Hey great job. What details do you have if someone was to replicate this? Just pump details and intecooler specs such as pressure rating and size etc. looking to do this in my hiace as I dont have room for an air to air.

Hey Andy, I left a link to the kit I used in the description, any details should be there but as it was a cheapy eBay item I can't answer those questions other than: * Water to air intercooler - 1pcs Barrel style core size: 4"x8" End-to-end length: 340mm Water inlet/outlet: 19mm Air inlet/outlet: 63mm * heat exchanger - 1pcs Core size: 500 x 200 x 50 mm Water inlet/outlet: 19mm * Water pump - 1pcs 12V, 30L/minute Thanks for watching!

i reckon the system would be a bit more efficient if you just swapped the 2 hoses on the pump. that way cool water out the rad heat exchanger then goes to the overflow which also gives it time to further cool as it can hold water then through the intercooler. the pump would be creating heat in the system also

Too true! I'll swap it around and see if I notice anything with the EGT's and fuel use.

its an ebay link and they often expire sooner or later. should still be able to find the same thing on ebay if you search for a barrel style water to air intercooler. check the listing for measurements and see if you think you can make it fit!

great videos mate! What is your fuel economy like? Was there much improvement after the installation?

This combined with a brand new viscous fan hub is the best for economy. I get 11-12L per 100kms which is way better than the 14-15L per 100kms I was previously getting!

hey mate just wondering where you wired the pump to is it on all the time as long as the car is on or is it on a switch cheers, great video

pump is wired to turn on when the key is in the on position

Hi thanks for these insightful videos! It’s about time somebody started sharing content like this about the 1KZ. As for the intercooler kit, would it be possible for you to share the specification of the individual items? EBay links keep breaking and I can see many similar ones on eBay but not quite sure of the core length you went for etc. effectively, larger is better but not quite sure how big we can go in the space envelope we have under the bonnet and in front of the main radiator. Cheers!

Not much, its more of a reliability/ supporting mod. If youre looking for power in a diesel its all about increasing fuel and keeping the car from overheating. Changing boost on this engine doesnt really add much unless it gets tuned aswell.

Hey mate, just wondering if youve done anything to upgrade your brakes? Ive just put a brand new dual diaphragm booster on my 03 hilux, bled the brakes and it still stops like absolute shit

Factory brakes and braided lines is all I have, works fine for me with all my gear. First check for vacuum leaks so that your booster is getting enough vacuum. Ive had that issue before! Then check your drum cylinders work and your front brake pistons aren't seized. Also check your rear brake bias valve thingo is working and in the right spot

If it's any help I'm running a 1kzte no intercooler she's stock aside from the 4 core rad and my egts are around 4 to 4700 on a incline

I know this is an old video BUT I’m at university for mechanical engineering and completed my heat transfer subject a while ago. Believe it or not your reasoning at 4 minutes is not correct… to take the MOST heat out of a system you want to have the coldest water at the inlet where the air is the hottest.

If I get the opportunity I will! Unfortunately I made mine before I started making RU-vid videos. I can do an overview of what I have done but that's about it for now. My mate might do an air box for his Surf but I wouldn't hold your breath!

intercooler, snorkel and a new clutch fan hub all played a part in improving my economy. went from 425km per tank to 500

My car came with only one battery from factory. In this video I explained that I swapped the air box and batter locations Currently I have my after market auxiliary batteries in the canopy/tub

It's made from mild steel, 10mm perspex and random stainless steel intercooler pipe fittings. The filter is a pod filter I had spare. The battery was relocated because it was my preference to have the snorkel and induction noise on the drivers side (RHS) with the added benefit of not having the intake air crossing over the engine twice before it gets to the inlet manifold.

Hi thanks for you replies. I’ve found the kit you used on ebay. I notice you didn’t like the two pipes crossing over the top of the motor but moving battery and intake is a fair bit of work which I’m personally not keen on (lol) is there room to fit this kit with the standard intake pipe in place, do you think? Cheers.

Yes there will be room for sure! You will just have to work out your own way to route the pipes and locate the pump and reservoir. Don't forget you'll have to modify your grille to accommodate the heat exchanger too.

@@dingeldiy Hey mate got another question … and I could no doubt find out elsewhere :) BUT when you replace the turbo to intake pipe ( I’ve got the kit now, but also am replacing the head) with the intercooler…. What about the electronic gizmo on the pipe … what is it and what did you do with it? Cheers

What size is your barrel intercooler? I have read some people in ih8mud they use 4x8 and some 4x10. And is your intercooler PWR brand or some chinese knockoff? Thanks have a great day

Nothing really noticible other than better temps and better fuel economy. I haven't tuned it and the fuel system is still stock

6mm mild steel, hole saw and an angle grinder. Then I welded some pipe to it and welded some beads on the end of the pipe because I don't have a bead roller.

No need in my opinion. The heat exchanger utilises airflow and the existing clutch fan as it's positioned behind the front grille.

@@dingeldiy ok thanks - I suspected that was the case I like the idea of water air for my hilux but electric fans would compromise water crossing ability…. So this setup should be ideal. :)
