Enjoyed your carefully stepping through your experience with your thought process behind each step. Thanks very much for the thorough recap. Has lessons for anyone considering something like this.
@@thefilmlaundry I think the fact you're worrying about it is keeping you well on the right side of the line. If it interests you, it's likely to interest others; aiming for something that will please everybody will be unlikely to please anybody, so good for you for digging in.
Ive got an idea make an xpan (since you have one already) and see if you can get the same quality and form factor. All while using decent lenses that dont cost alot. Would help the community out for those who cant afford one. Great video!! Youve got me as a suscriber.
Haaaa, oh wow, that is a giant ask, rangefinders are notoriously complicated, and the spans lenses basically needed to be medium format lenses in the shape of 35mm camera lenses to get the required image circle to fill the frame. Honestly I'm surprised they ever made the camera at all. Will have to see, I'm half way through my next project will have a video when it's done, don't want to say anything yet, but it's well and truly the most complicated 3d modelling and printing I have ever done, but it's looking amazing
Probably, would require some alterations though as I believe most 5x7 cameras use their own mount for film backs and they generally arnt interchangeable. As for wet scanning, too much mess, cost and hassle for only a small increase in sharpness on my scanner, which I would only really even see on super large prints, which I haven't really done any of, and if I did I'd probably just get my lab to drum scan the nef for me.
@@thefilmlaundry I'm going for the cheap route for wet scanning. Instead of buying specialty fluid I'm going to use gamsol and some mylar I purchased from Amazon. I have the 750.
Good luck, from the videos Nick Carver has done on it, it looks to give pretty good results on the Epson, from memory one of his shots came out better than on a high end drum scanner
Great to see another ausie in this game, just printed velvia's 6x17 and it works like a charm but have always wanted to build or print a 6x17 back for my (rebuilt to 5x7) eastman view 2a. Interested in sharing?😊
Glad you finished the project to your satisfaction. Can not wait a day when i will be able to share a video about my project on my channel too. and of course now I’m waiting for a video about yours x-pan, this is going to be fun. Peace
