I've done this many times. Your the only person I've seen do this. I fire up my tig welder tig 5/16 bolts onto the bearing and use a regular puller you can get at autozone to pull it. Works everytime. Only thing u need is a welder witch many don't have.
if it is OK to destroy those gears as well as the bearing by welding, then this will definitely work. The heat from the welding alone already loosen them a bit making removal easy.
