I did this for my cats and decorated the entire thing with colored cardstock! It looks really great and my cat that hates scratching my sisal post has really taken to it and is leaving the legs of my coffee table alone now. Thank you!
Thanks so much! My boyfriend just got a two month old kitten two weeks ago...she's been sharpening her claws with the grip tape on his skateboard without us knowing until she came to play with us the other day and scratched up his arm...talk about sharp!

ooh thanks someone got my cats one for Christmas and I was hoping someone would show me how to build a new less complicated but just as effective one....They love these things!
All of my cats prefer different scratching surfaces. Cardboard kitty is getting expensive though. Those circle refills are $8 for 2 and he rips through one in about a week or so. The other cat likes sisal, which I buy at home depot for $12 and redo the scratching posts and tree about once every year or two and it costs me very little. The other kitty likes wood, so he scratches a board I set up behind some furniture. The last cat loves carpet so i installed carpet squares on the inside of my desk so they're discreet. Plus they're free. I ask around for spare carpet from people redoi ng their floors and carpet stores give out large samples. It's sad how people declaw cats without testing some mediums first to see what cats might prefer.
My cat preffers wood, my husband has put wooden boards in our home, one in the bedroom and one in the livingroom. My cat claws the heck out of em and loves it. >^..^
Both of my cats like to try to claw the cardboard boxes so this is a totally perfect thing for them I'm going to make a couple of them paint the side of the boxes with non-toxic paint and they're going to think that they have the greatest Cat mama ever. I'm not going to take use a shoebox lid I'm going to use a regular box that's shallow
