This Axe throwing target was made for a client but..... after throwing the axe for about 30 minute I think I might have the axe throwing bug now. I have seen axe throwing but never done it before and man it is fun. The best part of they axe target is it can be made in a day and if you have some of the materials already it doesn't even cost that much. I will tell you one think this is a beast and it isn't going anywhere which is what you want. Maybe now we need to make a axe????????

Pro tip!! Use a bug sprayer with water to wet the wood so it expands and takes the axes better!! Also lengthens the life of the boards

Thanks for your tip, I was wondering if you can run the grain horizontal to stop splitting and extend life if target

@@pineapplesideways3820 The wood grain should be oriented vertically, unless you're throwing sidearm (sideways). To increase the penetration & lessen the chance of deflection the wood grain needs to run parallel with the axe bit (cutting edge). If the bits not parallel with the grain direction it's going to chop the wood (like felling a tree) vs splitting & slicing into fibers (like splitting firewood). Both spraying the wood with water & hitting in the middle of the boards, as well as using greener lumber will help with the wood fibers healing. Use 2x10 lumber, so you can flip it and use the backside... Good luck!

If you're buying construction lumber, it'll be pre-dried out and this won't be as much of an issue.

You could also just use treated pine instead of wetting the wood.

This is a great project for outdoors and social distancing. Great idea. And axes. Who doesn’t like throwing axes. Fast. I like that template idea. Perfect 👌🏼

When building your target remember to think long term. When you become effective at throwing axes, you're going to damage the wood very quickly, which will require replacement. Especially the center areas where you'll be doing most of your aiming. Design your target so you can replace individual pieces of wood very easily.

You can a little pock glue to your scare to block the holes... if you screw it in the center... you it as a axle and rotate 45 degree to paint the missing lines

I have to change the center board ever other session on mine when my wife and I play on ours so we used a double board build method now

Couldn't you make the frame and with the plywood on back and add the boards while it is standing since theoretically you should be able to replace all the boards once they become to worn out?

Although it wouldn't be as clean and tight most likely you remember how he pushed them all together and then kind of made the frame around it cuz that wood varies in size when you buy it.

Well it depends on how much you play the guy that I made it for used it a lot and if they play while tailgating all weekend he changes the middle board each weekend for sure

You could use scaffolding boards as I did, they're made of soft whitewood and they 2 inch thick so last ages

lol, ya depending on when you first saw this video. Building a target today is about half the price that it would have been a year ago and even less than the year prior to that. Thankfully prices are normalizing again.
