UPDATE:
Many of you are trying to run this setup, the code on Dragonframe must be adapted to work with the CNC Shield. Follow this indications to make Arduino - Dragonframe code work with the CNC shield pin configuration.
New pins, paste this lines before // set output pins line:
motors[0].stepPin = 2;
motors[0].dirPin = 5;
motors[1].stepPin = 3;
motors[1].dirPin = 6;
motors[2].stepPin = 4;
motors[2].dirPin = 7;
motors[3].stepPin = 12;
motors[3].dirPin = 13;
Change this set of lines (that appears earlier):
#define MOTOR0_STEP_PORT PORTD
#define MOTOR0_STEP_PIN B00010000
#define MOTOR1_STEP_PORT PORTD
#define MOTOR1_STEP_PIN B01000000
#define MOTOR2_STEP_PORT PORTB
#define MOTOR2_STEP_PIN B00000001
#define MOTOR3_STEP_PORT PORTB
#define MOTOR3_STEP_PIN B00000100
TO THOSE LINES TO:
#define MOTOR0_STEP_PORT PORTD
#define MOTOR0_STEP_PIN B00000100
#define MOTOR1_STEP_PORT PORTD
#define MOTOR1_STEP_PIN B00001000
#define MOTOR2_STEP_PORT PORTD
#define MOTOR2_STEP_PIN B00010000
#define MOTOR3_STEP_PORT PORTB
#define MOTOR3_STEP_PIN B00010000
This should work, please, subscribe and leave a like :)
...if not find a friend used to Arduino code.

Hello all! I followed Edu's instructions in the comments for adapting the DFMOCO Arduino sketch for use with a CNC shield (I purchased the exact same one he gives the link for). I had no success, and after some painstaking research, discovered this forum post forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=503861.30 Based on Reply #37, it seems there must be some "Enable" lines present in the sketch for this setup to work. This was not mentioned in Edu's instructions. I hope this will help anyone else trying to incorporate a CNC shield into their MOCO setup. Thanks Edu for your great videos! I've learned so much from you!

Great video!! I'm building a slider for time lapse video using IGUS products. I'm wanting to use a longer rail on an angle high to low with maybe the bottom sitting on the ground. I have a Sony A6300 with cage, powerbank battery supply, and sometimes a wireless mic receiver. Do you think the 10-40-10 rail will strong enough with out bowing. Or should I step up to the 10-80-10. There is a company online offering a motorized kit for the 10-80-10 that I would like to use. I don't know if it could be made to fit 10-40-80. I will call them tomorrow,,,lol. Thanks for any advise.
@edupuertasfruns

Just for a camera the 10-40-10 is good, if you are going to upgrade to other axis movement on this thing, then think it twice. Phone them, they will know it better

Hello! I'm just getting into this and I'd like to build something similar. I've noticed that the slider moves consistently even when it moves slowly. Is there a way to make it move a few milimeters, then completely stop for a few seconds and then move again? I'm asking because this would allow me to shoot long exposure timelapses. too.

If the flash works in your browser it is easy, in the link you will see a box with opitons to choose what you want. I describe now configure the following... (in some browsers the box doesn't work, then is a little complicated to understand) For the rail you choose WS-10-40-Ungebohrt and you set up the length-1000mm for 1 meter www.igus.eu/wpck/2003/DryLin_W_Doppelschiene Then the slider or carriage is WW-10-40-10-HKA, in the box you say the lenght to 100mm and tick the box for hand clamp for easy positioning. Those are the 2 parts. If not, send a mail them asking for WS-10-40-Ungebohrt-1000 and WW-10-40-10-HKA. They will understand it. Thanks for your interest!!!

Do you find any problems with the belt? I.e., backlash, getting it tight enough to be able to step back to the same start position, issues with damaging the motor bearings or putting too much load on the motor?Nice video!
@edupuertasfruns
@edupuertasfruns 7 лет назад
To this moment it works fine. Backlash is not noticeble, I have repeated movements to have clean backgrounds and it copies nicely the move, of course sometimes you could loose steps if the motor can't handle the move. You will damage quicker the belt than the bearings. Finallly the load, for this motor and this camera and head, it is not able to hold in vertical position, but it handles 45 degrees as shown.

