+ricardo casal See, now in your status that's unfortunate. Here in the states I find them pretty often. I have about 3 extra sets in my garage because of all the EF's I own.
Garage Built Hondas i have a ed7 (EF si) of my own, i have literally 1 year looking in junkyards here, for the taillight and headlights and still no luck, wish i was in the states....
Really cool Jon! I like the extra steps you took to make sure the tube going through the headlight fit tight against the hole you cut and then the metal bracket. Makes me want to do this with the EG! ...Can't say I have any cooling issues at the moment since I don't even have an engine in the bay right now! lol Great work man -Robbie
No it’s not street legal but in certain states you might get by with it as long as you have both low beams I believe this is the hi beam he drilled out. Texas you won’t pass inspection I’m sure
Glass headlights = the good old days when stuff was actually made/Built well! Love the headlight mod! Nice fab work! Of my many crx’s owned had a jdm B16 swapped y49 si. Anyway had nothing but bad luck with that car whole time of ownership. Truly believe it was the dreaded Y49 color. Lol kinda like a yellow lighter cursed/unlucky.
That came out sweet Jon...I've been looking for a good video for the same idea but for Eg chassis this is a good visual aid for when I decide to go thru with it. and that plate is badass man!!
+Ronnie Gonzales It'll be perfect for an EG too! Right dude, what an awesome gift! It's an official plate too, he had it on his car when he lived in California!
Mines the same ive got an Aussie Holden Commodore & with the Barlina models u hav 2 remove the front bumper but it doesnt state it in the manuel cause all other models u dont hav2 most frusstraiting ! Thnks for the clip.
That's a really neat idea! Would be nice to make some sort of round bezel for the outside. Maybe modify a subwoofer air port bezel? A heck it's a track car but still. Good work!
just a thought; you could probably put a rubber grommet or some sort of rubber lip around the glass hole. it would clean it up really nicely and make a factory-esque look.
I did a similar mod, I drilled a hole through the space where a fog light would be installed in teh bumper and then another hole into the air intake resonator box behind it. The air then flowed through my bumper, into the box and out the box right directly onto the air filter.
Love this mod! And it looks so kool! Form & function shall i dare say! Nice job John as always!👍✌☝this also would be a kool mod for a daily even will need some sort of grille on the hole ,maybe like the mesh u put on the radiator to keep lil rocks out! I really love this do it yourself type of shit! ✌
Where do you go for your decals? I want to make some custom decals myself but have been hesitant because I know many of them have terrible quality decals that don't stay on for very long.
+MISTA 808 which ones, my GBH decals? I have a guy in town that does decals and screen printing for shirts. They are nice, haven't had any problems yet!
Awesome video brotha that's something I've been wanting to do with my eg instead of buying a carbon fiber from password jdm good job. Hopefully to see it around Ept to give it a thumbs up👍🤙
Yo FUCK that previous comment bro. Just hatters.. I think it's awsome that you looked outside the box. It was a quick test that was dope. Spend more time on that . Maybe a rubber seal on the front and j.b. weld. On the back. But if you do ill send you my head light. Keep it up man!!! Good work...
Dang that is cool I want one too....lol just curious tho how much more performance gain is this because now your getting direct fresh air the faster you go its almost like a cold air forced induction without turbo or supercharger
I'm having a hard time finding screen like you used. I looked at Lowes and Home Depot and couldn't find it. Do you have any other info about it like who makes it?
You should build an airbox for your air filter which will protect it from the heat from your engine bay and you could put a hole into your air duct which would create a semi ram air effect for your track car. You might also figure out some sort of a trumpet horn for the intake on your headlight which would help to tone down the turbulence from the hole. Just some ideas. :)
Sorry, I meant a hole in the airbox connected to your air duct which would put the air into the box and create a ram air effect. You can build an airbox by cutting up a Rubbermaid trash can. You can semi seal it to the hood with foam insulation tubing. I have one in my b18 swapped Civic. I don't have the air duct that you just built but the box alone keeps the filter cool even in the summer when it is a 100 degrees outside.
I have a quick question for you. If I want to do a b series non vrec swap on a crx non si.for the wiring do I just follow the steps for the si wiring? Or is it a complete set up? And can I just use the wiring from an integra with ecu?
