A phrase to retire forever, this week's #CultureDrop dives into the phrase "I'm not that smart." I have a lot to say about this one and intelligence as a whole. You're actually super smart, but not in every way possible.

This is something I say daily to the kids I work with, but not to myself. I appreciate the reminder to allow myself some grace and focus on what I am good at.

An especially important message as we learn more about the extremely valuable neuro-divergent community. So. Many. Gifts.

I love this way of reframing our way of thinking about intelligence. When I was in college, a 'friend' repeatedly said, "You're only book smart. " This person might have been insecure about their intelligence and put me down to feel better about themselves.

Another wonderful dimension of diversity that should be understood and celebrated! Thank you for the reminder - we have come to revere mathematic or analytic "smartness", which is terrific and valuable, and as you've mentioned, there are so many ways to be "smart". Talking yourself down - for any reason - is just a bad habit that needs to be broken!

Maybe you can convince me because the only thing I know how to do is be kind and I help give people advice when they're having hard times.
