Taking out battery tray on accord is PITA. This is the most elaborative video so far. The best. Thanks for making it easy by putting the camera on the right spot. 🙏
you are telling me! I don't think I'll bother replacing that filter. I hear the larger filter in the pan is the primary one although I'm not sure that one is worth the trouble either.
Excellent video and camera work. Appreciate you taking the time to produce. I have a 2015 Accord and have already purchased the filter and o-rings. Dealing with that battery tray was my main reason for delaying this job. But after watching this and tips shared should be much more doable.
Honda doesn’t change any filter and charging 300$ in Va for drain and refill which is ridiculous. According to them it’s unnecessary to change filters on cvt which I don’t understand. Thanks for video it’s helpful but this filter it’s for transmission fluid cooler which is helpful to change but more important is one in oil pan. That filter “internal” (the one in oil pan)or however you call it collects all metal shavings and debris from wear and tear and is more important to change. On bottom of oil pan are magnets that collect all metal particles and need to be clean if you want to maximize from that transmission fluid replacement. Bottom of oil pan turns to sludge and there is no way to clean it except manually , and replace filter as well, put new gasket and put back together, too much hustle that’s why nobody replacing that. Of course it’s important and helpful to change regularly your transmission fluid even just drain and refill but if you want to maximaze and benefit the most got to remove that oil pan. Thanks again for video. Good luck guys.
Just finished my third drain and fill yesterday at 55,000 miles on my 2013 accord. Switched it over to AMSOIL. I never even knew there was a filter in the transmission to replace. Good on ya. I'm curious now what mine looks like. May have to tear it down and replace.
You will probably be lucky because you have replaced the transmission fluid so often. Every 18K miles is excessive unless you have been towing things or operating under extreme loads. 30K miles is more appropriate. Dont forget the filter.
@@michaellim4165 could you please elaborate what is the pan oil transmission filter? I saw only this one getting replaced on RU-vid, and also saw that this one doesn´t need to be change and if so, then not so often.
Great video with a lot of tips. But can you tell me about the recommended torque on the 3 bolts (12MM) on the oil cooler.? and the Correct 3 O-rings part number?
i am bit skeptical about volume of oil, on youtube as per many mechanic/ Diyer mentioned 3.8/3.9 QT , but when i drain and measure used oil it came 4 QT and 600ML , when i fill new oil keep the car best possible straight , fill 3.5QT , start car move shifter all drive mode for 5-10 second 2 times and open leval plug (12 mm wrench) , again fill up by reaching almost 3.8 QT it start to come out , i plug it back , more or less i fill new oil 600ML less than what it actual came out, should i add atleast 200-300 ML ? or as long it overflow from leval plug it is good regardless what actual came out NB: i did this car first time i don't know that previous owner did transmission fluid chage before and he did over filled 600ML, if any expert can share on this thanks in advace.
Honda transmission filters (actually there are 2 of them) are not designed to be changed on a regular basis and it is not in any maintenance schedule. Its just a fluid change. The filters are designed for the mechanic to inspect if there is a transmission failure. It aids in the mechanics diagnosis. Can you change them, yes. Do you have to, no. Is it necessary, Honda doesn't say to which is why they dont keep them in stock.
@@TraxxasRustler97 are you sure they actually changed it, $70 is only 10-20 more then the fluid itself cost to buy (4-5 quarts). Sounds to me like they might be "giving you a deal" then not servicing it in return. Dealers typically charge at least $150-$200 for a trans fluid swap. No dealer charges $70 and actually does that... heck an oil change is $70 now at all the honda dealers. My friend get a local mechanic to check the fluid to make sure they actually changed it.... that's sketchy.
Good Information to know. I was wondering why my dealership kept telling there was no transmission filter to change which led to some confusion. It's there, but not required to change, now I know.
Changed the filter but not the fluid????🤔 fluid is even easier to drain and fill. Fluid level check bolt makes it super easy to check level of transmission fluid. You need new fluid on any transmission especially cvt trans. Pretty good instructions on the filter but you should change the fluid with any filter. Just like an oil change. Good video tho
Honda does not recommend changing the CVT filter unless it it leaking, clogged or damaged. If you are going to change any filter, the one on the bottom of the CVT in the oil pan should be changed. This one is just a secondary filter which is intended to filter whatever the primary filter does not. Changing this filter, especially by itself is not useful
@@MobileCarMechanic please let me know when you do, I have the 2013 sport and I plan on doing all the maintenance myself as yourself so you’ll definitely be helping me with your videos! Thanks man💪🏽
Hi just wanted to ask a question I have a 2014 Honda Accord LX if I change the transmission filter do I have to top up the transmission fluid or not because I already changed it transmission fluid Or is it ok just leave it for next time when change it
I followed all your steps. When I started the car (2017 accord lx). It is leaking. So I left car will break down again tomorrow. I have all honda parts from dealer. Any tricks?
