Baby. Why don't you just put me in the middle? I'm losing my mind, just a little... So why don't you put me in the middle... Middle... In... The... Middle...
By the way, if you want to skip the spoilers, you might as well skip the whole thing. It's all pretty much a spoiler. I liked the game. There you go. Review done. Hit the back button. Go on. Do it. You know you want to. It's right up in the top left corner of the window. Go on! Attaboy.
I don't want to self-censor here so you probably need to leave the room so I can say what I want to say. I don't want to offend you or anything.
So this is, like, a video I wrote. Then I recorded it and cobbled it together from what small amount of footage I was able to recover from stuttery footage that was so bad it was unusable. I hope you like it. I made it just for you.

I want to adress your complaints regarding the sewergrid in Arx because there were several hints that you missed, but I found in my playthrough: 1. in the base of the magisters you can find a ghost using the spell ghostvision who gives you some info about the sewer (but I can understand why you would miss such a thing, I also frequently forgot that this spell existed) 2. You don't have to teleport to the sewerentrance, you can also find it by exploring the beach 3. Another ghost is right infront of the sewer (but you have to remember about ghostvision) 4. You can learn about the thieves guild by talking to a girl in the school/ drugaddicts-hangout, that was part of the thieves guild, but was thrown out. 5. One of the thiefs gives you enough information about the lever that drains the pool to aqure access to the basement (but I think you have to pass a speechcheck for that, so this is also missable) 6. In the bedroom of the guy with the hidden basement you find his journal about the stolen painting, in which he writes that this painting gives you access to the lower parts of the basement, I think he also mentioned, that the thieves guild stole it There where lots of hints you have missed for that questline because you weren't looking at the right places, but I have to admit, that I chacked the wiki for lots of other quests (especially in act two) because the questlog was so cryptic. PS: regarding the vendors: they refresh their stock every 30 minutes, so you could buy new gear there if you wanted to. PPS: I really enjoyed your video, it was nice to look at this game from another angle.

Yeah, like I said, playing this in multiplayer was the worst choice for me because I have to really concentrate when it comes to games like this and I already have a hard time with that, to be honest. I always forgot about the spirit vision spell. Always...

The game should’v had a little notifier or something to let the play know there was a ghost nearby, because I also forgot about the ghostvision spell, as I’m sure many other players did, too.

Shield throw is an amazing skill but if your mage couldn't deal as much damage as your sword and board warrior you built him wrong. I'm playing on tactician and my Pyrokinetic focused mage annihilates anything that's not fire resistant. While I do think that the gear scaling in this game is complete bullshit I think the problems you experienced with the difficulty might also depend on you spreading your skillpoints too thin.

10:10 i think there is several reasons why there is such a contrast between fort joy and the rest of the game design. 1-Fort joy was playable for the Backers and Alpha/beta testers for almost a year, and they changed and tweaked things using the players feedback, and that is something Larian is good at, they listen and use the players feedback, and either deliver what is expected or over deliver. But since it was only this part of the game that was available for testing, the rest of the game din't go through the harsh and ruthless analisis and critic from the players that Fort Joy did, so things felt different, you still have lots of ways to do things, and you can do them in any order at your own risks, but there is less branching. 2-Even tho the Kickstarter campaign was a resounding succes, they still had issues with time and ressources, they had to cut 2/3 of what the original game was supposed to be, and the deadline for the game release was slowly but surely creeping on them. For example the current game 4 acts, where supposed to be ONLY the 1st quarter of the game... You where supposed to travel and explore the 4 races countries!, the game now only focus and happens in the Human kingdoms and the isle of the godwoken, and thats it. The original idea was that after Arx, you would have gone to the Dwarven kingdom, and after that either the Lizard Empire or what was left of the Elven realms. So the game at its origine was WAAAAYYYYY BIGGER, but due to cost and time, they had to cut back, thats why the last chapter of the game in Arx feels so bloated, cause there was a huge number of questlines that had to come to an end there, and you have the Dwarven plot and the Lizard Embassy. Now honestly they could have done an expansion/DLC where you get new zones and new quests and maybe the cut content, and i think that it was in their plans , since the game SOOOO fucking succesfull. But in the meantime they got Wizards of the Coast reaching out to them to work on Baldure's Gates 3, and thus put on hold the plans they had( the new Divinity game that was announced as been put on pause while they work on BG3) Now lets just hope that they get all the resources and time needed to make a great BG3 game, that it is as succesfull if not more that DOSII, and that they can then ride the tide to finish the other projects they had. On the bright side, they still from time to time release free content for DOSII, most of it are just small changes to existing gameplay mechanics or QoL, but it is always good when Devs still do things for their game.

