My kitties love their cat scratchers and their little cat trees! But because they love them so much, they get rough and torn up pretty quick! But do you need to throw out your entire cat scratcher when just the top is frayed? No way! Get yourself a glue gun, some sisal rope, and maybe a staple gun, and you are good to go!

Soak the rope in vinegar and baking soda for one hour to remove and neutralize formaldehyde. Rinse and repeat. Natural ropes usually have it to mitigate insect damage. It's not good. Most pet store varieties come with a stamp to show it has the acceptable amount of formaldehyde. It's kind of a thing.

I have the same exact type of scratching post as you worked on in the beginning of your video. My cat too destroyed the top part of the post, and I was about to order another post...until I saw this video. You just motivated me to repair it, not replace it.

@@CatsandPats It went extremely well. I had the glue and some rope, so all it cost me was a little time and the cat's frustration waiting for the repair to be completed.

This reminds me of our giant cat tower. We used rope to wrap around it and then made several towers of scratchers for our four kitties! The cat tree is like 11 & 6 inches so it took a while to complete! But the cats love it so all the work was worth It😸

Great job! I don’t use glue anymore for my repairs. It just made it to hard for me to repair again, the glued rope takes way to long to remove so I just use the staple gun and it works great.

You can remove the black top from the post, there can be hidden plastic cap with nut in middle, this way you can turn it back and have both ends scratched by cat. To fix the top drill the hole in the middle of the cap and use the screw to fix it to the post.

You forgot to use catnip to get the user demonstration going. 😉 BTW, a tack puller also is pretty easy to use for pulling staples. The bend in the shaft really helps, like a carpentry hammer's claw, but WAY smaller.

I switched to 1/2" and wound the twine really tight before wrapping - it's harder to get into. Next time I'm using poly braid - it's even tougher. Sea grass sure doesn't last long (that's what my original post had)

You can purchase sisal rope pretty cheaply from eBay etc. And you can use carpet samples/ off cuts for some parts of the cat tree, I need to fix ours soon!

We just adopted 3 kitten siblings, two grey tabby and a black/brown long haired cat we named Luna (long hair discovered figured out Luna is actually a boy and changed it to Luno...First search I did (not by the cat's name) I found your video; if thats your long haired cat's name I'm creeped out!
