hated it.
I have heard it before and compared to the original version done by Simon and Garfunkel this version by Disturbed is the best version ever released. So much atmosphere to it that the message behind the song is so much clearer to see than in the original version. Love it, love it, love it🤘🤘😘😘
It's a cover version from a classic Simon and Garfunkel, but Disturbed made it their own. Such raw powerful performance. Not their regular style though. Maybe check out Down with the Sickness from them 👍
I didn’t listen to this for at least a year after I first heard about it because I love the original and didn’t think it could possibly compare to it. I still love the original but for me Disturbed took it to a whole new level. I like their version more than the original.
I really like the artistry of the presentation. 5 parts to the song, each time adding instruments (just him and the piano, then added the guitar, then the orchestra). The lights each time lighting them up. The song and voice was amazing, but bundle that with the presentation...amazing.
Also check out the official video for its creative visuals. Pentatonix also has a credible version to watch (which is a cover of this version of the song). Their vocals are amazing. (Not a metal band).
Now, any time you listen to a Disturbed song, even the screamiest, you'll be able to hear his vocal changes. It really makes songs sound different. He's incredible
When Paul Simon (Simon & Garfunkel), wrote this back in 1964 (released in 1965), there was the turmoil of the Vietnam War & the Cold War going on etc, the World was in a bad way. He wrote this song because he wanted to express his thoughts & feelings as to how he perceived the world at the time. Jump ahead to 2015 & when he heard this performance he was so moved & realised that their performance of the song with the influence of Social Media made the modernisation of it perfect for the World at the time. Jump into now, with the advent of Covid & the current situations in Russia/Ukraine & Gazza, even more so.
Hi Inna, you realy should watch the Video to this. David was ill at that gig. His voice in the video combined with the imges are outstanding. As one of your next reactions, I highly recommend Amazing Grace by Dan Vasc. You will not regret it.
This song, written by Paul Simon and performed by Simon and Garfunkel, is even more relevant now than it was back in the 1960’s when it was written and released. I first came upon this song from Paul Simon’s facebook page. Imagine that, Paul Simon was so impressed that he put this rendition on his page. And obviously Paul gave them permission to re-record it. Love your content ❤
The band show their chops on this cover. David is a trained vocalist. I did not know that Dan played piano. Mike plays kettle drums which came as no surprise. AND those strings just make it better!!! Was that powerful or what?? David has SO much power in his voice!! Disturbed is a darn good band. The original song was by Simon & Garfunkel and was released in 1964. May I suggest you locate and watch Simon and Garfunkel's music. They were very, very good!!!!
@InnaMusicReactions you will love it darling. As you do more AC/DC reactions whether it be Bon songs or Brian songs there are 2 things for sure that have never changed since the day Angus & Malcom Young started this band in the early to mid seventies, the instrumental portion of the band has not changed since they started this band & the 2nd thing that has never changed is the heavy usage of sexual innuendos in there songs. Didn't matter if it was Bon or Brian singing they've always had a lot of sexual innuendos in their tunes & a lot of em aren't blatantly obvious you have to catch em on your own but I promise you this you will not be disappointed whether it's Bon or Brian they'll still rock your balls off 100% guarandamnteed. Enter at your own risk but above all enjoy it 😉 have fun doll
No disrespect to Paul, I grew up with Simon & Garfunkel. Loved every song, Bridge over troubled waters is legendary. This version of Sound of Silence is 1 if not the BEST remake of a song,,, EVER
thanks to Simon & Garfunkel for writing this classic over 50 years ago, making it possible for Disturbed, Pentatonix and others to re-interpret the message....that society was becoming de-personalized, withdrawn and accepting of "silence" to the realities of the world.........btw, David was a Jewish cantor while young and has some classical training........
Its a cover of Simon and Garfunkels old hit, some cover version dont beat original, this one does, and i actually also love the original, just saying, this is a damn good cover..
Draiman was really ill with a fever that’s why he’s sitting down, but he insisted on performing. He’s was upset because O’Brien’s people always autotunes performances. Disturbed never does! I still have the original Simon and Garfunkel’s vinyl album introducing this song. Loved it then, but loved Disturbed’s version even more. I went down the rabbit hole exploring Disturbed’s music after seeing the original video. I truly believe the official black and white video of this song is one of the top ones ever. Be sure to watch that.
Consider doing his cover of “If I Ever Lose My Faith in You”. It’s not live, but still very good! It’s more like this as one as opposed to Down With The Sickness.
This is a cover of Simon and Garfunkel (that's the meme version) but arguably this version is better. 99% of covers these days are coving this version. Paul Simon loved it
Did Simon Have a Vision Back in 1964 when he wrote this song? Yes look at the world today people are lost in the Mobile phone world the "NEON GOD" They don't listen they don't speak, and they live in their own world.
Please, no one take this the wrong way, but I prefer the original version by Simon & Garfunkel. With that said, I think David Draimon really likes the song also, preformed it, recorded it, & decided to share it with the world if that is the case then👍👍🤘hellyah thank you for your faith in us. As for other songs by Simon & Garfunkel that have totally stood the test of time, { The Boxer } & { A bridge over Troubled Water }.
I don't think it has to be either or, Draonweed. I have listened to the original several times in the past few weeks, and it is very harmonious, and all the words were there, and it was sung as a folk song, as were many others of that decade. I am 78 and I like the harmony very much. That worked for the mid-60s and now Disturbed has championed the Song for the year 2023.
@@barbaraheilman321 I only prefer the original, Disturbed rendition is still amazing if you haven't already heard it Type O Negative did a cover of Black Sabbath's Paranoid & it sounds nothing like the original, but It's still awesome.👍✌
Unfortunately, most of the male voices we hear singing these days are very androgynous. It's a wonderful experience to hear a man singing again for once. And she responds to it too. She feels the might in this music.
I love your reactions but I’m kind of disappointed that you reacted to this song not having researched it first. Had you done that you would have known it was a cover of Simon & Garfunkels original written by the legend Paul Simon. And although this is a sweet reproduction, it doesn’t hold a candle to the original. In my opinion, of course.
I avoid doing research because I risk ruining the experience of the “First reaction”. Reading the comments I learn lots of things about songs and artist and I get to listen to them again knowing the important information