Playing on tactician mode, I found going to the graveyard more difficult than going west, so I think keeping the options open was a good thing.
@darkpaw1522
@darkpaw1522 2 года назад
I personally felt the graveyard was easier, in terms of the rewards there being much better, and thus easier levels. But to finish it, yeah it is hell. Act 2 overall is the best for this reason imo. So many choices!
@AveSicarius
@AveSicarius Год назад
@@darkpaw1522 Both sides are challenging depending on what build you have. The Graveyard route has plenty of undead enemies, and in my experience these are generally easier for a generalist magic party rather than a physical one (they seem to have more armor and be more dangerous in melee for the most part), with the other directions being easier for a physical focused party. The hardest part is probably either the witch, the tar pit for people unprepared for the necrofire EVERYWHERE (especially if you want to do the side quest), or the fight in the cave full of voidwoken, depending on the order anyway. I usually do the Graveyard first just because it's closer, but if you want to do all the fights it can be pretty challenging. I've played through Chapter 2 on Tactician a few times now (it's also where my last Tactician Honour run ended I think because I went straight for the Witch haha) and it really depends on your party. My easiest run through it was a lone wolf one on a Tactician Honour run I got to Arx in, where I had both focused on Physical damage (Necromancer/Warfare Thane and Sebille, I was practically immortal towards the end of Act 2 and began it on a very strong point as I also killed the Inquisitor on both the island and the boat encounter so I was very well leveled and had great gear).

I love your videos man, but I find myself disagreeing on most of your opinions in most of them. Like your complaint about DOS2 being so open, especially after Act1. That's what is great about this game, it treats you like you have a decent enough IQ to figure out most of its challenges. And if you ef'd up, just simple load it or try other options or just go with the punches or simply explore. But I agree on the combat, it is just so good!

Different strokes for different folks. I loved the game, just thought some decisions would have led it to be open ended, but not designed in a way that punishes the player for exploring.
@toffeecrisp2146
@toffeecrisp2146 6 лет назад
Enviromental effects were much better in the first game, because they were simpler. Some people would scoff at that simplicity being better, but in DOS2, I often found that environment interactions could be too unpredictable to bother with actively using. Instead, I would seek to avoid them like the plague on higher difficulties. It was far too chaotic and complex with the vast aray of interactions.
@toffeecrisp2146
@toffeecrisp2146 6 лет назад
Yes, very true. Which would inevitably become necrofire, the dousing of which, was a real pain, especially once you started to factor in abilities that rely on source and enemies that steal it. Meaning that source was something I didn't have a great deal of, to put out every instance of Necrofire, no sooner had I done so, the damn stuff was back again. I did try a couple of times to create blessed or holy fire, but, when dealing with voidwoken, killing one on the fringes of said fire, quickly turned it normal and the next turn it would be necrofire. Thus, wasted source

i wonder if people who call this story cliche and "trite" even finished the game or played through the majority of its content ( SPOILER:the game seems to start out a bit cliche with the whole godwoken schtick but it turns out to be a red herring). this is no classic DnD setting either. i also dont understand why this game is considered tedious (well here anyway. first time ive heard this complaint). as far as i am concerned it has a lot of QoL features. more than most old school RPGs or isometric CRPGs. as for the later quests i dont get the tedious part here either. shit i actually thought the game got a bit too easy after the first chapter so i buffed up the difficulty to tactician... and im no grognard. i play most video games very casually. but hey to each their own i guess.

