The use of the PVC is genius & I already have some, yay.

The pvc is genius - should work with three panels as well - can’t wait to try it out

Great video! I have been trying to figure out how to put a fence around my ac unit but I also wanted to be able to remove the fence easily so the pvc idea is just perfect. My wife and I will be doing this weekend as our first diy project in our new home! Thanks for sharing 🌈

What pvc pipe did you use and where did you get it ? A 2x2 won't fit in a 2 inch sch40 pvc pipe ?

Love the simplicity of the project! Silly question but can pressure treated wood be painted?
@Backyardscape
@Backyardscape 4 года назад
Yes, definitely, but you have to wait for it to dry before painting. To tell if it's still wet, spray water on it, if the water beads, it is still wet. If you spray water on it and it doesn't bead, but absorbs the water, it is dry enough to paint.

What did you do to make sure there's proper drainage in the PVC pipes . . . I'm concerned about water collecting in the PVC pipes and rotting the wood.
@Backyardscape
@Backyardscape 4 года назад
great question, i recently took the screens up to pressure wash and saw that the wood posts had some moisture issues. I fixed the issue by placing a couple of inches of pea gravel in the pvc so the wood posts don't sit on top of the water anymore. Good luck with your project.

My air conditioning unit is 28 W x 28 L inches. I am planning on cutting the side panels to 48 inches width and 60 inch width for the front panels. Since I am leaving over a foot away from the wall, that should give enough space for my unit to vent properly. Does that seem OK to you or not? If it does not, please advise what you think the measurements should be. Thanks!

How was the pvc pipe installed in the ground?
@andrewburris1767

Has anyone tried doing this with a side discharge condenser? I’m guessing those need wider gaps between the panels and/or louvred panels?

The HVAC contractor who installed that condenser maintained the correct distance of 24 inches from the wall.12 inches is too close.Ask an HvAC professional to bring his gauges & measure head pressures of the high line to be safe.Aesthetics for the price of electricity and cooling efficiency?

Good ideas!! Wondering if you can make a video similiar to this one, but build a cover for pool filter pumps??
@Backyardscape
@Backyardscape 4 года назад
Funny enough, I actually built a pool filter pump cover for friends over a year ago. They wanted a more permanent installation so I installed gates on each end to access the equipment. In the post below, scroll down to see "hide pool equipment" to see the pics that we added. backyardscape.com/how-to-hide-air-conditioner-unit-outside/

Came across your video as I am currently building my own same fence to block pool equip. I LOVE the idea of using the pvc as hole in ground as insert. Question... how did you drive the pvc into the ground? My only concern is the ground here us so dry and hard not sure how that would drive into the ground!
@Backyardscape
@Backyardscape 4 года назад
we live in florida, so the ground isn't super hard and is easy for us to pound in the pvc using a mallet. if your ground is really compact, you might need to use a spade tool to dig a smaller hole first. They also have auger drill bits that you could try as well. Let us know how the project goes!

Glad you liked it. Several HVAC does reference 12-36 inches of clearance. Here's one that goes into detail www.staycomfy.com/blog/how-much-clearance-should-i-leave-around-my-central-air-conditioning-unit

My ground is SUPER hard. How would you recommend I drive the PVC into the ground?
@Backyardscape
@Backyardscape 2 года назад
Hi, thanks for the question. You might try soaking the dirt with water to loosen it up for digging. Or wait till after a big storm to try to dig.

I can't find 4" cypress slats at eaither Home Depot or Lowe's websites... does it go by another name?
@Backyardscape
@Backyardscape 4 года назад
Thanks for the comment. Cypress unfortunately is only located in the southeast, where we live. You should be able to find cedar in most home depots and lowes stores. Cedar, redwood and cypress are very similar. We purchased the cypress from a local sawmill. You can google search local lumber yards or sawmills and ask if they have cypress if you live in the southeast.

Hi, I want to build this, but I was wondering how the 2 x 2 wood can fit inside the 2 inch pvc pipe? If the diagonal of the wood is closer to 3 inches, wouldn't the pipe have to be 3 inches for it to fit inside??
@Backyardscape
@Backyardscape 4 года назад
Hi there, milled lumber is actually less than the size they say. A 2x2 is actually 1.5x1.5 and sometimes even less. You could always get the 2x2 and then go over to the PVC section and see if it fits inside. Good luck and would love to see pics.

How did you do the pvc in the ground though?
@Backyardscape
@Backyardscape 5 лет назад
With it cut at an angle, I hammered it in the ground at least 2 ft
@dreamdevelopmentproduction8548
Backyardscape did you just use like a shop vac to remove the the dirt out of the center of the pvc?
@Backyardscape
@Backyardscape 5 лет назад
We were able to pull the PVC out of the hole with the dirt in it and remove the dirt. Then put the PVC back in the hole.
@dreamdevelopmentproduction8548

Did you hammer the pvc in or dug a hole first
@Backyardscape
@Backyardscape 5 лет назад
We hammered the PVC in first. Then you can pull out the PVC and the dirt will come with it, then hammer it in the rest of the way. Hope that makes sense.

❤❤❤❤❤ finally someone in life with common sense vs judging things by looks😅 I know someone that just did this and went in there basement put hand on high pressure return line it's definitely hotter burns🎉🎉🎉 there's a reason these units can be located somewhere else vs a hang in window unit let the unit do what it built for vs suffocate it over judging your house looks damage to the unit will take time and the bill to replace will cost between 10,000-15,000 or just throw the ugly thing in your trash and your yard looks great without bulky thing now you suffer heatstroke😅
