I needed a better USB Charger to use for my 12 Volt solar generator, so in this video I build one.
Thingiverse link: www.thingiverse.com/thing:379...
USB ports used: www.amazon.com/Uxcell-a120714...
Similar buck converter to what I used: www.amazon.com/DROK-90483-Vol...

This completely ignored every change in usb charging standards in the last 5 years. The tablet isn't charging because it doesn't see anything on the data pins, either the Apple resistors or BCP or anything.

Thanks, Really nice video with good information and instructions. I will make something similar but with around 4 Ports to charge different phones, banks, clocks:)

Why do you need to short the data ports? I made a similar project but didn't short them. They can still power stuff, though.

the most optimal way in my opinion is use 9-12v AC-DC converter with enough current and use standalone DC to 5v DC buck charging controller for each port, yah it might getting more expensive but the module is cheap and will ensure each port can supply the voltage and current needed. Use fast charging module so you can have fast charging feature for each port.

yea i am trying to do something like that with a wireless charger and I think standalone power source with AC-DC is much more safe.

does it support supercharger for huawei and fast charging for qualcomm?? Nice build btw. I would like to build this also someday (even though I don't have a 3d printer) with added switches and fan

no it is a dumb buck converter which only and only steps down voltage

😎 project; could configure the data lines with different resistances for individual device compatibility? Thanks for sharing 😃
@Eman2000
@Eman2000 4 года назад
Thank you. Yes, the data lines could be configured differently for different devices. I didn't do it because Apple devices are the only ones that require it, and I don't own any Apple devices. The standard for USB power is to short the 2 data lines together (which is what I did to all of the ports).

your 12v power source; what is the recommended Amps for it? I'd like to make one; I have all the parts. Just undecided on the 12v source.
@Eman2000
@Eman2000 Год назад
I would recommend something in the 4-5 Amp range. That should be enough to power it nicely.

All ports are parallel with out any protection such as 7805 or with high (2amps) current IC.

@@rokiedecentra9656 most chargers I have all the ports are in parallel so it should be safe because they can't back feed into each other

Hearing "3D printing" on *any* tutorial kills it for me. No wonder those indian DIY using plastic bottles and the like seem so spot on. *disliked*
