DIY £13 ATN tacker for your spinnaker / cruising chute
Heres a video of us using it here - • Learn how to sail a sm...
I really wanted an ATN tacker but at £120 I thought it was a little expensive for what basically looks like a lump of plastic with a bit of webbing, nothing against ATN but I had already seen a DIY one and at £13 (£8 for a fender & £5 for some d-rings and snap clasp) it was hard to resist
our Bavaria boat has no pole so this seemed like an excellent opportunity to make a DIY version to get our spinnaker flying!
So while this could be a tutorial, i do show you exactly how to make one and of course it works for our boat but i have to say if you make one its at your own risk :)
you will need;
Materials
Old ratchet strap or webbing length
1x fender appropriately sized
2x D rings
1x snap shackle
Some thread for sewing
Tools
Sewing machine
Tape measure
Sharp stanley knife
cutting board (or something to cut on)
Marker
Hopefully if the wind plays nicely the next time we are out we shall be flying the spinnaker with the very same tacker I made.
In hindsight i should have cut the fender the opposite way, but it still works fine !
any thoughts suggestions and comments are welcome below
Don't forget to look at our other videos to see it flying in action!