I have a few pieces of advice for new players. 1. Focus on one type of damage for your party, physical or magical. At least three of four characters should focus on that one type of damage. If you're splitting your damage too much, you might drop an enemy's physical armor and be able to damage them with physical attacks, and then you'll have to drop an enemy's shield to deal damage with a magic caster. 2. Experiment with environmental, spell, and skill interactions. For instance, if you use earth magic to cast a spell that leaves oil or poison, fire will ignite both. Wet enemies take more damage from electric attacks, and can be frozen. Puddles of ANY liquid can be frozen, including BLOOD. The sheer amount of interactions is insane. 3. You can often combine items with other items or armor pieces for neat little Easter eggs. You can combine nails with your boots to increase your traction and prevent you from slipping and falling due to ice. 4. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT stack your team with melees. You will be constantly funneling your party and they'll be stepping over each other to engage with enemies. You'll be easy to target with AOEs. You'll limit your use of abilities because you'll hit your other party members if you use AOEs yourself. 5. Cross class on everyone. You have diminishing returns after unlocking access to all of the skills in a particular skill, and there are TONS of multiclass skills, creating by combining a non-elemental scroll with an elemental scroll. Ie. tier 1 Necromancy with tier 1 Hydrosophist makes Blood Rain. You need points in both skills to use it. It becomes pretty obvious through this interaction that you shouldn't ever get rid of scrolls. Don't get rid of scrolls of skills you already have or don't want.

I absolutely love this game. It is a fantastic rpg with excellent combat. I had a way better time with multiplayer than you did though, even if I had to restart multiple times because people kept dropping. I learned that the best way to play the game multiplayer is with the lone wolf perk one other person, no companions. Get someone who is a close friend who has a good attention span that cares about the story. It was a fantastic experience and we both left wanting more.

No! More linear? No way. It was great that way. Never got any of those lvl Problems you mentioned. Armor was never really an issue. Buffs were enough to get high enough on armor to fight against Mobs 4 lvl above. Second Island is like lvl 10-16 on Monsters. The difficulty was fine. And the game had difficulty Settings. If it was too hard, why not Play on Explorer or Story Mode? And the Definitive Edition gets even more npcs. I Cant see why that much NPCs are bad. It is supposed to be a search. And it played it with Friends in coop. It was just great. Especially with the freedom to do multiple Things at once. Back in town, one goes out in search for a specific NPC and another does the Merchant Chores of selling and buying new gear, etc. What i would say is that one would have a much better time if you are a completionist. Leaving the start Island too early just makes everything to come a lot harder. There are soooooo many hidden quests and Mighty items one could miss.

I played on normal and I didnt find the second chapter that difficult myself. Sure there were several fights that I had to try a few times but that is part of the charm of playing a game like this. Btw I was pretty thorough on the first island and did a lot of what was there to do on it so maybe thats part of the reason why I had an easier time of it. Anyways I can't wait for them to release the enhanced version they have announced. They acknowledged that the later acts needed some reworking and are going to rework huge chunks of the game from act 3 onwards and the best part is that its going to be free for the owners of the base game. the game is a lot more fun with a mod that disables or slows down the levelling curve. Some unbalanced stuff will happen (like piercing damage being really good all of a sudden) but never above the point where it's still fun to exploit. Also some of the more fun gear can be useful all game long. On my first playthrough it really bugged me that i spent hours trying to find that tyrant set only for it to be underlevelled immediately edit: 26:30. There are a bunch of routes into that sewer similarly to escaping fort joy. I think i entered via the magister prison, where the paladins are searching for vanishing prisoners. There are more entry/exit points though. You can find the lever by talking to the people in and around the mansion. One of the merchants in front wants to find the hidden vault. Also i think there is a talking plant that has something to do with that. Also I believe none of this is actually necessary for the main quest, but i'm not 100% sure

