UPDATE VIDEO! I took this hammock to the next level with some improvements to make it sturdier and nicer to look at. Watch here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YqbN9JzFCx8.html
DUDE! GET A PVC PIPE CUTTER!!!!! ITS MUCH CLEANER & STRAIGHT CUT IN ONE EASY SQUEEZE! GLUE SOME PARTS OF IT AND IT WILL HELP KEEP IT STURDY, JUST LEAVE ONE END UNGLUED TO ACCESS THE PILLOW CASE. AND IF YOU PUT CAPS ON THE FEET YOU GIVE IT A MORE FINISHED LOOK AND PROTECT THE FLOOR. AND I'M NOT YELLING...I'M JUST BLIND! :)
I made an update video where I do glue it together to make it more sturdy, and I put caps on the feet! Haha! I still don't have a pvc pipe cutter... maybe come Christmas. My electric saw works pretty well too! :)
I have an old toddler hoop and b-ball set - that my little one won’t play with- that would be PERFECT for this project. You were so great with your your cats as they were trying to help. Thank you so much for the video!
i have a sewing machine i always had a problem with the wood or iron thing people are using for their hammock i had never think about the pvc thank you this is a brilliant idea o am making my 4 cats four hammocks soon 👍 gou are a genius
Nice little hammock hack. I have a suggestion for how to keep it square without adding extra hardware. Glue just the short pipe to the elbows and Ts, leaving the long pieces loose. The glue will keep the T's from twisting while still allowing you to take it apart to wash the pillow case.
Great idea! Thank you for making this DIY! A note on the pillow case - turn the pillow case inside out then either rip the seam or snip off the sewn end. Then cut into the case three inches in in one inch increments across the short end of the case. Slip it on and tie each snipped end together to the desired tightness. This will element the sagging.
anybody building one of these i HIGHLY recommend getting a pair of hand held pvc cutters its so much easier than a saw and doesnt make a bunch of plastic strands and dust
Got a Dremel lol...the next level can wait until I make the original. ..However I will look at it first just in case it's more up my cats street. ..btw I thought the ginger cat in the background was him....omg there can only be one. ..surely!
great video! Gave me a great idea for my cats, do u have any idea of a way i can weigh down the edges of the hammock so that when the cats jump it doesn't move? I have cardboard and I was thinking of making a platform on the bottom so that they would have a cool little room underneath.
Cool idea! I'm planning on making a follow on video to this soon actually, but didnt think about weighing it down at all. Rubber feet might help it from sliding around. As far as weighing it down, hmmm - you might be able to fill the PVC with something like sand to give it some extra weight. Or maybe you can brace part of it against the wall or a doorway? Hmm, I'll have to think about that some more. Let me know if you think of anything too/ how it works out! :)
Can we get a complete materials list please I think I caught 2 1/2 inch bars PVC pipe 5 ft long 4 T connectors 4 90 ° elbows Fabric and a saw. But I am not sure. Can you confirm please
Dude, the "take out" on a 90 degree fitting is 1.5x the diameter of the pipe. So if you're using .5" pipe, then .5x1.5=.75 so you need to removed 3/4 of an inch on either end of the fitting to accommodate two fittings. So if your total length is 25" then you want to cut the pipe to 23.5" and the length will accommodate the end pieces perfectly. Pipefitting 101.
Great idea, great video, nice job on all counts except safety. I hope your viewers don't use their own leg as a workbench as you did when you cut the pvc pipe with both a hand saw and a power tool. Dude, smarten up if you want to continue doing this. You've done a great job otherwise, but using your leg as a resting place for something you're using a power tool to cut is an accident waiting to happen.
Thanks! I was trying to think how I could avoid for a while. Several designs I saw online involved like, putting metal rivets into things and tying with string and all sorts of crazyness. I tried to go simple :)
I just made the exact same hammock for my cat. She loves it. The clear instructions make it really easy to build. Doesn't require a lot of effort neither does it cost a lot of money. Amazing job.
Awesome hammock. I just discovered your channel yesterday and have been "catching up" on your great videos. This is going to sound weird, but, after listening to you speak I thought to myself, he kind of sounds like a Virginian like me? I don't know if it's the accent or what but, then you stood up and I spotted your JMU pants! I live less than an hour from JMU. I have three cats too and have been making some of your DIY toys for them, so thanks!
How fun! Yep I've lived in Virginia all my life :) And I loved the whole shenandoah valley area, it's so awesome. Except the wind during the winter.... :) How fun! I hope the toys turned out! This hammock is still my favorite thing I've made
Great idea , i'm gonna try this . Damn , I have 17 cats, that's gonna take a lot of PVC . I think i'm just gonna buy a king size mattress , it'll be cheaper .
