My basement gym is similar to yours. Instead of a squat buddy I use a chain bolted to a joist and connect and connect the chain with an extra caribiner to not have to start from the lowest position. Thanks for helping me turn my extra Titan pulley system in to a very functional belt squat machine!

Awesome video! I'm starting my journey towards building a home gym and will use your belt squat as inspo. I envision having the pulley attached to the power rack so I can do belt/barbell squats to really get the legs burning. Plus it can be used for weighted pull ups and dips. Keep up the good work!

Love this! I just made a version out of steel and it performs pretty well. I need to make the belt squat buddy next as the range of motion is somewhat limited without it (which I believe you do say in the video).

That’s awesome. I’d love to see your steel version. The best squat buddy helps with starting from the standing position, not so much with range of motion but it’s a pretty simple build and definitely worth a shot.

That's awesome! I was thinking, maybe there's a way to put the belt squat buddy on hinges, so it tips forward or a 1 sided version that tips to the side. But that's a clever squat platform!

Thanks man, I really like using it. I’ve only done a few lag days with it but I can already tell it is going to be a very effective accessory exercise. The belt squat buddy serves it’s purpose but I agree that it can and should be improved. I’ll keep using it and see what modifications I can make.

Great ideas. Clever & frugal. Suggest u research rivet nuts / inserts. Quick & cheap method for temporary ( or permanent) attachments to tube metal used in weight machines. Good & easy option for mods.

Love this idea, and I think I've cracked the weight capacity problem. Instead of permanently connecting one side of the tower to your blue pulley, raise the tower's pulleys higher, then connect a single cable to both d rings on the tower. Run the connecting cable through the blue pulley and bam, as long as you've made your connector long enough, you won't hit the pulley with the d rings and you also double your weight capacity! Thanks so much for continuing to make these amazing videos!

You could double it again by connecting a pulley block to your belt, looping the cable around it, and connecting the end to a stable fixed location, like an eye hook. You're essentially inverting the pulley ratio. You exert double force and move the load twice as far.

@@Eighty55 Well, a bit of both i guess ;) I know about pulley configurations with a 2:1 ratio (i.e. a ten pound plate produces 5 pounds of resistance), but I never heard about pulley configurations with a 1:2 ratio (i.e. a five pound plate produces 10 pounds of resistance). Is this what you are implying or did I misunderstand? And how would you go about setting this up?

@Kaizen DIY Gym Had to put building the platform on hold for a week due to probably the last nice weekend for golf this year. Finally, I got everything put together, and it works awesome. I built my spotter stand rectangular, so I got some hinges to throw on so I can just flip it up and down.

To double the possible resistance you can use, I think you can use a 2:1 pulley on yourself. Anchor the pulley cable to the platform and put a pulley on the cable between the platform anchor and the first pulley the cable comes through on. attach your belt squat to pulley.

Nice I was about to buy the rhino belt squat but I have one of this towers in tje corner of my garage gym so I will defwntly do this. I have two lower back buldging disk so this with my rep hex bar wil help:)

Awesome! I’m glad this video is useful to you. After using this for a few months I have two modifications to recommend. I’d make the platform wider and set the pulley more towards the center of the platform. Otherwise perfect. Also, using both cables makes the ratio 1:1

@@futbol1972 my recommendation would be measure the width of your feet while doing your preferred squat and go with that. Mine could use an inch or two on each side. Yes, you want the pulley to be directly below you. Mine is a bit too far forward.

I'm hoping to soon buy myself a single cable tower from a brand here in the UK but that is very similar in design to the Titan one. I would like to make myself a belt squat platform like yours but I was wondering if you (or anyone with any thoughts really) felt that the load capabilities of the tower would be sufficient for most regular gym goers? I'm also going to look to play with some jammer arm variations of the belt squat so was wondering how you find the DIY lever versions compare with the DIY cable versions considering maximum loads, ease of use etc? Note that I'm specifically asking about the DIY versions and their limitations/strengths as a Rogue Rhino and a Wenning belt squat are way over my budget! 🤣

By connecting the cables together with a carabiner and then running a single cable from that carabiner to my belt, it becomes 1:1. It is a pretty great trick and I'll probably end up doing a follow up video.

What was the reason for using the pulley housing and the pulley versus just the pulley centered up on the 2x4 underneath? It seems like it would act like less of a toe stubber when recessed within. Cheers!

Using the housing gives it more flexibility in movement. I’ve done it both ways and prefer this option better.

Belt squats with selectorized machines is difficult because you need to get the full weight stack up before starting. With plate loaded, and can load the weight up after getting it into position.

Hey, I have a suggestion, could you make some hooks to hang the dumbbells over a bar? I've looked in many shops and it's out of stock, when lifting heavy dumbbells in the presses it's very hard to lift them, and many times I've hurt myself. Thank you. Your videos have helped me a lot.

If you found a way to use both those pulleys youd have a 1:1 ratio and swapping to metal pulleys would just increase the weight capacity to over 400lbs

Yeah, right after I published this video I learned that using both cables at the same time give it 1:1. I recently swapped out all of the pulley wheels to aluminum and plan on doing a follow up video.

Pretty cool, however the 175lb max is a problem for a good number of people. You said upgrading the pulleys would be another $200. Is that the best option or is there another tower that would be a better option given the limitations on this one?

How many handles does the pulley have? If it has two, have you tried carabining both together onto a single carabiner, then feeding that carabiner through your belt squat system?

It has two handles. That’s definitely possible but it wouldn’t increase the 2:1 weight ratio. The moving pulley attached to the weight horns is what changes the ratio from 1:1 to 2:1

@@KaizenDIYGym If my understanding is correct, if you pull on one handle, versus two, the single handle should allow you twice the distance that combining both should allow. If that's the case, the effort required should be doubled with two handles.

I have to come revise my answer. A commenter mentioned that I could increase the ratio from 2:1 to 1:1 by using both pulley cables at the same time. I tested it out today and it is true! By connecting the cables together with a carabiner and then running a single cable from that carabiner to my belt, it becomes 1:1. I haven't done a leg day since having this revelation, but I should be able to belt squat up to 350 pounds.
