I am showing you how to make the perfect DIY fishing rig to attract more fish made out of recycled materials from your house. This rig is super simple, quick, and fun to make! The smell from this chum rig leaks out to let fish know there is a tasty snack on your hook.
It’s winter here in Maryland which means there isn’t a ton of fishing going on. I use this time to tie up my own rigs to take fishing when I travel or to have on hand when the weather changes. Tying creative rigs is one of my new favorite hobbies. Save money and have a good time!

These are some of the greatest beginner type videos. I don’t mean you’re a beginner or your videos are beginner. They’re super high-quality well done great pacing. They really make a beginner feel like they can achieve your success. Super easy to follow, and all your techniques don’t require $1000 trip to bass pro shop. Except for maybe your penchant for really expensive reels🤣

Went fishing 3 days in a row with my kids, and each day with more success then the last.. by soaking up alot of knowledge from you its crazy went from nothing one day, to bait fish the next, then a rock fish on the last day, just by improving my rigs and tying the right knots! Its been epic! 🎉 haven’t caught no monsters yet or big fishes like you but just growing as a dad and a skipper, learning patience and having fun!! I'm so thankful that I found your channel. My wife and I live in Spring Hill and she loved going fishing with me for the first time after your videos got me interested in fishing again. I'm getting back into shoreline fishing. This seems viable as a chum rig with baited hook. The float rig mentioned sounds interesting...just let it drift. Additionally some have pointed out using this as a "spot" chum set up to attract feeders / predators and then jig in the vicinity. This "spot chum" could also be used close to shore to attract live bait that you'd catch with a bamboo pole or like for live bait casting. Will keep you posted on efforts. This looks pretty cool, for fishing rips/tidal rivers for fluke, etc.where crabs also like to congregate and rip off cut bait or whatever. Could serve as a decoy for them as well as a mini chum pot for fluke.

This actually works better if you still mixed size holes, and use a snap swivel on top only instead of the line running through it, that’s a good way to Frey and damage the line leading to the sinker.

I've been using a version of this and it seems to help. I'm going to add the beads to my set-up. One thing I've learned is to not pack the chum in tight because you want some water movement in and out of the container to get the scent out. Thanks for the beads tip!

You could put it above your hook/weights so you can retrieve the plastic on a break off; maybe 4-6” above the hook? Chum usually flows down anyway so it would bring them straight to your hook

I made this rig and I changed it a bit. Instead of rigging to a fishing pole I just stringed it up and threw it from the shore. The rig remain at the bottom and we just fished around area we baited. We caught them like crazy. A few were small in size but a majority of the catch was big fish. I can't share my bait options but others can fix up their own.

should use it on your float rig: add the cage below the float instead of the bottom to allow the scent to go down with the bait

My family and I live in Sacramento and fish our river and the ocean, which isn’t too far. We came across your channel and love the content. my boys are learning more and more about fishing and are enjoying. We always experiment with different rigs and tried the chum rig you demonstrated. Of all three rigs set up, the one with chum caught the first fish.

also the beads make a clicking sound that imitates the sound a prawn does that attracts fish great rig Have you ever made large ones out of PVC pipe using aerosol lids as cups top and bottom with two hooks or even three above for rock fishing acts as a bait bomb attacks huge fish but i use 80lb pandora braid caught trevally king fish snapper but for big rods big casts is heavy but trust me great even for beach fishing

Or use a soldering tool , melts through that like butter. Oh there are the wood burning tool too that will give you some fancy design Wouldn’t that be something if a BIG fish come by and inhale the whole bottle 😂

Feeeder rigs are why I catch big carp. If you put a peg float on longer dropper loop, catfish. Basically santee copper rig

Nice ideaI used to take sardines and hook them in the tail drop it down to the bottom and yank them off and then put my bait down but the bottle is a very cool idea I may try that thanks for the idea 👍

I have used this rig for years only in reverse, With the bottle on top filled with Maggots and the hook with a minnow on the bottom for Perch.

I have been interested in making a rig like this it is similar to what they use in the U.K. know as feeder rigs, my only drawback I was thinking is when you cast it out you get the propeller action that reduces the distance . I purchased some Pennel Rig parts to make a splash down rig which keeps all the components compact when casting and when it hits the surf it releases giving you more distance and it also positions the sinker at the top when reeling in to prevent snags

I made one with a prescription bottle just like that a few years back for catfishing. It was on the upper part of the rig though. (Texas rig style) How us fishermen think alike. Always trying to be innovative. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Great video!

made holes in 4 of these in the time it took to drill your one bottle. I used a red hot needle that punched through like butter. Look forward to trying them out. Made a LARGE bottle one to tie off the side of a skiff. Either will work I am sure.

I am definitely building this rig. Only much larger for my shark set up. Putting some Super Shark Chum inside with a bunch of Fish Oil and baiting with a 4 inch chunk of ladyfish or branzino.

Hey skipper! Glad to be able to watch your videos while I'm recovering. Sadly me and my brother got into a car accident but we're both out of the hospital so I'm happy. We still live on cape cod and I can't wait to get a big striper at the canal this summer. Feels like just yesterday when I got to meet u on Captian Johan boats. My son-in-law says to try a spice bottle like McCormick after you finish using it. He uses a 3 swivel wire leader from the store. Putting it on the bottom leader with the bottle upsidedown. It's easier to get it through the bottle and then put the top on

Similar to a drop shot, the hook bend should be facing up and not down. A downward hook will miss more bites.

@@mikem8661 while i'm not a big fan of the government and polies in general it isn't all that bad, isnt' the weed industry a big one in america? which means if its taxed more money for states/country as a whole and more jobs cause you'd need farmers/processing/distrubution ect, but that's prob's in my perfect way of thinking about it :P so it may not even work like that and not being american i haven't looked into it that much, still waiting for it to be legalised here in aus.

I always leave a little bit of mono/floro tag and melt/shape a nub at the end so it's even more difficult to pull through the knot