Wolve Pup look up pictures of nebelungs. They were voted as the floofiest cat in the world this year. White ones are found mainly in groups. Black ones love to cuddle, and silver ones are lazy. ;-;
Lol...my older cat looks like your ginger one...I hope for your sake that your cat isn't as naughty as mine....he's the Alpha character in the family (or at least that is the way he sees it lol). Both my cats have access to a huge roof which (sometimes, when they haven't destroyed them, there's plants and different levels where they stalk birds etc). Yeah he thinks, when he sees me in the garden that I have fallen off the roof and he runs inside to get my husband ...miaowing at the top of his voice. It's hilarious really but he must really love me or he wouldn't go to 'get help'...despite the fact that we fight all day as he's really stubborn and eats all the baby (2 1/2 year old) cat's food and has actually knocked her off the roof lots of times ...luckily she's quite athletic lol!
I was looking for cat beds and found your video. Great idea! I will save $45.00. By making these instead. Brothers a contractor so all I need is joints and pillowcases. Liked and subscribed ♡
Thank you very much. I've seen other things about how to make things with PVC but love how you told us about the cutting process and the price, and even included the cats helping you. Also if a person doesn't have power tools, often they can borrow them from their local library...at least in my area we can.
Also you can get from Lowes a PVC pipe cutter like this: www.lowes.com/pd/BrassCraft-1-1-4-in-PVC-Cutter/999903141 which, if you do a lot of cutting of PVC pipe (I do) is the handiest thing around and soooo much better than a hack saw.
Really cool. I dunno if I can do the man stuff any tools or picking out pipes at Home Depot yikes I use to do everything from mowing gardening repairs put up all blinds and pics in each house.... I think aging has caused some level of retardation on manly subjects like engineering math physics ... I do all kinds of crafting and when I come across the words ..power tools or measuring... my mind goes 💥
PVC Pipe supplies have all the connectors you need to make all sorts of PVC pipe furniture. pvcpipesupplies.com/1-white-3-way-furniture-grade-pvc-fitting.html
To keep my pillow case from sagging, I used 2 pillow cases, one inside the other. My cat LOVES this hammock. Thank goodness the pillow cases come off easily to wash.
Having made all sorts of weird "furniture" and related stuff out of PVC pipe, I would strongly suggest that instead of just 4 "legs" that you duplicate the top of the frame and attach the legs to that duplicate to form the bottom of the frame. It will be much stronger and less like to fall apart. BTW, love the idea of using a pillowcase!
I want to thank you for your videos, I love them. I happened to come across them while actually looking for something esle and got sucked into all the great cat videos instead. :) I recently moved from a three story house to a five room apt and although I was working on all the move in stuff, still I would notice that my cats (Blex and Charm, two brothers) seemed to be sad or bored. There were not really any toys to bring along as most of them were destroyed at the previous house by the small grand-children. So, as I watched your videos I decided that I needed to stop doing what I was doing and concentrate on them. I purchased a few toys, made a few DIY toys and then I took your lead and purchased them a cat tree. I am so excited for it to arrive. Just the few new small additions have made a big difference in them. I also, remembered what you said about the "box paper", so when my pkg arrived, with their most recent toy; I left it on my kitchen floor (the only large vinyl surface) and it was not long before they took to that too! Thx! Keep making those great videos and inspiring pet lovers to do more DIYs; they are fun for the pets and parents/owners too!! Blessings!
Oh now this is a great idea for my older cat...he's kinda picky about where he sleeps and is a bit temperamental and can bite if you turn over during the night. ..he would love one of these especially if I make it a bit higher because you know what they're like about the pecking order and who is the 'top cat' lol!
Haha I keep on thinking I might make a multi-tier one, but i haven't gotten around to it. I would need to make it high enough that the butt of one cat wouldnt be sagging down on the other one
If you put taller legs on it then put the hammock in front of a window, the cats might like it more. Also, fold up an old towel and put it inside the pillowcase in winter for a bit of warm insulation. 👍
I love your humor! Lol: "Sorry about that noise, the cats are playing with toys. Its not me." "Maybe if you have a heavy cat liek a baby puma or something..."
Good video, Luna looks and acts like my Nala but with a tail lol, Nala was born without her tail, she was a rescue and she's a blast to be around, but I was going to say is they have pvc cutters/snips which are really inexpensive and will cut the pipe in seconds, they're usually found around with the piping
Hello. I'm new to your channel. Dude, that was awesome! I look forward to your next video. I haven't checked out your others, but have you made a condo or something like that? Val
I love this I'm going to get some pipe on Monday. .I'll watch your upgrade vid first but it's exactly what I need for my older cat because I got a new kitchen and bathroom last month and he used to like sleeping in one of the kitchen cupboards but can't anymore but I am sure he'll love this. .in fact I can put one in the bedroom and one in the living room and that should keep everyone happy. I think its great for the cabin in Scotland too because it is above any drafts. Thanks again xx
