2024 EDIT // I realised that this was sat unlisted for years, it was part of the first album of music I made for Google and the RU-vid audio library ... and as I'm about to share music from the second album I made I thought I should share this first. So here we go!

Hello, the Gentlemen is a track I made (and have all the parts, projects and files to prove). This wouldn't be the first time someone ripped off a track I've made that's copyright free and in the RU-vid audio library and claimed it as their own. I haven't heard the track you mention, so I can't comment on that specifically, but if it's the same then yes it's mine.

I don't remember the FIL4 on this, I don't think that was out when I made this to be honest but both are years back now and 100s of modules have been released since ... enough to smoosh those bits of memory anyway :)

So in the description it says samples from the gear used are available on your Patreon. Is there a list of what gear you used available anywhere?

Hi Pat, I made this album largely on my Eurorack set up (see the rest of the channel for videos about lots of that) multitrack recorded and layering into a DAW and then produced like I would any other instrument. The samples are stems, one shots etc from the parts of the project. I don't have an exhaustive gear list for this - was years ago so out of memory and as you'll see across the channel I've covered hundreds of modules over the years and lots of different things were used. Happy to take any questions if you have any and I'll do my best to answer. Thanks!

@@DivKid actually that's exactly the answer I hoped for! So much of the modular music I come across on RU-vid is the "classical MIDI into Rings" variety that I'm bored to death of, so I'm always happy to hear modular music that I actually like!

There's definitely some more obvious things when people think of "modular music" a bit like saying "flute music" it conjures an image for a lot of people. Multitracking it and just treating like other instruments that way open things up for what I wanted to do here anyway. Thanks

plenty, the whole first album I made for the RU-vid audio library was largely all modular. The process was MIDI sequencing out of a DAW, recording multiple layers as separate tracks either at the same time, or one by one building up the DAW project. Then using the audio like any other production and working it all in the DAW. So none of it is a single modular patch, but the sources are largely modular.

it was an indulgent project that I wouldn't say was practical or necessary but it's how I wanted to do it at the time.

I really like it. It’s not what I’d generally associate with modular, which is probably just unfair of me/my ignorance showing. 😏 Don’t suppose you remember what that squelchy filter is on the bassline?! 🤔 I’m wondering whether that’s a Eurorack module, or not?

Yeah I think the idea of "modular music" conjures up certain sounds for most of us just like saying "flute music" would. But it's just a an instrument/synth/production tool. Can't remember what the filters were to be honest I didn't take good notes at the time.No doubt more than one in the layering and with the twang of a modulated wave folder too.

@@DivKid He's an animation dancer, widely considered one of the best robot dancers alive. He suffers from scoliosis, but it doesn't stop him at all. Check out "The IT Robot" if you want to see him in action!

Hello, it was too long ago to get into patch notes as I don't have any. Patreon supporters do have stems from the whole album I made though if looking/listening through the audio parts is helpful. The basic workings of the first album of library tracks I did for Google/RU-vid though was to multi track lots of layers, sequenced via MIDI into a DAW and to work up the parts that way.

No worries at all Mark, I always think "I didn't know what that was at some point either" so you're welcome to ask. A stem is part of a multitrack/production or mix. But often a sort of sub mix of multiple parts. So typically (for me) if I'm mixing stems I'll say have a drum stem, which is all of the drums. Not separate parts like in a full mix where you have kick drum, snare, hi hats, percussion etc. I guess thinking of it like a group is the best way to think of it. For this specific track I can see there's stems for the arpeggios, bass sounds, chords, drums and the synth lead. 5 stereo wave files in total made from the larger group of tracks in the original production and mix.

"bounce track" is a new term for me, but yeah makes sense. Submix is definitely fitting.