Here's an interesting aspect I learn after EXTENSIVE playing of the game with parties of 2, 4, 6 and EIGHT with mods: The lower number of characters you have the easier the game becomes. Why? Lone Wolves' benefits are one reason; however, it's the distribution of armor stats that will keep you alive versus how much damage output you can handle. Eventually, having party numbers beyond the limits of the game equipped with decent amount of magic and physical armor makes the game mostly simpler, but the climb up that steep challenge is what makes the game more difficult. Secondly, if you want to master the combat well, invest several characters to attack different types of attacks (two with Magic Armor and two with Physical). This makes sure you can be versatile with taking out a target by targeting their weaker armor, which is what makes the combat so rewarding and freeform. Archers are amazingly fucking crazy with physical armor damage with their ability to provide more damage from a high-vantage point, and you get a simple skill to jump before attacking. As for the last source of challenge, yes, there are some battles that do require higher stats (from leveling or gear) but if you are diligent and skilled enough with your tactics you can win fights that you probably shouldn't have. Sometimes you are meant to go elsewhere like Baldur's Gate or other old CRPGs. Even on Inferno difficulty, a modded one to make the game more to my liking after 100 hours, the difficulty curve smoothed out with my party of undead where I healed with one poison mage. (The amount of meta-game difficulty modifiers makes this game into a new bar of challenge; I love it.) There are some fights like the Oil Rig that will be difficult no matter what, but if you use abilities like the Shield and taking the high platform you'll be fine.

Funnel the party east, where there's combat and hell. The bridge that you'd add does exist but you have to lower it from the other side. The paladins quest normally kills all of the paladins with an underdeveloped party. The blackpits can annihilate your party. Paradise downs(while having one of the easier and more engaging characters that give you source) also has one of the most difficult encounters in the game, the Harbinger. My advice, go North. Chat with Jahan and buy water balloons in Driftwood. Do Lohar's quests and do the arena in driftwood(juice up on drugs and poison the competition). Don't do Wrecker's cave although you can teleport to the exit and nuke Mordus. Get the shit from Reimond so that you can leave freely. Then go help Hannag and kill the bitch because she is evil anyway. She's got good fire mage gear. Take your fancy gear and kill the Advocate with Water Balloons. Have the Black Ring and Demons fight one another before talking to the tree to get Jahan and advance the demon questline. Now you've got two characters that help you for later. Then go to the graveyard and do Ryker's quest and all the quests in the blackpits. Kill that fucking knife ear Ryker and take his shit. He has good light armor. Help Tarquin get his artifacts. They're worth it. They make the best weapon in the game. Then go take on Mordus and pillage the western half of the map. You should have all three source points and I doubt you've died at this point. Go back and load up on gear, food, and other consumables for Act 3. Act 3 sucks but it's pretty linear. Pretend to be Almira's thrall to gain Sallow Man's trust. Kill that bitch Alexandar and then kill Sallow man because his chain mail is god tier. Get the combo however you want, but stock up on the eternal batteries. You can find a few throughout nameless Isle. Do all the quests in the elf temple though, because if you don't you'll lose them later. Kill the Mother Tree for The Shadow Prince and then Kill the Shadow Prince, he's a cuck anyway. Then go into the Eternal Academy and change your stats with the teachers if you want. Loot everything in there, almost everything is useful, especially in places it's hard to get to. Do the final arena quest and pickpocket the robot of his battery. Build the swornbreaker if you want for later. So help me god do not use it on yourself. Then go and curbstomp your old allies because fuck em. Go get the wellspring and die. Take off your gear before doing so or the God fight will suck. Kill the gods and escape. Then go kill the demon lord, you'll get a mace that ignores armor. And congrats. Game won.

Did you just call two handed inferior to sword and board? Are you high as fuck? Two handed is the most broken weapon style in the game, it scales with warfare and necromancy. You can literally do so much damage that combined with necromancy you will constantly restore your health back to full from hits. It's ridiculous, sword and shield is shit after act 1. I do agree with everything else though, the game is great. Nearly perfect but arx and the gear scaling make it go from a 9/10 to a 8/10 for me. It's such a shame because fort joy and reapers coast were such treats to explore.

In the Divinity games, if you select a skill and then click a target, if the target's animation causes it to shift to the left or right just as you click, you have a very high chance to click NEXT to the target instead of the target itself, causing you to move instead of use the skill. This was a problem in the original and the sequel didn't fix it, and it's quite infuriating.

