I noticed this past week that northern tool has a welding gas cage out front. I thought it was propane at first.

Go buy you a 125 75/25 bottle. You'll have plenty of gas for what you're doing. I just paid 400 in florida for a new bottle full so not horrible!

When welding to exact specs, welding a stitch on both sides, especially edges, would be BEST, welding the whole 1/2 side is NOT ever a Good idea! The heat pulls it to one side of the full welded!

Just the tip for you when you're stick welding change your angle to a 20 degree instead of the angle you're doing is too much and remember the rod gets shorter as you go so you got to continuously remind yourself to keep pushing into your weld while you're dragging it you get a nicer bead Plus with a nicer bead you shouldn't have to use a hammer to get the slag off either a file or a wire brush will do that. when I attended Welding school my instructor would always tell us he did not want to hear what he would call Chicken picking with the hammer if we did we failed he always said with a nice beed it should always just peel off no need for chicken picking LOL plus if you want to mig weld get some flux core wire you don't need argon outside it's too windy flux core works out a lot easier when you're outdoors argon does not unless you're inside welding just remember to keep practicing you're off to a great start just do what works for you and keep up the good work looking forward to more videos thanks a lot

A tip for welding. Put it on max. And stick welding keep it straight 90. And amps 130 for 1/8 and 3/32 100 amps. All n the wrist. Don’t whip it just let that puddle build behind it. Slightly weave it up n down.

They need to use a larger caliper for better stopping power when towing.

This style caliper is not self adjusting. You have to actuate the parking brake to adjust

Yea I like to run low hydrogen rod . I run them on my old diesel pipeline Lincoln..7018 normally.

Nice video. I would of just found a dana 80 Disk Diff and just swapped it out Prob would of been about the same price for 2 piston calipers. Hate that design having the Disk behind the hub what a pain in the ass.

next time just stake the beads has a better weld profile and a lot more stronger

Should of ground out the old weld first than back filled the weld, To make sure the first weld ran deep enough.

As far as disk brakes on a 2nd Gen go, I have a high output, non-sport model that has those and Dana 80s in the rear.

They actually do make this kit already that is non weldable it's about eight hundred and something dollars it's a guy that specializes just in these diesel trucks in heavy duty front end and rear ends I don't even know where he's based of but he sounds like he's from down south I think that's the kit going to get I mean I've looked at some of them on Amazon and that 4 x 4 place you're talking about there around 3 to $400 this guy is about $400 more but the brackets there's no welding very simple

If you're sticking the rod a lot, you may have a bad ground, too low of amperage or not a sufficient amount of current powering your welder. Clean a spot with a grinder to bare metal and place the ground in that location, also place the ground as close to the weld area as possible. Two stepping 70, and 8018 is also not recommended as you greatly increase the chance of slag entrapment.

Disc brakes are easier to spot check and requires no adjustments.. but drum brakes have about 3x more surface area of contact. So if adjusted correctly will out stop disc brakes and should last longer but retain more heat. But protected from foreign debris. Now there is a Chevy 1 ton (1990?) Upgrade and a hotrod steering pump tweak (Sawg na hotrod jet upgrade) should boost line pressure good for bigger tires as well. There is a lower steering box brace with bearing that will help with a ton of other problems (death wobble)

I'm not Hateing on you You could have left the drum backing plate brackets on there and drilled your new disk brackets and bolted and welded the rest way around that way you have more support then just your weld there is so much force on these just hope you got those burnt in real good you can buy shorter brake line and run from the tee to the new flex line instead of cut flare just form it like factory one and put back in factory clips I'm not hateing on you just some friendly advice don't want you getting hurt or someone else if those brake loose. first-time out in front of your house drive fast slam on brakes as hard as you can better to happen close to home praying it never dose you could have used your flux core wire from old welder in your new one till you get your gas bottle main thing you need to burn a lot of rods practiceing that's how you get good at it like anything more you do the better you get try and find a metal shop or fab shot that has scrap bins see if they will give you some small pieces to weld together stay safe keep videos coming

If it has got slag, you drag! You’re doing good, just make sure you switch directions between the different processes. It would help out your welds. The traction bars were fine, the caliper brackets, it looked like you laid the bead like you were mig welding. Just a tip… I’m sure you received a bunch of tips already though. Just keep on practicing, you’re doing a good job.

Good work like the truck I tried stick welding a exhaust didn't work cut through like hot knife through butter.

Manual is fun except when in lots of traffic, pulling in hills and at the boat ramp...the latter two not as big a deal once you learn though.

Technically it's probably better to Flux core outdoors. The wind can blow the argon away from the weld and cause porosity.

If you go to AirGas you only get charged $95 a year for the bottles plus gas.