I HOPE YOU GUYS READ THIS..... So I did ram air on my mom's 2012 Honda Civic EXL that only has the r18 sohc VTEC And my k20,and j series I did the K&n intake with a heat shield REMOVED THE STOCK AIR DUCT Added a custom bendable tube that goes down to the front bumper where the fog light used to sit That alone dropped her short ram intake temps with just a heat shield were 140° down to 80 to 90° with the air duct THEN AFTER THAT.... We also wrapped the intake tube itself in the gold reflective heat tape That dropped your intake temps down to 70° So with the custom air duct to the front bumper the heat shield and wrapping the intake tube in the gold reflective heat tape it dropped her intake Air temps DRAMATICALLY.....AND...... Her VTEC... Crossover is now extremely loud and you can actually hear it and feel it which is amazing for a sohc when you hear it it sounds like a dohc VTEC But even on hot summer days now her card is not getting heat soaked enter car pulls so so so so so so so so so so so so much better I have you been done this now in my 95 Civic Coupe that's my built track car and on my 04 Honda Accord V6 6-speed manual Coupe And my 2004 Mitsubishi lancer Ralliart It's the Best of both worlds you get the benefit of a true long cold air intake without the fear of sucking up water!!!!
Use a drinking glass with the bottom removed and glass epoxy to hold it in. Then it looks crystal clear and you wont see the tube. You could even tuck a light on that side.
Most of these circle bits have a standard drill bit in the center, use a pilot hole with one of those and you'd never have those scratches. Think I might do this with my trashed old lights :)
I couldn't find any diamond bit ones with the pilot point when I purchased mine. I don't mind the scratches, it's been on a track car since I've cut it open.
Another cool functional DIY video, thanks Jon! Regarding the pinned comment about the rarity of EFs in various places, out here in the rust belt of Ohio there are very few EFs in our junkyards because a lot of them rusted into nothing years ago. Sedans are fairly common though. A lot of guys begin builds by traveling south or west in search of a clean shell. Also have you ever thought about doing a video about the interchangeability of parts between the different EF chassis?
+Zach Weisend I've read/heard about that a lot, and it's sad but luckily there are still quite a few survivors. I see a handful still in the SW down here, but the cleaner ones are getting a little more rare. Do you think the video would be helpful to a lot of people?
Yeah I think it would be a interesting and helpful video, even if it was just a short little vlog style video walking around the car talking about what parts are interchangeable, you have a wealth of knowledge on these cars.
That would be very cool. I am currently working on a swapping a b18b into a 91 std hatch, I already have the half shaft, t bracket, mounts, and a y1 lsd trans, still many more things I need to pick up before I pull the d15 out.
like shredding coconut that dust from the glass, I'm thinking doing one of those but..... I'm doing too a set of euro lights style ( yellow on the inside of high bean ) and on the back (cuz is a 91 sedan) use one of the reverse light as day light or something like that i don't know how they called.
Man, I wish you would have done this sooner, Jon - I have a track day Sunday (last one of the season) and would love to get this little mod done to the Rex! Great job fabbing it all up, dude!! Thoughts on drilling the low beam side and switching the low beam wiring to the high beam side of the headlight?
+Tommy Kim me too, but mines tomorrow! I just finished it Wednesday!! Sorry, lol! I wanted the headlights to function like normal. You could definitely swap it and just convert the plug, but I wanted the oem look of the headlights in the evening. I never use my brights anyway.
Damm such a great video but i just want to know if that u did its connected to the air filter, air duct or some like that??looks nice tho i want to try it with my em2
Thanks! It's not directly connected but possibly could be. I just wanted the intake to benefit with a little extra cooler dense air to help with heat soak since it's really hot where I live and track my car.
@@GarageBuiltHondas ok, thats good to know. I thought about a screen then to the air pod.the foam should stop the water. My filter exits under the front bumper and was told i would suck water. Im still looking for my trail with the hondas lol...
A filter down under has more chance because if you hit some heavy water the wheels throw a lot of water onto the filter, or if you run into deep water it can suck up the water quickly.
I cringed a little at the thought of drilling a hole on my wagon headlight lol. It'll definitely give your intake cooler air for better performance. Just watch out for those rainy days
Aye jon ive been trying to find a video of step by step on how to have the engine harness in the cabin and where everything goes and also how to install a heater assembly in a 1991 honda civic ef hatch please make one your videos help the best!!!
+Musik Gee Sorry, would love to help but don't have any cars which I'm performing that work on. If a situation arises that allows me to work on these projects, I'll definitely make a video.
This is stupid but cool at the same time. When first contact? Pull the trigger 1inch away from the headlamp. Full blast while slowly get close to the lamp very slow so you don’t scratch like crazy.
+harley Rider My stickers were due in June. I'm going to take it and ask, if not I'm going to swap in a stock headlight real quick. I'll try to remember to report back here!
I think you're better off putting it on the left hand side of a headlamp as opposed to the right where you put it I mean at the track car anyway so what's the difference really right and you would've had a better shot going straight through the air box or air intake and switched your led light to the right , you know.. oh well
Main reason is for driving it on the street back and forth to the track, and also when I just want to take it to go cruise with friends. I didn't want it to be a reason I get pulled over. It doesn't look normal when the high beam is on. I just preferred this look better also.