I loved playing divinity 2 with my buddies. We would strategize super hard and start coordinating our turns. It felt pretty satisfying getting our source collars off by beating the arena fight. We tried that fight probably 10 different times on 5 different runs before managing to actually beat it. And on PC the modded classes are amazing my favorite has to be the Valkyrie which can fly around from the start of the game and fly during combat, it's this battle medic that can also do stupid damage with one of it's late game spells. For me one friend in the group introduced the game to us and he served a guide role. He had already beaten the game before, funny thing is though we did all sorts of stuff and found tons of mechanics that he never found running through the game. I will say though that we did get genuinely stuck a few times one in particular was getting past the door on Alexander's ship.

I actually played DoS 1 and DoS 2 for the first time over the internet with my RL friend. We REALLY enjoyed both titles. And yeah, there were a few things that could have been better, but none of them were bad enough to discourage us from playing. When we were playing both titles we simply agreed when we were fucking around or sorting our inventories/shopping and when we're actually exploring and doing content. And sometimes everything went tits up, but to me, that is one of the best parts in games like these; you really carve your own path. And btw, DoS 1 really opens up in the second and third area. And if you played DoS 1, there are quite a few callbacks to it in DoS 2 that really deepen the lore and immerse you in its world. I highly recommend giving DoS1 another try. As far as difficulty spikes and exploration go...it's a sandbox RPG. If you run into a tough mob and get molested, load and pick a different direction until you're strong enough. It was the same thing in New Vegas with the Deathclaws in the Quarry. Also at the end you mention how the story is pretty much standard...but you didn't even mention the different origin stories? Lohse's is really good btw...

Its needs to be open. Hard areas may be easier with a certain party, challenging yourself by trying harder fights etc.. blocking areas until it's better for your level would break the game. I've played parties that had an easier time on Tactical than the other party on normal for example . The lost ring/water elemental fight for example; it may appears hard for you but with a different makeup it becomes trivial .

You are sooo wrong about the loot stat requirement being harsh. It is very facilitating, you need to add a total of 4-5 points in either str, fin or int to wear the highest requirement armor and weapons and this is end game. I had complete freedom to wear whatever on any character throughout the game since I had atleast 11 or 12 or 13 or 14 or 15 in each of those stats and had an awsm time with the loot it gave me complete freedom. Did it reduce MA DEE-PEE-ESSS of course but I was having far more fun and the team was better.

Your not wrong being disappointed with DOS1. I dropped it too. It was an okay RPG at its best and a mediocre game compared to other games in the CRPG genre like Planecape Torment , Baldurs gate saga , Pillars of Eternity , Tyranny , etc. It was also heavily focused on coop and the singleplayer was half baked. DOS2 fixed all this though. The singleplayer and coop are equally amazing. Keep an eye out for Pathfinder: Kingmaker. It looks really promising so far. RPGs on PC are getting better and better than ever before.

I played both DOS:DE and DOS2:EE with a friend on PC and we didn't have the issue you described about missing out on important quest/plot details but that's because we would always point out when a conversation that seemed important was happening so the other player could listen in. We also prioritized exploring to find alternative routes through quests and stuff like that, typically by the time we'd reach a fight or a conversation we'd have the extra info needed to make that fight easier, talk our way out if it etc. I love that the game rewards you for that kind of stuff. We also didn't have issues with the difficulty. Sure there were some difficult fights here and there but it never felt like we hit an insurmountable obstacle. Nothing that a reload and changing up our approach to a particular fight couldn't fix (sometimes we'd avoid certain fights/areas until later on). I think the most difficult fight for us was the scarecrow fight in Act 2 north-ish of Driftwood. I disagree with your suggestion about cutting off paths in driftwood to guide the player more. I'm fine with hitting those difficulty walls as long as the game gives you alternative routes to get around them or offers a variety of quests and the like to help you level and gear up. Overall we enjoyed both games and had a blast playing them. I'm curious about what Larian will do with BG3 now.

I don't know about the gear problem, but I've only played Lone Wolf duo so the characters were a lot more buffed. But I play a int/str with Summon/Necro/Warfare that I skipped shield throw until late game, I just had a lot of tools and not that much damage, and if you want to really do damage you can solo and deal thousands of damage before even arriving to act 2 with a crossbow. Also enemies have levels and values showing that tell you if you should approach them or not yet.

