Thank you for a video positively doable and doesn't require a garage full of woodworking tools . We'll have been done and appreciated. 😁

Just a quick tip. A real time saver! When cutting your strips, make a cutting jig. It will save tons of time measuring out each piece and speeds up production. For spacing between the slats, use a "story stick". It would be a piece of scrap cut to the length of your spaces. One for each side. Then after placing the first strip on all you have to do is place your story sticks against the one that's nailed down, slide the next one up to them and nail it up. Move the story stick to the next space and repeat. Again, lots less measuring.

7SlotFever I was going to. Say the exact same thing... Amazing how much time is wasted when measuring on my projects ... Kills productivity.

Also with as thin as they are perhaps cut 3-4 at a time 🤷‍♂️

Good shade for the unit on a hot summer day if you don't have trees

Thank goodness this video came up when I was searching products to purchase. My AC unit is VERY large. I am thinking I could tackle this with rented tools. Thank you for the good idea and video!

Anchor it to the ground (or) Get a long screw and screw it into the plastic AC pad of the unit. A wind storm can blow that down the street.

In fact, this video was uploaded 3 years ago and during that entire time not once did it blow away in good ole Ohio weather 😉 We got a new, larger, more efficient AC unit recently, but this cover withstood many, many years in the elements.

Instead of using the measuring tape each time, I would cut off an end of the pieces of wood to use as a spacer.

Great video! Love how low the cost is for the whole project. Going to do a close version of this for my ugly ac unit on a rental conversion we just did. Outside is a patio area and the ac unit is right there for all to see in its rusty glory. Was going to use latticework but this seems better just wish I didn't have to paint it. :)

ItsBrian thanks! If I had a do over, I would have used wider lath, but it does the trick! Good luck with your build!

Blush and Batting I'll check for wider pieces. I was going to price out white plastic or vinyl pieces to see if I could avoid painting it but it's probably not worth the price difference. I'll add to my videos when I do this project

I miss Menards and wish we had one near us in FL. Great video and now I can cross one more thing off the honey-do list without busting the bank on more lumber 👍🏻

Haha same situation here! I lived in Iowa with my grandparent for a couple of years growing up and LOVED Menards with their cheap prices and huge selection. But now I’m back in Florida and unfortunately nothing is reasonable here…🙄

@@antoniocanuso1082 god no. Everything is ridiculously priced in the sunshine state. Thankfully we have Lowe’s and Home Depot close by but that’s the only thing. I make trips to menards whenever we get home

Very pretty from pic. Looks so professional like bought at store. The person asking below about big AC unit like can you remove or have door 2 like open if needs repairs or maintenance upkeep on both types ? I guess lifts up. Instead of measure each time could have marked all with a mark.
@BlushandBatting
@BlushandBatting 6 лет назад
Yes! It’s super light weight and actually can be lifted right off! You could most definitely build it only three sided and leave the back side off so it can be slid out of the way instead of lifted. This would also increase the air flow to the unit.

Make it to enclose on 3 sides, then you could just slide it out

I need to do a project like this to protect my AC thermostat wires from my dog (he likes to chew them). Are the 2x2 furring strips treated to withstand rot? It looked like the bottom couple of inches were left unpainted and then stuck in the ground which could rot or get eaten by bugs very quickly. Also, did you check to see if the spacing of the lathes is wide enough to allow for proper airflow into your AC unit?
@BlushandBatting
@BlushandBatting 7 лет назад
Kris Neuhalfen That sounds like a great idea! I personally did not use treated wood, but perhaps they make it in wood of this thickness. You could always use plastic lattice strips they sell! :)

same here, I have a mastiff so I will have to use 4x4 and chicken wire lol I liked the overall concept i will just have to go a lil bit bigger due to the size of my dog.

Use a stop block to cut repeated lengths. Use spacers between lathe. Prepaint before assembly. Use treated, ground contact rated wood. ...basically do everything the opposite of this video, especially the music part.😂
