I've made potion / apothecary bottles on my channel a couple of times over the past few years, but I've never really focused on jars as much. Inspiration for these jars came from Live It Like Lisa's channel here on You Tube. As well as distressing and aging the jars and sticking labels on, I have also put something in each jar that relates to what's on the label. I used things I already had around the house and in my craft stash, and I absolutely love how they turned out. You can adapt this technique to work with whatever size or shape of jar you have.
Materials used:
- Empty jars which are cleaned and have their labels removed
- Course grit sand paper / nail files
- Black acrylic pain watered down a lot + sponge and kitchen towel
- Jar labels - I searched Google for "Apothecary jar labels free to use" then aged them using a wet tea bag, coffee granules, cocoa powder and turmeric powder
- PVA glue watered down a bit
- Assortment of items to fill the jars. I used flour, glitters, mica powder, spiders, bats, crows feet made from pipe cleaners, etc.
- Squares of brown paper or scraps of fabric to glue to the lids
- String or twine to tie around the paper lids
- For the optional final step I used resin, hot glue or polymer clay tags or badges that relate to the label. I used a skull and crossbones badge on my arsenic jar, small Moon pendant for my Moon dust jar, etc. I stuck them on with hot glue