Also, if I buy extra motors and Pololu motor drivers that ar'nt from your website, will they still operate with dragon frame or is programming required. BTW this might sound stupid because I know nothing about electronics. If you could get back to me I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Each axis is for one motor. You can duplicate an axis using the 4th one. No need to extra code added, just new stepper driver and motor

I agree,@@edupuertasfruns you're wonderful! Here's a challenge for you you! In version 5.0.3 of DF, there's a "Coupling" option, to "use two motors in parallel to move a physical axis," e.g., that are channels 2 & 3 for a y-axis. With the code provided in your comments... I can control each motor (X, Y1, Y2) in DF as separate axes. However, when using the Coupling option with a single y-axis created, only the motor on channel 2 is moving. Thoughts?

You should find the lines, on dragonframe 4 the code is larger but they are still there. If the motor moves a little, could be that the potentiometer in the driver is not propertly set. Try to turn a little the screw with a lot of care of not touching other connections. Hope it its the problem.

@@edupuertasfruns Thank you so much for replying I didn't expect you would. I bought everything you have named in the description. I'm not sure if I damaged the board because I didn't realize there was difference between the A4988 and the DRV8825 so I installed the DRV8825 upside down. Also, I disconnected and reconnected the stepper motor when the shield was powered by the 12V supply. However, when I check the nominal voltages of the pot they seem to be with in spec as well as the referee e voltage. Also, I keep getting a low memory in Arduino and I am aware of the F-disk method but that doesn't help. All I have are Mac computers no PC here. I compiled and uploaded inspire of the low memory warning. Although it says it's connected the connections menu When I open up dragon frame it does nothing to step the motor. I've been at this for almost a week. It's so frustrating that I order 5 more drivers (DRV8825) and another Nema 17HS19 stepper motor. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi again, Edu. What settings did you enter in the Dragonframe ArcMoco axis box for the motor - steps/sec etc?
@edupuertasfruns
@edupuertasfruns 7 лет назад
Really depends on how many microstepps do you have configured the drivers to run on. It must be something that doesn't take you forever to move it and not so fast that the motor jumps stepps. Do you thing I should make a video about it?
@oddplanetstudios6172
@oddplanetstudios6172 7 лет назад
For me that is the tricky part. It would be good to see a video on how to configure it all together. I don't think anyone else has done one, they have all just muddled through! I have just been using 1/16 micro steps because that was what the BEDs used. I don't even know what would happen if I used something different! I had a problem with the geared motors and backlash, so I changed them for some unguarded motors, the same as you use for the slider. But I could not get them to work at all. It might be because I put in too many steps to had the micro steps wrong. I just don't know the answer, so fiddle around until it seems to work.

Buenas!

I am using Dragonframe, a software for animation, that one gives the instructions to the board real time by sending step and direction signals to the arduino. So in fact, the code in arduino is the same using that cnc shield or not, if you use dragonframe.

Could I use a 11.1V Lipo battery? The ones I have are rated up to 2200mAH. The problem I forsee is the driver listed for the motor (12V-36V). Would a 14.86V work?
@edupuertasfruns
@edupuertasfruns 6 лет назад
No sé si te estoy entendiendo. Tienes que poner un driver por cada motor. Si funciona el eje x, el y z deberían también. Si se copia lo del x en el y es que hay un jumper de copia puesto para duplicar movimientos.

Hi Edu. I can't seem to get my stepper to work properly. I have bought the same motor as you describe, and a black box driver. On the driver there are microswitches for the steps and the current. I have set the current to 2.0A, peak 2.2A as the motor specification is for 2.0A. But there is almost no holding torque and no strength in the motor. What am I doing wrong? Is it the current setting or something else? I am running the motor off a 24V PSU.

Hi Edu. I think I have found my problem(s): I set the microswitches to 2.5A, and the motor worked fine, even though it is rated at 2.0A. With the lower current it didn't work properly and had no torque. My other silly problem was that I put a gear onto the shaft, but forgot to tighten the grub screw, so when I held it as it was turning, there seemed to be no force in the motor! I'll send you some pics of my set-up by email.
