I would have maybe tried to space the slats so that 3 of them are glued 3/4 of the width, and the other 1/4 overhangs to cover the gaps. It would create a more seamless, clean look.

Good idea. Looks like CA glue and accelerator spray would work instead of pin nails and wood glue too. Love the color choice. I wonder what the name of that color is???