Bro: thanks for the hot tip. after 10 months i finally got the cvt transmission filter. There is another issue with these 4-cylinder dream works engines they burn oil. i have to add oil after every gas fill up but otherwise i get 35 mpg in the fwy much better than a BEnz. There are lots of u-tubers who are experiencing this troubling oil consumption issue.
No worries, glad our video helped. Didn’t know this generation had issues with oil burning like that. This is a 2016. Not sure if they remedied that in the later years. But that oil consumption sounds insane. Do you have oil leaks?
I changed my purge valve and pcv valve and it got that cleared up ..I had that same problem try it out see if it helps you only cost about 80$ for both parts and they are pretty simple to replace..the purge is a little more tidieous though
Bitchin' video! I've been contemplating making this video for my Accord channel, but locating all of the correct parts and o rings during Covid has been hectic! Especially with Parts departments not even knowing what you're talking about Great work once again!
i didnt know the cvt had a filter to replace. i have had the trans fluid changed at least 3 times at a dealer ship and they never mentioned a filter. when is this supposed to be changed?. i have also heard of people replacing the pcv valve also and thats an easy one to get at.
Not sure if it’s a maintenance item but we decided to do it since the car had over 100k. There is another internally that we didn’t realize was present that we may replace in the future.
noticed a lot of fluid come out, do you add some back in when youre done or no? and how do you add more fluid because there's no dip stick that tells the level
Thanks for making vid long time gm auto tech bought a Honda accord coup exp 2.4 with cat auto thanks for helping us save some money dealer is outrageous
I didn’t see the ground cable under the. Battery pad reconnected. Also did you have to add anymore transmission fluid? I would guess not little was lost thanks in the filter change. Thank you good video!
I did reconnect it but didn’t video it. All you need to do is slide it on to the tab and it will lock in place. I didn’t bother adding fluid since it was a minimal amount. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
Can you get the o rings and the filter at any auto parts store? I finally have a day off coming up and would love to do it sooner than later. Do you have to special order this stuff online? Great vid BTW!
Thanks. I’m sure you could find o-rings of the same size elsewhere but it would be easier to get from the dealer. They should have it in stock. The only one I had to wait on was the o-ring on the filter itself.
I had a 2013 accord EX-L with 232,000. But a deer took it away! LoL I would change the transmission fluid once a year around 26,000 per year! I never knew that filter was there! Never had a problem.
If I only want to change cvt filter I will lose some oil when opening removing the filter, am I correct ? There's no need to drain transmission fluid before removing the filter right ?
The little fluid you lost would you add a little back in or connect and leave it, just asking a question, not a test because they say what amount we take out we must try to match putting back in . thank you in advance.
I enjoyed your informative video,I did my trans filter on my 2009 accord.it was a simple inline filter, not too much trouble.i just have to figure out how to adjust my driver's side head lamp.the adjustment screw is hidden.what a pain in the tail.
Nice job Honda designing this labor intensive BS to replace. Seems it would’ve been easier to just pull the block out. There must be tork specs for those 3 cooler bolts that should be followed.
I have a 2014 honda accord hybrid exl with 86,000 miles. Transmission fluid was never changed. Is it too late to change the transmission fluid? Should I change the transmission fluid?
They say not to typically change the fluid, we changed the fluid after 100k and the transmission honestly didn’t have any issues to this day. The car has 150k on it now. I think we changed around 120k
That’s odd especially if you’ve changed it every 30k. That’s usually something that occurs if you haven’t changed for a long time. Did you use the Honda fluid?
K you gotta show how to pull that harness clip off cause I been tryna remove this clip for over 30min haha. I use my phone, I been tryna feel here to push or grab and pull. I’m abjure to grab pliers and rip it off
I have an accord v6 2014 and when you turn it on it sounds like a squeak and I changed the new starter motor and the fault still continues, any solution friends
I would check your serpentine belt. It may need to be replaced. You can remove the belt and see if the noise goes away. Also check your pulleys to see if they squeal when you spin them. Before we replaced the belt on this accord we replaced the alternator and idler pulley due to a loud squeal that wouldn’t go away.
@@MobileCarMechanic Bro, I'm not even sure the Honda dealership replaced my filter. On the receipt it states that they changed the trans fluid but it doesn't state anything about the filter. When I first asked the service manager about the trans filter he wasn't sure what I was talking about. He said "Oh you mean the fluid cooler filter?" haha, damn.
