From other tutorials I've seen, you should be able to get that exposed look just by using various grinding bits in an angle grinder. Lowe's and Home Depot's also sell a shop vac attachment to the grinder that works very well capturing the vast majority of the dust.

Hi Gabe, I'm not trying to be rude so please don't take offence. If you'd like to keep growing out your beard I recommend picking up some minoxidil 5% from Kirkland. It will help fill out the beard and get rid of your bald patches, I know, because it worked for me.