A buddy and I were playing this on the hardest mode where if your party gets wiped its all over. We were both masters of the game at this point having played probably the first 3 acts like 30 times but we only finished the game twice. So we wanted a win on the hardest difficulty. We made it to the imp pocket dimension after some outright brutal fights. Fights in which the only reason we won is because we had to really cheese the running out of combat resting and running back in. I forgot that there is a deathfog toggle switch that wipes everything in the pocket dimension out and now my friend won't play with me anymore.

It is a game that required a lot of clue gathering and reading of things around the game world. The quests required you to look around the world for hints and not just hand the hint to you. I remember in act 3 i just wanted to break into the vault to steal shit and found out about how to get in by talking to the lady who is in the house. She appraising his goods or something but she isnt who she says she is. Doing that helped me find my way into the vault and thus I found the painting was missing. The reading and the dialougue and the notes and the books all helped make the world feel lived in and more DnD esque. Its what made me love it .

I didn't have any serious gear issues. There were a few instances where I opted to progress in a different direction because I wasn't strong enough, but on occasion I replayed some of those battles until I found a tactic that worked and ended up finding some really helpful loot that allowed me to progress in some other areas I had avoided. I felt that part of the game was pretty well done. If I had to pick one grip, I'd pick on the elemental interactions and effects. I do not feel that they were complete. There could have been more combinations (same thing in crafting really) and counters , and the battlefield just became really cluttered too fast, too often and in too large of an area in almost every battle.

I think the most agreeable negative point there is the horrifying quest journal. Each time you complete something, it is a deep breath before a long tiresome look at the logs. Gotta deal with it or find another game.

I played through this game for about 3 times right after it released, the journal system and the map is a nightmare, and the game starting to crumble from the nameless isle. I think the game did not address the crafting system at all, I didn't know you add poison damage to your weapon by combing the poison barrel and the weapon, you also can craft spell book and lots other stuff, I did not notice this until I came across some random video on RU-vid. The combat system is fun and somewhat broken for people who are experienced with the game, thanks to the lone-wolf, I pretty much one-shot everything on my way on the highest difficulty.

But… personally I’m pretty sure I just sucked at the game when I first played it. Obviously knowing exactly where all enemies are as well as their weaknesses and abilities makes a huge difference. But after playing the game a lot now, I don’t have any trouble beating enemies above my level. The insect thing was frustrating but i remember finding a workaround back in the day. But i can't for the life of me remember what hahaha. But there is a way to get through. 100 % agree with the journal though. But for the rest i respectfully disagree. Systems in battle etc are found through observation. I can't remember of anything where i didn't get a clue at some point about how to get through quests. Sometimes took quite some time, but to me the absolute freedom i get here overshadows the handful of things i could find frustrating.

please review the very first game Divine Divinity (2002). It's the best Diablo Clone by a long shot and better than Diablo itself. Its magic system is unparalleled, the characters are extremely interesting and funny but it also has a very boring combat system and from a RPG perspective it's just an epic grindfest as attributes and skills evolve slower than in Dark Souls but it is very rewarding as even your own questjournal tells you what a piece of shit you are until you achieve high level stats. It's my favorite RPG to date, eventhough it's not really an RPG, just because of the writing and atmosphere and how you could solve quests differently with very different outcomes. The worldmaps (there are three of them) are very small and the third one is just a desert filled with enemies but there's no fast travel system and you have to use teleportation stones that you collect and pair yourself. Also the alchemy system is out of this world, necromancy is overpowered, the different puzzles... it just takes you in and never lets you go.

I played through almost all of DOS1 and I stopped at the bloodstone requirement because it's just annoying to have to collect those things when I have no clue of their location to begin with.

This game becomes really easy when you know how to build well. Took me until the end of act 2 to really learn how to build, went to the magic mirror and stomped literally everything in sight. Even on fucking tactician the game is relatively easy if you build properly.

Did the graveyard really used to be where players were supposed to go first? The western route is absolutely where you're supposed to go at level 10 after spending level 9 in Driftwood in DE

Divinity OS I is a whole lot more fun than II. Even the jokes were better. II is a very nice game, but I really dig the first story, the gameplay and customization from the first one.