Hi, I have a 2014 Honda accord lx. My speed meter keep go up and down while driving, I have changed the speed sensor and transmission oil, but it is still happen. Do you think that I need to change the transmission oil filter to fix the problem? My car has 70000 miles Thank you
I like to do the fluid at 30,000 miles, we changed the filter but it wasn’t necessary as it’s not showing as a maintenance item. We did it with the fluid change.
Have a Honda Accord 2013 E. X. 196000 miles. Starting to get a hissing sound out of my tranny c. V. T. Change the trany fluidevery 30000 miles. I don't have no issues. It's shifting all right. I'm just worried about the little noise. That's coming out of there. I'm afraid to take it on a trip now. I don't want to get stuck on the road like I said, it's running and shifting good any suggestions.
Honestly I've not experienced this issue but others online state that it is normal for a CVT to make some noise. I would suggest Reving up the engine while in Park or Neutral and see if you hear the same noise to see if it is actually the transmission. My friend who owns this Accord had a loud whine from under the hood and we found out the bearings in the alternator and Belt tensioner pulley went bad. Potentially could be the same issue you are having.
@@MobileCarMechanic I took it some placewhere I have my car work done. They put it on the left and that little winding noise was coming from The tranny but like I said, it chips. Good and everything. Just worried about taking it on a trip. Now I don't know. They give you a warning before it goes or tha. It'll just quit on me while I'm on the road. Thanks for the reply back.
My pax side axel snapped in low speed, now my CVT (2013 accord) won't engage and makes a horrible sound. Am I right that the snapping axel damaged the tranny? I can spin the axel by hand even while in Park.
When I purchased the Honda Civic on this channel the axle had popped out of the transmission on the driver side. When I shifted in drive the speedometer would increase the speed showing that it’s driving even though it was not moving anywhere. Then when I put in park I’d hear a loud noise. That was the parking paw trying to lock the gears to prevent the car from moving. This may be happening to you and installing a new axle should fix the issue. When I inserted the axle everything was good and working normally with no damage. Replace the axle and let us know. Cheers!
It may help slightly but the transmission itself doesn’t have gears like a torque converter based transmission would. They use belts and cone shaped pulleys.
So the transmission fluid that was lost when you replaced the filter, did you add more after you were done? Or was it not shown you refilling once you replaced the filter?
@@MobileCarMechanic I just changed my Trans fluid at 68,000 miles, but didn’t replace the filter…I didn’t see it as a maintenance item with Honda. Do you think it will be good for another 30,000 miles or should I change it now? Thx.
There is a filter inside the pan. The primary/main filter is in the pan and that's the one you are supposed to change periodically. This filter is just the secondary filter which is only supposed to filter out anything the primary filter may have missed. Honda recommends not replacing it unless it is clogged or leaking.
@@erod6468 ok that makes sense. That little thing is small to be the only filter I guess. Planning on changing it next time I do my oil change can’t wait
Honestly didn’t feel much of a difference. Replacing the fluid made the difference but not by much either. More just to make sure the transmission lasts as long as possible.
To prevent oil spillage all in your engine bay use a towel underneath the trans filter cover when separating, it still might spill but very little. Last thing that filter is recommended by Honda dealership not to change, it’s not part of any Maintenance service.
Watching that video I was thinking exactly that, I do not see Honda doing this, they would charge 1 or 1.5 hrs. labor for this, great video thou, very good attention to detail.
Hi I got there check engine light codes onymy 2015 Honda accord p0717, p0796, p0717 is my transmission going to fail I have 95,000 miles on it I have never changed fluid on transmission and my mechanic says don't change now it's too late is he right
The P0717 states there is an issue with Input Shaft Speed sensor which would affect shift quality. Do you get a speed reading in your gauges? if not you may want to look at the harness/connector or replace the sensor. the other code states there is an issue with a Pressure Control solenoid C which could be cleaned or replaced. But I'd check the speed sensor first. Rule of thumb when it comes to transmission fluid is if its never been changed you don't change it because it could cause issues. I changed the transmission fluid on this car in the 100k+ mark. No issues so far and the owner of the car has already put 6k on it already without issue.
@@MobileCarMechanic I want to sincerely say thank you for this useful information thank you so much GOD bless you I do get a a speed rating but vehicle does not go beyond 40 miles An hour I believe that's because it's in limp mode so I think you right i should change the speed sensor first and see what happens and like I said tranny has 95,000 miles changing fluid should not cause damage it's to low of miles I'm going to do both change fluid and sensor
I purchased my cordless ratchet from Harbor Freight but they discontinued the model im using (Earthquake XT). Home depot and Harbor Freight will have them for about 150ish - 200 depending on what your looking for.
