as a former optician when it comes to the setting of lenses in a frame, simply adding some heat can add the flexibility needed to install the lenses without damaging the frame. please reach out to me if you see this comment because i would like to speak with you about bringing something like this to market.

As I have a basic 3D printer and a number of broken spectacle frames, I found your video very encouraging. This is particularly so since, in the UK, most frame arms are a fixed as opposed to customisable length (possibly part of the reason why so many people end up with ill-fitting and then broken frames). Glad to see that you stuck with RU-vid production despite their overly greedy approach to monetisation.

I break my eyeglasses about as often as I change my underwear too... unfortunately that means I've had the same eyeglasses for the last 10 years

You can print the frame flat and bend it over a heated surface. That way you can have a smooth surface on the front.

Good point. I usually end up modifying my glasses in this way because the optician doesn't get them comfortable.

Hi there Christopher. The plastic demos you have should have no problem being traced or the frame it self can be traced. If you are still interested in finding a lens manufacture please let me know.

You might be able to get lenses only manufactured at one of the places like Zenni Optical. They usually have some in most lens styles that it would be cheap enough to throw away their provided frame, and use your own. It seems that most of their cost is in the lens themselves, not the frames. There may be a better way than asking them to make lenses for your frames. They should be able to provide you with models of the lenses that they already make. Those are already in a variety of shapes. You should be able to design your frames around their existing lenses. It'd just be a matter of picking out the one closest to what you want. That makes it so they don't have to do anything special for you, they'd just ship the lenses without frames. I know there are places other than Zenni who mail order eyeglasses, I have just used them before. I found your video because I was looking to see if anyone else has tried before. Looks like it'll work, so I may try it myself in the future.

vgroove/notching for thick lenses is such a wild west. some people use planar vgroove, but most frames only support curved. some follow front curve, some just go at weird angle across lens thickness. I honestly think my latest pair was grooved manually because it is wild. When designing frames, i am hesitant to use any non-planar vgrooves because some opticians have difficulty with those. the problem is of course they end up looking like a flat slab

We are struggling to find a perfect fit for my wife's glasses. She has very small noise bridge and making some tailored frame would make sense. I was also thinking of starting a project with 3D printing and you for sure helped in this regards to go faster. I believe the value proposition here is more in the customized shape of the frame to fit perfectly rather the fact that they are 3D printed, at the end the day who cares how they are made. I'm might have missed something, what low cost scanner could work to start with? Any idea? thanks again for sharing.

I would like to have a go at printing my own sunglasses but my stumbling block is getting good 3D scans of the lens profiles, once I have those it should be straight forwards, I have tried photogrammetry but not much luck with that so far.

Here in the UK glasses are a rip-off, especially as many people now see them as fashion items, meaning prices going up out of proportion over the years. I do 3D printing which is why I looked here to see what had been achieved so far. There is at least one company over here that, I am fairly sure, would be happy to supply lenses. I have bought specific lenses from there that opticians didn't want to make. Another problem with frames is getting the shape that you want in plain colours without ridiculous "design" features. Like some other geezer's name on the side!

CAN U 3D PRINT TONY STARK/SPIDERMAN FAR FROM HOME EDITH GLASSES. Mainly same design as the cool shades they sell and use in the movie. Only difference its made from plastic or strong plastic filament. The tony stark shades they sell on amazon looks really cool on my face. Only problem. I cant always wear it unlike tested glasses. I really want that design look on my face with tested glasses. So I can wear it any time and place. The problem is that because its made from a metal frame. Eye specialist say they cant reuse metal frames. Its a one and done. Because its more difficult to make lenses for them. So can u 3D PRINT A VERSION THAT IS MADE FROM PLASTIC FILAMENT OR SUPER STRONG FILAMENT FOR DAMAGE BUT STILL BE EASY TO SWAP LENSES. When u have to take over a new one. Really like this design and planned to use it forever if I can get it in a glasses form that looks the same. Love it has a shades but prefer it to be normal glasses.

The biggest problem I'm thinking I'm going to have when trying to make these is my frames are not going to fit my lenses is there a way to measure your lenses for the correct size?
@ChristophWagnerChrisDesign
@ChristophWagnerChrisDesign 4 года назад
The lenses are usually shaped to fit into a specific frame by your optican. So you should be able to work something out with your optitcian if you are going for new lenses. If you try to use existing lenses, it will require a little bit of trial and error. I would trace them on paper. mark certain measuring points and carry them over to CAD. Than print a prototype of the lenses and compare to the original. Adjust and retry.

I like this , if you have a prescription just order them in china .That specific power ,hardness ,anti reflex coating and lens diameter 65 or 70. Then you need a Edger to grind a Lensmeter for the right axe of the lens. And a tracer to make the mother lens .

Yes the dioplter if the inverse function of the focol length. The spherical... So diopter = 1/ f in meters. As far as the cylinder, prism, add (bifocal) etc I'm still looking into though I know what they are but not the math just yet

@@chrisawesome3091 well chris i now can do spherical and cylindrical lenses. i am STILL looking into this. I am on prisms still, and next progressive multi-focal. there appears to already be a technology out there called digital lenses and camber tech, so it is out there, but not sure if they translate to a 3D printer. so still looking into it.
